100 Years of Movie Makeup | Allure
I don't like how for almost every "100 years of..." video, the standard tag-line for the 2010s is that we have become so flexible that people can do their own thing. That's such a cop out. If we look at ourselves critically, we'll see that there are some overall patterns in our beauty standards too. There may be several parallel styles, but honestly, there were parallel styles for every decade. We just remember the predominant ones.
ASB So true, but people might only realise the patters in the 2010's after the decade is over.
ASB these are problems to worry about
I feel like the "no makeup makeup" is the trend right now. Unless there's some fancy event where the woman would be wearing more, the makeup is undetectable.
Thick and shaped brows, various lip trends focused on appearing plumped, for most of the decade people shied away from glossy textures and preferred satin later matte, cat eyes and shading made a comeback, instagram-like flawless-but-obviously-fake makeup (that will likely not age gracefully), etc.
If I were to bet on it, I'd say in the future they'll probably pick instagram makeup to represent the 2010s, much like 80s makeup is seen as over the top nowadays even though there were much much softer looks as well.
(Most makeup looks on TV are influenced by these trends but undermined for obvious reasons)
ASB We're not that special though, lots of the other years saw sudden drastic changes in what was beautiful and what wasn't. The point of these videos is to show how broad the range is and give a small glimpse of where some of our modern trends may have come from
70's girl is perfect.
Megan Moss super agree
Megan Moss aagre!
She looks a bit like a younger katelyn jenner
ya its not too much
IKR! I was looking for this comment
the model they used for the 2000's is STUNNING.
The same model for 30s fyi
Love the pink Tracksuit.
the dress she was wearing for the 1960s was so cute
And you can get it at H&M, no joke
LaceA I know! Super cute
@@BlondieNicoline really?
I think you should make up with only one model to find the differences
And it will cost less for them lolll
THANK YOU FOR MAKING THE MODELS DIVERSE. ALL OF THEM ARE BEAUTIFUL AND THEY GOT ME LOWKEY SHOOOOOK
I'm offended that they didn't include an albino midget in the lineup. Boycott!!
I really like the 1940's makeup 😂
Edit: how did I get 447 likes?! Thanks so much y'all!
Edit 2: Holy crap why is this so liked
Lilly Ann me too
Lilly Ann we have some taste.
love it too 💕
L
StarGazer05 me too
Love the solid pink tracksuit where the model is wearing in the 2000s version movie make-up.
The 40's had me shook!! The makeup was so beautiful and soft back then!!
The 2000's girl somewhat resembles rihanna
lil Kim
Hahahaha yes exactly
No... no... no she don't is it because she's black?
No way Rihanna is freaking goddess
I see it
No.
All the girls were so pretty wow
Everyone loved the 1940s one, but I think the 1980s were pretty cute too!
I know the 1940 girl is gorgeous, but c'mon I really loved the 1950 girl and the make up... Absolutely beautifully!!! It reminds me my grandmother 💛
I feel like they always miss the mark.
they do the looks were all trash the 20s (not heavy enough but one of the cuter ones) the 50s (could have been cute but the girl looked like judge judy) the 60s (was possibly the second most accurate.)
yeah
honestly the 1950s-80s were spot on. The 20s and 30s should have been heavier/more dramatic. The 90s-2010s were just half assed.
They stopped the eyebrow trend bc back in the 2000s there was kind of more defined and less thick eyebrows. Defined full eyebrows are a new trend. I feel like they should include that so yes! I agree they kind of missed it
@@shanshan8687 i think maybe you should express ypur opinion more respectful
Ok, we gotta agree 1950 was OUTSTANDING
I feel like the 2010's is missing the trending essentials like contouring extreme highlight and the oh so popular liquid lipsticks even in flim.
The 70's girl looks like Lana Del Rey.
Ariel Miller I THOUGHT THAT TOO
emma watson!
So true!
60s-70s aesthetic is what Lana goes for lol
More like young Julia Roberts in my opinion
@@Tina2.1 yes
70's and 2010s my faves
1940s makeup and 1970s hair is my fav
Is it weird that I think the '80s makeup--overdone as it was, 'cos, well, '80s--actually made her eyes look REALLY pretty? Although I think my favourite look in this video overall was probably the '50s one. Classy.
Robin Chesterfield Subtle yet defined!
I'd say the the cat's eye and smoky eye with a thicker brow have been the look.
The 1940's look is wat il go for """simple, natural and yet so elegant.""""
ngl the 2010s one was underwhelming
now days its smokey eyes winged liner highlighter and matte lips
That's more what you see today on instagram, stage, or some red carpet photographs, not what makeup artists do for on screen actresses. Heavy makeup looks less flattering on moving film and in natural lighting, and can distract from up-close acting performance our high quality cameras can now capture on film. As our cameras become higher quality, less makeup is required to make an actresses features stand out. On stage however, darker makeup works due to the distance between actor and audience. If you look at most television and movie makeup, its a no-makeup makeup look unless the character calls for something heavier due to story (if the character is ultra-glamours, a performer, etc).
its not about what every day girls wear, its what makeup they do for film. so nope.
Jasmine Mohammed not for movies. watch any movie from 2010 onwards and all the actors have natural looking makeup
the title says "Movie Makeup" it's different from instagram makeup duh
it says FILM make up
I heard that Audrey Hepburn used to take a pin and separate each individual eyelash. Not a fan of spider lashes and I understand why. I love the 40's and the 60's look most. When I was younger I tried to do my eye makeup like twiggy but could never get it right. I just love that whole era.
I THOUGHT THE WOMAN MODELLING FOR THE 1970s WAS LANA FOR A SEC
Nina Kato same
She is clearly not my qween Lana by she still slays

I like the 50s look and the 80s music 🎶
なんか現代じゃないちょっと昔の時を背景とした映画を何作か見てると、その時代の女性の顔が本当にこの化粧通りの感じ面白い
I love The 60s dress!
In my opinion:
1920s - Dramatic
1930s - Elegant
1940s - Tough attitude with a subtle attention on the beauty
1950s - Complete beauty to familiarize their faces like Marilyn Monroe
1960s - Baddie, sexy, mature, bold, over-exaggerated beauty and more wild
1970s - Matching everything, matching eye shadow with outfit and more disco/hippy
1980s - Neon colors, bold clashing colors, big hair, big outfits, lots of accessories and dark makeup for the rock/punk
1990s - Perfect complexion (not much highlight, contour, bronzing, blush), sometimes no concealer because the under eye bags was a trend, basically looking like you did not use much products but you did
2000s - All glitter, glamour madness, sparkles ex. London Tipton, the sparkly/glossy lip gloss was a must, sparkly eye shadow too, self tanning, bronzing, whatever is hot and makes you look hot
2010s - A mixed with every type of makeup styles in the past, but the main focus is the Kylie Jenner big lips, Kim Kardashian brows and cheekbones. Main trends: Liquid Lipstick, Contour, Highlight, Lashes, MATTE. To look more mature, older, confident, sexy and elegant.
This is just my opinions and perspectives.
Pearly Huynh This video is talking about how makeup were over the years in films so

My fave was the 1970
The juicy track suit for the 2000s hahaha.
90s is the era when every teen agers like to wear blue eye shadow. Regarding on the lipstick, glossy lips is in. Hmm, i think, the researcher missed that
1920 beautyful
I'm with them with all the changes but in the early 21 centery 2000 the make up was metallic glittering. pink and creamy white was the most useful colors at the Time some women get a classic look with using gold color and silver and mexing them with pink and green colors..
In 90 dark blue and dark red especially those which mexing with brown and black are The major colors for that we enjoyed the fantastic changes in 2000 make up..
do group fashion versions
ugh the 1960s era was so cute
I feel so old now...
i love the make up of the sixties since birt🤣joke.
80's needed that severe racing stripe level contouring

I love the 80s even though I wasn't born yet
plz name of girl 0:46 😊

hbu?
90年代って意外とナチュラルなんだね。
、、、80年代の反動かしら?
個人的に40年代が好き!
1930's eyebrows wtf🤣
The 1970s makeup was nice.
If Lana Del Rey and Caitlyn Jenner have a child, it would be the girl in 1:55
It would be cool if they went over 100 years of special effects makeup in movies, but someone else that isn't Allure should do it so it'll actually be, you know, better.
where is marilyn monroes make in all that years ???she was an beauty icone !!!
Interesting...
