- I co-founded a Cure tribute band about 15+ years ago called Fascination Street, based out of Seattle, WA. We loved playing The Cure's music and stayed together for about 8 years. I then moved on to my current band, Nite Wave (new wave 80's cover). I haven't played these Cure songs since then, but I want to share the patches and sounds I used as the keyboardist of the band (I'm mainly a bass player, but love keys too), and I thought it would be fun to play along with the Disintegration album since we did every song on it.
I'll do one video per track. At the end of each song I'll play a snippet of the song with my patches only, so you can hear what they sounded like live on their own. I use a Korg Triton, and amazingly my old floppy still has all the sound mapping (Sequences, in Triton-speak).
All credit to Robert Smith and the members of The Cure for crafting such an amazing song and album for the world, thank you guys!

I will be playing this in a band. Thank you!

Thank you!
AWESOME COVER
Brilliant! Loved this, thank you!
Well this made learning this song super easy. Thanks for the video!
Very nice work. Thank you and appreciate the breakdown on the song.
I'm playing in a band and for the organ intro I play "A DED EDED" But I play the String interlude I play the exact same thing. But this is still amazing. On my other channel, I also do keyboard covers.
That was beautiful mate!! AWESOME JOB 🙌🙌🙌
Thank you, much appreciated!
Very nice!! I love it
I love this song!
This is great, i'm glad YT recommended it to me

Thanks!
Great cover!
Thank you!
Great tutorial
👏
Big thanks 2u2
I will try to make an arrange with E guitar, mixing some of the guitar parts with the keyboard part played in the guitar cuz no keyb on the band (yet), wil play it in a bar at Cali - Colombia like in a month. Hop I can make a video 4u.
Wow this is amazing!! I did this cover on my channel as well! It was my favorite
Just checked your cover out, it sounds great! You have an amazingly beautiful and haunting voice, it really fits the song
Amazing cover. I love The Cure. In my channel, I play bass covers, but I love keyboards. I sub your channel 😀😀
Excellent!
Este tema es mundial
The keys during the chorus is possibly my favourite part of the song. Any idea what he’s playing in terms of theory/why it sounds as good as it does?
No idea, I wish I knew -- if I did I probably would have succeeded years ago in my original bands :-).
Do you know what keyboard was used by The Cure when they recorded Love Song? Synth or organ? Thanks for this video! I enjoyed it. 👍
Thank you! I'm sorry, but I have no idea what they used.
Any chances of you giving up these patches? I would love to have them. They sound spot on
Thank you for the kind words :-). Do you have a Triton?
@@galtem Sorry for the late reply didn't even notice! Sadly no, I have a Roland Juno DI and a Roland JD-XI and I have no knowledge on sound patches
no worries. Well, sorry to say, the patches/sounds won't translate between the two. Just do what I did -- listen to what the sound sounds like and try to break down what instruments it sounds like -- strings, brass, bell, whatever. Then tweak as needed (either changing wav parameters or adding effects). good luck, and have fun with it :-)
Aw darn thats a shame. Maybe Ill invest in the synth you use here one day, looks like a solid one.
@@TrolladinPlays I love the Triton, but it's pretty old; I wouldn't start from scratch with it if I was just starting out. Laptops now can have tons of synths loaded and use a MIDI controller to play them -- I'd probably do that if starting over.
1:00 what sounds are you using for the right hand? i think i am hearing Brightness? i also think most of the sounds of this keyboard are also available on Korg Kross.
Right hand is a combination of a bell and strings. Not sure about the Kross, I haven't researched new keyboards in ages.
@@galtem well ok. So allow me to fill you in. Korg kross 1 is a model introduced like in 2013. There's even a Kross 2 now which was introduced in 2017 i think. The Kros 1 was sort of marketed as carrying sounds from Triton..or i think one of the 4 Bonus PCG files we get for free. So I was kinda familiar with some sounds you used in this song like the Sugarsmash or bBrightness, was it.
And also, thanks for the info. I will redo my patch for this. I made one last night just to start practicing on.
@@ShanMichaelEscasio very cool!
Good shyt..🆒✊
How long have you had that Triton board..??
Thanks! oh man, at least 15 years.
Oh that's awesome..✊
I've always wanted one, spotted one couple months ago for around $500 at a local pawn shop but it looked like it'd been to hell and Back
Props for having one in good working condition after all these years.🤘
This is great but isn’t the left hand playing through the whole song? You stop to do the right hand melody (the fast part).
How did you set up your keyboard? I play mostly ? the guys want me to be mote dynamical on setting up the keyboard with layers and splitting. Do you have a video of this
What time did you do for this I got a Casio and I can get the right side of my keyboard to sound perfect but my left side doesn’t sound how I want it too is there any way to keep one side how it is but the other side different
It's 100% dependent on your particular keyboard - it has to have the ability to split up the board into different sounds for different groups of keys. From what you are describing I'm assuming your whole keyboard is the same sound from low to high for whichever sound you pick. Most Casio's I've seen don't have the ability to split the board up into different sections, but maybe yours can -- you'll need to read your user manual to see if yours can do it. If it can't, then you 'll need a different keyboard that can, or a 2nd keyboard to put alongside.
Get really good at changing between two settings quickly
Hello, good afternoon. Do you know what keyboard or emulator Roger O'Donnell uses in this song?
thank you!!!
Hi, I'm sorry I don't
Tutorial for this pls..
Sometimes when you're playing a C, I'm hearing an E
In addition, I’m hearing a G on his D and an A on his E. I wonder if it’s a drawbar organ with those overtones chosen.
nice job on this
I will be playing this in a band. Thank you!
