Jesus never claimed to be God. (He would have been disregarded as a common lunatic if he did, much like we would today.) He consistently referred to God being his father. And this offended the Pharisees, because they knew that this was an actual possibility. And neither he nor any other Scripture writer claimed him to be "God incarnate", either. The term used is that the *word* was made flesh. One place talks about him being "equal with God", but the rest of verse explains that this is on account of Jesus claiming God was his father. Another location has Jesus plainly stated that his father was greater than he was. Read was is written, then preach the same.
