The model produced by SpecCast is not the earlier machine that is seen operating at Gerharts in Lititz, PA, being operated by Mr. "Flash" Gordon. The machine seen operating is the iconic version that participated on major infrastructure jobs in the U.S and around the world, featuring the mechanical Feather-Touch clutch control system and the so-called "breadbox" cab. The model produced is the Series 2 that was introduced in the early 1970s, with the Capsule Cab and fully air controllled clutches, known as Cushion-Air. By that time, there was competition with newer forms of digging machinery, notably wheel loaders and emerging hydraulic excavator technology.

Great review! I hope Spec Cast makes a cable backhoe version of this great Northwest 80D model, also!

Very good and informative review of the 80D. Great information and description of the iconic shovel. Hopefully sales will be good on this and Specast will be inclined to produce more NW machines!

Very cool model and review. A friend of mine has and still operates a first generation 80D in California…always a lot of fun to sit behind him in the Cab when he runs it. I had a question however, where did you get the image of Northwest’s logo? I haven’t had any luck online personally and have been wanting to find that exact image you have on the thumbnail and video.. many thanks!

I took the logo from a picture and drew it in Adobe Illustrator. I would be happy to send you a copy of it, just reach out to me on facebook facebook.com/loganaskeele/

Did this machine come with interchangeable booms to be converted into a crane, dragline or backhoe?

So you really think this is an "impressive" model? The fact is, this model is a piece of garbage & Dave Bell of SpecCast should be ashamed of himself. None of the details are accurate & nothing is proportional compared to the actual Northwest 80-D shovel. This is definitely not worth the $250 that SpecCast gets for it. I should know, I own a real Northwest 80-D shovel as well as a larger 180-D shovel.
