He's one hell of a bassist too! I remember seeing his old videos where he was with gavin harrison and steve smith. He was the one playing the bass for the groove. Man's one helluva musician! 🔥
I was kinda disappointed that it was just a drum performance, I was thinking it would be cool to see the whole band, but I know realize that would have complicated things.
Holy crap, I did not know that!!! I was listening to the bass intro thinking "that's some mean bass part!" Realizing that it's him on the bass just made my appreciation for him just skyrocket (and it was pretty damn high baseline already)!!!
I disagree, I believe his playing would be better described as precise. Chris does not make unnecessary movements. What do you mean by more FEEL?😂 It was grooving the whole way.
I swear, Chris is the happiest freaking drummer on the planet. Always an infectious smile before he starts playing - then off he goes into his own little "Chris world groove". I could watch him play all day...
THE TRACK ITSELF: Is it Earth Wind & Fire 2024??!!! My head never stopped movin'! Groovin' hard like the veteran drummer you are C.C.! Outstanding musicianship, Mr. Coleman!
This is so groovy! Chris' pocket is just unreal. What a player. I was thinking that the band had some kind of Snarky Puppy vibe to it and then realized that Shaun Martin is playing Rhodes on this one. Pretty awesome :) Chris, you killed it and MEINL, what a video production. Unbelievable. Sound, cinematography and edit are top notch. Well done!
It's been a long time since I saw a good song with melody and good composition that wasn't just giving quick breaks fromColeman! This piece is greate! And killing that he plays the bass!
Nephew, you're killing it, love that back-beat (ghost notes) and the DG (Tower of Power) ride on the bell and the 10' dual splash, I've got to add that one to my kit! U Rich
When I heard the horns I thought “That sounds like Mo Horns” then I read the credits...YESSIR! Baltimore is in the house! Update: if you folks ain’t hip, the style of music Chris is playing. It is inspired of Go-Go music from Washington DC.
This track by Chris is an example of being spot on with a click, which takes a lot of metronome practice. He sits in the pocket so well, doesn't need or try to get out ahead of the song, lets the song express itself. He clearly understands his role in the track and intentionally sits comfortably in the pocket. There are times I felt like the tempo needed to speed up and almost anticipated it from the beginning, but it remained steady. I think it was about 2:13 before he actually used a tom.
I don’t think I’m overstating that he’s definitely one of the modern greats. Absolutely incredible and jaw dropping every single time.
Wouldn't be surprised if the bass player here was Chris himself. What a beast
Edit: Yup! Just checked the description.

Thought it was from Seinfeld for a sec!
He actually earned a bachelor degree on bass at MI
Holy crap, I did not know that!!!

You really do have to be a drummer to understand how much of a machine he is on every track.
I agree, he drums very stiff and machinistic :P
i kinda agree, more feel would be nice

Stop critiquing and practice more. Geeez.
Good thing this is a drumming video, on a drum cymbal company page making content for drummers... 🤓

It's his special ointment! You know when Chris is oiled up you're in for an excellent performance.
That's the lube that makes his grooves so smooth. He's got so much it's seaping out through his pores.
