Vasco Rossi is the most important italian rock star and he supported Maneskin for Sanremo competition and then for ESC. And now Vasco has to say thanks to Maneskin if the other country are discovering his music.

Vasco is a legend, been on the Italian music scene the past 40 years. He's a poet, wrote many ballads, and his fans know every single word of his songs. I would say the most important part of his work is the lyrics, not music, not the singing, but his interpretation. Unfortunately much of the meaning and the beauty of the lyrics is lost in translation, many Italian words or expressions are concepts that take many English terms to be explained. Anyway, check out more performances from this Modena Park concert, Sballi ravvicinati, or Gli spari sopra.

As an italian, I have to ley you know… Lara Fabian is not the most italian singer… She came out in the country she actually grewed up, Belgium. Here in Italy, Ww mainly know her as an international artist with italian roots, but his music is not part of our heritage. Adagio is the only song we know and just because went an hit abroad. Later she participated even in Sanremo, but… nothing special. In Italy we don't appreciate so much opera-pop, only Il Volo is loved, because for their vocal style, wich is a good balance between opera and pop voice. Lara Fabian sounds a little too much (and a little kitsch) for italian average taste.

      Ecco come è andata :
It happened in 1990, when Vasco, after playing at San Siro and Flaminio in Rome, was called by the very famous band to open their Italian lives. And Vasco said no. Because?
In the calendar of the band of Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, there were also three concerts in Italy, on 25 and 26 July in Rome and 28 in Turin: the Stones had not come to our country since 1982.
And, despite everyone expecting a triple sold out, sales slowed after the initial boom. And, promoter David Zard thought about joining a strong Italian artist to the band. And Vasco was the solution proposed a few days after the first live. And Blasco refused.
As told by Enrico Rovelli, who was Vasco's manager at the time: "The proposal is flattering both for me and for Vasco, a candidate to save the concerts of the legendary group. Done today, however we consider it rushed, and therefore impossible. A collaboration in this level must be seriously organized long before and not in extremis. "
And many years later, Giorgio Verdelli, director of Unici, with an episode dedicated also to the singer, declared: "No one else would have refused, and I believe that this is the reason for the success of Vasco, who is an artist aware of his own strength too. in front of one of his favorite bands. 40 thousand spectators went to the Stones concert, but Vasco at San Siro scored a double with 110 thousand. [...] Despite being a fan of theirs, Vasco did not accept, saying that perhaps in Italy the Rolling Stones could open for Vasco Rossi. "

@@BritPopsReact Perhaps the song that gives the best idea of how many people were there is the first one, "Colpa di Alfredo", the video gives the best idea of the stage and the people around it and the many speakers distributed in the park. The song is very pleasant, an ironic ballad (of many years ago, so maybe not politically correct in the language of this period) on the fact that sometimes we have illusions for no particular reason. Copy and paste from Wikipedia "The stage at Enzo Ferrari park was 165 metres (541 ft) long and stood 8 metres (26 ft) off the ground. It featured five large video screens with a total area of 1,500 square metres (16,000 sq ft). Four of these were set on tracks, so that they could move sideways depending on the video scenography required during each song. The remaining four screens, two per side, were installed within PIT 3. Special effects were produced by 2,100 light points and 140 lasers. Transportation of all the staging equipment required a total of 136 semi-trailer trucks.[11][12]
The sound was played through a 750,000-watt L-Acoustics audio system consisting of 900 speaker modules connected by 100 kilometres (62 mi) of fiber optic cables, with 29 sound towers to allow all 230,000 viewers along a 400-metre (1,300 ft)-long lawn to listen without return or echo effects. According to production staff, one megawatt of energy was consumed during the concert. The two main towers located in front of the stage, each containing 80 speaker modules, were suspended using two-ton cranes for each tower."

Dear English friends... Vasco Rossi was (in the early '80) the first successful rock author in Italy in the most classic sense (in Italy they had depopulated the beat groups in the late sixties, followed throughout the first half of the seventies by great progressive bands: the "Premiata Forneria Marconi", or "PFM", the "Area - International Popular Group", the "Osanna", the "Banco del Mutuo Soccorso" , etc. etc. etc. and were a great success especially some great songwriters in those years and before); Vasco Rossi made some remarkable albums at the beginning (between 1978 and 1982), the first three or four, then he only gratified a not very demanding fan-base (his "originality", if there was one, disappeared then, although he continued to write some good songs) (the first albums however are pretty beautiful).

As far as I'm concerned... in Italy in the eighties there was almost only one "great" band, a punk band, the "CCCP fedeli alla Linea", then became "CSI" ("Consorzio Suonatori Indipendenti"), equally "great". Among the various good groups in the nineties I point out the "Marlene Kuntz" (the first album in particular, the songs "Nuotando nell'aria", "Lieve", "Canzone di domani"); there are others (many others) but the comment is already too long.

But then there are niche rock bands such as Balletto di Bronzo (Progressive, '70es); PFM (Progressive, 70es - 2021); CCCP (Punk, '80es); Prozac+ (Progressive, 90es); Afterhours (Alternative, 80-2021).

Yes, Vasco is a single player, the fame is locked with him names, but is much more close to the group band rather to the singer. In the beguinning him have a solid band with him, the same person for year, but with a carrier so long of course the band become much more fluid. Even the famous band anyway are used to join with themself other musician for the live show, the only differents is in the name, is something like the name of the band of Vasco is Vasco also. Sorry my bad english.

Vasco Rossi is so intimate Italian that I struggle to believe it can be analyzed outside of his context. He is not only a rockstar (with lots of reckless moments in his early life), he also is a poet (no way to listen to his songs without italian language knowledge). His songs are a book about his life, our life and the emotions that to be understood and fully appreciated require at least to have an in depth knowledge of our culture and our way of life. While I appreciate the effort, I believe it is almost impossible to do a proper “reaction” on Vasco

He sounded great in this song.

Give Vasco Rossi - "Gli Angeli" Live 1996 a go, it's a sad song as Vasco is singing about a friend (ex manager) he lost to cancer at a relatively young age. The guitar work in this is of the highest calibre. make sure it's the live version ua-cam.com/video/LGc7Z_HGzdo/v-deo.html
Many of his album tracks sound completely different to his live performances, they have a softer sound whereas in concert the instruments really kick in and give it a completely different sound, so I personally prefer the lives because of that.

Hi, I don't know if you know a little about Italian pop-rock music, but I feel obliged to say that the only difference between this and English or American-produced music is the industrial and media apparatus that has prevailed over the decades over everything else. Italian production, seeing is believing, has nothing to envy of the one mentioned, indeed it is often even superior in terms of creativity and content. There are dozens of valiant artists or groups that touch every musical genre (prog, jazz-rock, rock, melodic pop, funk, etc..) Some random names from the 70s to today: PFM, Banco, Area, Perigeo, Vasco Rossi, Matia Bazar, Finardi, Gianna Nannini, Branduardi, De Andrè, Fossati, Bennato, Subsonica, Pino Daniele, Elio e le Storie Tese, the maestro Paolo Conte, Silvestri, Elisa, Caparezza, Maneskin, Diodato, etc etc, or Jestofunk and Planet Funk for pop-dance, etc.
Let's not talk about the jazz field where it is rather recognized that Italian jazz musicians are among the best in Europe and internationally.
In short, all this is to say that the excessive anglo-saxon musical and entertainment industrial power has prevented good communication and relationships between the creative realities of the countries, therefore there has been a lot of ignorance about the real musical artistic level of European countries and in this case of Italy . Perhaps it is time to rebalance these inequalities.

I don't know enough about the UK. In Germany, I think, especially up to the 80ies only a few acts gained broader popularity and they were mostly associated with the German "Schlager" which is something that's hard to describe and define. If I think about names, there's Adriano Celentano, of course. Angelo Branduardi had fans and "La pulce d'acqua" was very popular. And then we had Al Bano and Romina Power, for example, I remember a band called Ricchi e Poveri. Alice and Gianna Nannini had hit singles. Some Umberto Tozzi could be heard now and then. Zucchero's "Senza una donna" got played. Eros Ramazotti became pretty big. But that's about it? Again: it mostly went well with "Schlager". But not so much, perhaps, with US dominated pop of the time (with exeptions, as always). English as "preferred" language will play into that, I guess.

    • @matchupitchu7566
      @matchupitchu7566 3 роки тому +2

@@ulrichvonbek1618 the fact that italian music abroad is no longer popular like it was in the 60es 70es 80es and 90es is due to industrial choices imposed by the anglosaxon majors mafia. There was a time when it was possible to see in the international charts loads of italian, german, french and spanish artists. In the 80es emi, virgin and cbs changed the rules, started to distribute their own music internationally instead of relying on local labels and started investin big money on promotion buying all the promotion spots and erasing the spaces that were naturally dedicated to non english music in each country. From the mid 80es italian music started losing ground in countries where it was extremely popular like germany, latin america, france and spain simply because it became almost impossible to promote it properly. Those were the days of the british invasion that wouldn t have been such if they would have played on fair ground.
