There were many class 37s painted in the Railfreight coal livery. Do you mean that 37213 was the only one painted at Laira or the only one painted at Laira in summer 1989?
Poor old 213 sounds terrible! Not in the best of health at all and yes just like 401 does at the moment. Was a good solid maachine too 213... I am racking my brains to think what 705 was working though, a long ish train of TTAs heading West.... they looked like fuel tanks as the last one was numbered 56xxx..

Sounds like one of the pumps is to advanced (diesel knock) or its blowing from the exhaust manifold joints. Could be a worn camb on one engine bank.
