STAR WARS™: The Old Republic™ - Timeline - The Great Hyperspace War

- *This is not a new timeline, it was a previously missing upload.*
Over the millennia, the Galactic Republic has faced no greater threat to its existence than the brutal invasion instigated by Sith Lord Naga Sadow. It was a time in history when the original Sith Empire had reached the height of its power, and the Republic was poorly prepared for a conflict of such magnitude. Master Gnost-Dural looks back at the Great Hyperspace War and identifies the controversial decision that drove the Sith into exile and set the stage for the Empire's campaign of vengeance against the Republic. - Ігри
"I'll elaborate in the next holorecord"
And that holorecord never came.
The Old Republic Era and the Ancient Sith are so DOPE, They deserve their own movies and series.
TheJCJexe they can’t Disney try to make Star Wars into a wannabe superheroes movies
@lordsion me either
Man, I wish they finished these "Holorecords", they were sooooo cool when the game first came out and still are! It would've been great to have insight into the earliest days of the Sith and the Jedi order. I was quite disappointed when they said they weren't gonna finish them.
Don't worry, they are adequately recorded in "Jedi vs Sith - the essential guide to the Force", which you can download via internet or buy it in bookstore.
I really want a star wars film series based on the Old Republic everything from the mandolorean war to the fall and return of the sith. That would be a sick star wars film series
+Moises Chirino YES!
+Moises Chirino yeah instead they give us a non-canon-disney-story...
+Moises Chirino In a age where Game of Thornes is this popular, don't you think that Disney is going to try to cash in on some of this lore at some point. They paid 4 billion dollars for the franchise after all.
I know right. And they should make a movie like a documentary with narration like this but add Morgan Freeman as a narrator lol that would be epic af
ArnoldFTW97 They need Morgan Freeman to play an actual character in one of the movies. I'd love to see him as a Jedi or Sith (or some light or dark side user depending on the story or timeline, such as Old Republic Sith vs. New Republic Knights of Ren, etc. Or something entirely new.). He would just dominate as either role, I feel.
Since it seems unlikely we'll ever get another video in this series, I'll summarize what was going to be in it.
The Sith Empire as we know it formed after dark Jedi settled on Korriban and interbred with the native Sith species. These Jedi had been exiled from the Republic in the aftermath of the Hundred Year Darkness, a destructive conflict resulting from the Second Great Schism between the Jedi. The Schism occured when a sect of Jedi started openly practicing the dark side, most notably alchemy. The orthodox Jedi could not abide this, and war soon broke out.
The dark side Jedi ultimately lost, and rather than face execution as the Republic desired, they were exiled to the far corners of the galaxy. It was hoped that they would eventually see the error of their ways. Instead they found Korriban, where the relatively primitive Sith welcomed them as gods. This would ultimately serve as the root of the Sith's current mageocratic hierarchy, where force users are given near unrestricted authority.
The dark Jedi went on to interbreed with the natives, until the two groups could no longer be distinguished. The Sith eagerly took up the dark side teachings of their new masters, such that even if Naga Sadow had not engineered the Great Hyperspace War millenia later, it is likely the Sith and Jedi would have clashed anyway.
It shouldn't be forgotten, though, that the reason the dark Jedi were allowed to live was because their erstwhile comrades believed that they could be redeemed. This is especially important in relation to the attempted genocide that ended the Great Hyperspace War. The Sith believe that if we are victorious we will wipe them out, and I believe that only when this impression is erased will this war end.
Worth noting, however, is that the conflict between Jedi and Sith is ultimately a manifestation of the conflict between the Light and Dark sides of the force, and this conflict dates back to the earliest days of the Order. The Force Wars of Tython shall be the subject of my next report.
Now someone just needs to have a good impression of Jedi Master Gnost-Dural, get some good artwork depicting these events, then do a fan made video lol
what about the First Great Schism?
Sad thing is, no Sith species or culture remains around BY times. They were indeed wiped out, either by extintion, admixture or genocide
@@BillyBatsonShazam I’m surprised no one even kept DNA of species in the Galaxy.
thanks for that
Who else thinks we need a movie about the great hyperspace war
Bob Bobby Bufet me
I agree or a live action tv show like the underground that was planed or a cartoon like the clone wars and the cgi clone war.
Michael Scott me
Michael Scott Yes!!!! Naga Sadow should be the protagonist or the chief character instead of a Jedi or sth. The movie should follow his motivations and deeds.
Michael Scott We'll have the greatest Great Hyperspace War movie and Mexico will pay for it
I just... I just really wish this was canon... please... bring it back to me...
Nyxato Why does it matter if it's canon?
Roland Deschain agreed. Most canonical material isn’t as good anyways. “Legends” or rather the true EU‘s content is the way to go.
Just pretend it’s canon. It doesn’t affect the canon timeline anyway.
When was it ever made non canon?
@@DropkickNation When Disney bought star wars
Star Wars = Epic history
"it was at this moment the republic made what might now be considered a mistake"
-commits genocide
Take a drink every time he says “the great hyperspace war.”
Or naga sadal
So Admiral Hackett had traveled to the Star Wars galaxy and told the TOR history as well.
buek14 i thought the voice sounded familiar lol
and they are both Bioware too!
I would be ok with this being canon.
Please make more of these!!! They are super interesting
Kinda wished they continued with this timeline history series
The Great Hyperspace War is still canon just not the events of the war. In The Clone Wars series there is a mural in Palpatine's office that depicts an attack on Corusant that happened during the war.
Myth
And the next record? Where is the next record?!? Master Dural!!! We want to learn more!
The next record if it will even come to be will probably be a retelling of the Second Great Jedi Schism which is the definitive start point of The Old Republic in my opinion.
I doubt it will come 5 years after this one
Facu Pudenti they stopped doing this
Sadly, they decided that since the records that came after this had increasingly less bearing on the events of SWTOR, and cancelled them.
According to Wookieepedia, the installments that were originally planned were:
Timeline 13: The First Dark Sith Lords on Korriban
Timeline 14: The 2nd Great Jedi Schism (a.k.a. the Hundred Year Darkness)
Timeline 15: The Jedi Join the Republic
Timeline 16: Founding of the Republic
Timeline 17: The Jedi Order is Established
Timeline 18: The Force War on Tython (see the Dawn of the Jedi comics)
Timeline 19: Force "Discovered" on Tython
@@Filbi I wish they would have done them. I would have loved to see Ajunta Pall, Remulus Dreypa, Karness Muur, and the other Exiles.
Disney did an unforgivable crime when they declared the Old Republic and all this lore as legend.
Fortunately, pretty much everything pre-prequel trilogy can still be canon. The only thing that doesn't really work is Dawn of the Jedi. For now, obviously. But then I've always had a "canon until proven otherwise" approach to things.
You children are the cancer eating this franchise from the inside out
I like learning star wars history in the old republic
Old Republic is the best starwars period
Being a lover of History, this stuff is gold.
Naga's ship looks cool asf
All started when one apprentice screw everything up.
That sums up the demise of every great Sith empire.
Harbinger10892 and that's why the Rule of Two Sith were stronger. An empire that crumbles from within is dead forever, all because the Sith turn on each other like a pack of wolves
Eric Graham Even Sith who abides by The Rule of Two eventually fall because no one actually followed it.
It is the nature of Sith to turn on one another, Rule of Two or not.
Harbinger10892 Sith do not turn on each other, they weed out the week
It was Gav Daragon, one of the two Republic explorers. He turned back from the dark side and gave his life to stop Sadow.
BioWare, please, PLEEEEEEEAAASE keep those going! They are awesome lore pieces! Also would be extremely useful in case Disney accepts The Old Republic era as canon which they are likely to do eventually! PleasePleasePlease!!!!
Darth bane is cannon as is he cannon why not these games??
+Luis Diaz Because parts of the series is not canon. For instance the Sith homeworld is now called Moraband and not Korriban. Tython doesn't seem to be the homeworld of the Jedi now either based on the map of where Luke is in EP VII.
Disney seems to be trying to reintegrate the EU into their canon with what we've seen in The Clone Wars and Rebels so here's to hoping.
+Luis Diaz coz bane rules ;p
+EonStormcrow why the renamed planet well 2, 1st that it got blown up or the sith dark side powers left that place ;p
or they moved from there to there ;p Moraband and not Korriban.
both sith home worlds what one was more powerful with the dark side, sith lord bane find that out i think ;p he had to rebuild alot of the sith stuff ;p
its a home for people not the power of the sith ;p??? where a'lot of sith died or where they lived for so long ?? or where dark side animals live ?
+The Beyonder I'll be completely honest mate, I have no idea what you said haha.
Just to be clear, canonically, Korriban and Moraband are the same planet. It was George Lucas who wanted it changed for that episode in the Clone Wars when Yoda went to it and we know that the Clone Wars series is canon. Apparently he liked the planet's history but liked the sound of "Moraband" rather than "Korriban" so they had it changed.
It's a shame they didn't make one covering the initial origins of the Sith. It's not entirely essential or anything, just kind of stands out as pretty much the *only* thing not covered.
Please make more! Love how they explain more in-depth.
About time a new Timeline video has come I love these
ADMIRAL HACKETT. YOU SURVIVED.
Please continue this videos. They were amazing
I first found out about this conflict in the book Crosscurrent. Such a fascinating period in SW history.
finally been waiting for another one of these
I think I nerdgasmed in this epic story.
They committed genocide!?!! The Sith military was gone and he even said "the Sith were no longer a threat" WHAT THE HELL!! The republic slaughtered billions of civilians! They even rebelled against the Sith that were fighting the republic!
This is why I hate Jedi and the republic -.-
Chris Pines It was a misstake, but to be honest, they were a threat to the Republic as they came all the way to the Core Worlds. They did not expected what happened after as the Republic tried to kill the remaining Sith, but failed to.
how can it be a "mistake" if they ment to.
how are civilians a threat? thats all that was left. the sith military was gone and the remaining sith were the ones that rebelled against khan who was the one fighting the republic. its the republics own fault that the sith came back to kick their ass.
the jedi master himself said that the sith were no longer a threat.
Chris Pines Civilians are one of the most powerful weapons in war,as they can be used in almost infinite ways to gain an advantage. Do you think the Soviet Union just 'happened' to have over 30 million soldiers in WW2 ? No,its something called 'conscription' , which obligates civilians to enroll in order to protect their country or planet(in this case). So having known the sith planet wasn't divided in countries like ours is(therefore meaning a single government over the whole planet),it would basicly mean billions of soldiers (poorly trained or not, there's still billions of them) to use against the Republic..
im confused why your talking about WW2 this is a fictional space universe.
and thats a very big assumption. your also leaving out that the remaining sith had just rebelled against the dictator, the one that was attacking the republic.
if peace had even been attempted the second war might have been avoided.
the old sith empire is the coolest
Looks like either Gnost Dural died before he could finish the holo records or he got sick of them since he said they were a “daunting task!”
i would so be down for GO FUND ME TO create this as a movie....sadly disney would shut it down
Well look at that. Yesterday I commented that I would prefer the timeline videos to the convention videos and there we have it!
The next SW movies should use these fantastic cinematics for inspiration. I hear people say they want a Old Republic movies or shows, but not yet for me. I want Lucasfilm to try out first with adapting the High Republic era. They are going to start with the Acolyte show. But for movies, they can use the Nihil as main antagonist and take some cues from the war between the Sith Empire and Jedi Order in the past. All though space marauders, they pack with some heavy firepowers and tricks to be a threat to be reckon with. I would expand their faction a bit by having a group of fighters using energy weapons like Snoke Praetorian guards. Some of these guards should be cool looking and be similar to Darth Malgus.
So the Jedi committed genocide?
republic*
+MATCH INC. The Jedi led the incursion into Korriban, so they were even more to blame than the Republic to some extent. They could have refused the Chancellor
AJ Rice did it say they led it? I didnt catch it if it did
+MATCH INC. Yeah, it's explicitly mentioned at 4:39. The Jedi formed the spearhead of the attack
With the first Great Jedi schism in which they cleansed the Legions of Lettow yes.
Wish you guys would finish out this series. It was fascinating.
To think it was that Republic Explorer who betrayed Naga Sadow..... his name was Gav Dragoon and he was force sensitive so Dark Lord took him as an apprentice. But Dark Side is not for everyone, and certainly not for humans and Sadow learnt that the hard way. Alien Sith are nothing but laugh. All they seek is domination over all and destruction of everything posing threat. That is why Darth Bane had to create Rule of Two. Because Sith Purebloods withdrew to place not known to anyone and aliens Sith as always could do nothing but fight each other. To see Sith Empire in it's true glory there must be one recreated by Purebloods and only them. For they are the only race in the galaxy able to use Dark Side without wiping each other out otherwise they would never be able to survive at all
The Dark Side is not for humans??? Human Sith: Darth Sidious, Darth Vader, Darth Tyrannus, Darth Malgus, Exar Kun, Darth Malak, Darth Krayt.
Have you checked their looks? Especialy Sidious looked like some twisted clown who thought only about himself. Everything is mine, my power, my galaxy, my rulership. He and his predecesors who were products of Darth Bane's idiotic rule of two. Sith didn't become as idea. They became as Race. A race that was able to live in great numbers, that was connected to dark side in natural ways. They were born Sith and not had to become ones which often resulted in fact they were failed imposters. Rule of two was most disgracing time period for all Sith history.
MrDarkenson the rule of two never ended
+MrDarkenson Sidious was preparing to defend the galaxy from Yuzhan Wongs when it was still canon though :))
Didn't know Admiral Hackett also served the republic
The Senate blames the Jedi for the first SWTOR War... But actually it was the Senate that is to blame...
Ever since reading Into the Void, and Lost Tribe of the Sith I've loved delving into the Star Wars universe, and in every story there's a reference or hint to something that happened in the past that makes me want to know the story behind that.
Tulak Hord was the uber lightsaber weilder, Ludo Kressh was too, but Naga Sadow was extremely adept at Sith magics.
Its always the Sith apprentice betrayed the master
not always
It is inevitable, it is the way of the dark side...
1:05 2:27: Why is Coruscant in 5000 BBY looks technologically advanced, while in Tales of the Jedi: The Golden Age of the Sith and The Fall of the Sith Empire, it would be just huge stone structures
4:23 The Senate Hall should still be a wide open air stone builidng
We need a clone wars style series covering the old republic
@Exar kun The dark side cosmic entity live action or clone wars s7 level animation
@Exar kun The dark side cosmic entity With Jon favro, dave and other people who are actually fans.
@Exar kun The dark side cosmic entity of course... So long as that Genndy guy animates it, like he did with the clone wars
@Exar kun The dark side cosmic entity the clone wars 2003 has good violence and death with good battles. The 2008 one is cringe
@@EternalEmperorofZakuul nah
Thank you Mr. Lance Henriksen. "You just stay the hell away from me, you got that Bishop?!" -Ripley-
I wish a movie was based on this but even if it was Disney will ruin it just like they ruin the new trilogy. Disney is the greatest threat to star wars movies
AWESOME
This video hints at the Fallen Jedi who stumbled upon Korriban - I think a video discussing this topic is long overdue - as are other videos. Can’t wait to see what SWTOR gives us next...
The action to commit genocide on the already weakned Sith, was indeed a mistake. I think this was the biggest misstake by the Galactic Senate.
If this did not happen, then I think the Sacking of Coruscant never happened. Or any war between the Sith Empire and the Republic.
+gameplay2172 "already weakened" is an understatement on par with "Tim Burton likes Johnny Depp"
The Sith Empire posed *no* threat what so ever to the Republic.
They had given their unconditional surrender.
They were not weakened, they were defeated.
can I use this video to showcase a collection I'm making on steam for avorion? I'm making ships and stations based on the hyperspace war.
All the material is here
@SurrealLeaf well, there's no clear-cut date, but here's an excerpt from swtor.com/info/faq#170949
"At this time, a final release date for Star Wars: The Old Republic has not been revealed. We are currently aiming to release Star Wars: The Old Republic in holiday 2011. To receive up-to-date news about Star Wars: The Old Republic, please visit our main site, sign up for official emails, like us on Facebook, or follow our Twitter account! "
Aw I was hoping it was a new one!
will there ever be the next holo-record? TT_TT
No, actually. They discontinued them because they believed they were getting less and less relevant to the game.
+FreakDaMIghet
"they believed"
"less relevant"
And the stupid apprentice couldn't even wait 'til the battle is over to kill his master. He chose to kill his master when the master was using Battle Mediation! That shit sure backfired them hard.
Actually, that "apprentice" was Gav Daragon, one of the two republic explorers. He joined Naga Sadow to keep his sister safe. The reason why he turned on Naga Sadow was because he realized that the Sith were evil. So no, the apprentice wasn't stupid. Given his loyalties, he was actually smart.
What is the source of this and who is the voice actor? It sounds like Lance Henriksen
It is Lance Henriksen.
When I started this video, I was not expecting a voice over by Lance Henriksen
Why has he not been cast as a jedi yet
he was! he literally voices the archivist Jedi Master Gnost-Dural in the game.
@@brotftheyhaveusernamesnow He voices Ghost Dural in the Galactic Timeline videos, but when BioWare finally introduced him into the game, for one reason or another, they replaced Lance Henriksen with some other guy. A shame, but it's not like that bit of the story would've been worth playing even if they _had_ brought back Lance.
@pumpkin545 No this is 3,000 years before the movies. This is a continuation of Knights of the Old Republic. This specific timeline takes place about 1,400 years before KOTOR.
lance is the man for this matter!
Morgan Freeman also XD
Why did they stop doing these?
WildCard2281 i do. This was from when the game was coming out, and bioware and ea felt like the rest were pointless as it was so far removed from swtor itself.
And despite everyone telling them we want more, they discontinued them before the game even came out, long before the buyout.
it really wouldnt have made sense for them to continue, my guess is that if they went further back in time with these they would be spoiling too much for later expansions
Cool
They should make more, and not stop at 13 but at 13 000! If these were on the History Channel I'd spend sheer weeks before the TV.
Why have you guys never completed this series? It was fantastic.
Apparently One of the statues on Exogol in Rise Of skywalker was naga sadow, so technically it's now canon again.
We need more!
@Testocules lol, on one of those E3 vids one of them said "We could tell them, but Steven Reid Said it would be funnier not to." I don't know if it's better or worse if that's true.
wow it has been exactly one year since this was uploaded as of today
Know that's a history lesson I would like to listen to
@Ninjas2040 No this is before the rebirth of the sith empire. This takes place 1,400 years before the ToC. This is the reason why the sith went into exile on Droumand Kaas in the first place
For those who are waiting for a release date announcement during an expo: I frankly believe it will not happen during a major expo. If they want to win the "marketing war" they are going to schedule a press conference and announce the release date, probably 1 month or 1.5 away from the conference. That way competitors won't have time to react with a beta (see HotS) or with a major content patch (see 4.3 "Deathwing").
@jonnygonzo Indeed it is, Lance Henriksens is his name. He's been doing voice work and acting for a long time now.
@ThePrimaryDirective yes.
Where was this suppose to have been uploaded in the timeline?
Was it between 'The Exar Kun War' & 'The Rebirth of the Sith Empire' timeline vids?
@Novelboy2112 I believe they stopped making timelines until after the release date
I love how he "started a chain of events" to destroy the star, when in the original comic he just used the force to blow it the hell up. They make Sith too OP sometimes.
cant wait for this game
I didn't know General Shepard knew so much about the Great Hyperspace War
when is the next report coming in? we want to know more. according to the site, we're supposed to get like 8, at the most. why wait so long?
Old republic is the best part of star wars.
These little snippets would be excellent to use as holocron recording...just my opinion
@TurkishPhantom True, but at least we know when to expect it
i dont understand the timeline however . The treaty coruscant seems to happen more than one time . What is the lineage anyway ?
This happened about 1-2 thousand years before the treaty
Exar Kun is about 350 years
And Revan was 300 years
I just want more timelines already! anyone know why there isn't more?
Why have they not made this to a movie? Like a movie that predates all the original trilogies that shows how everything started
+Jack Sutter cause if they tried to do that now they would fk it up, give it another 10 years for the industry to mature
+Jack Sutter It'll probably happen one day. Or at least a big game.
What happened to the timeline team? still much of history before the great hyperspace war like the force war, first sith lords of korriban, formation of the jedi order and republic, discovery of the force etc.
multisturge because Bioware believed this should've been the end of the timeline series. It explains enough as to why the Sith Empire attacked and ravaged the Republic and the Jedi
When's the next timeline coming?
good times brother!!
@JeffDronkers the creature on the right at 1:20 is a massassi , not a sith. They look alike but aren't the same.
One of these days I should really read all the datacron codex entries but it is so annoying that they are not legacy-bound. You can't see all codex entries on one character, even if you collected all of the before.
@TheComputerEmpire It is the same dude in Aliens that played the android, and in Mass Effect voiced Admiral Hackett, aka Lance Henrikson (sorry if the name is spelled wrong)
cool
Notice the old lightsabres of the Dark Jedi had a power pack source
so when will a new one be released?
its bishop from aliens doing the voice of the narrator.
+Billy Pittl What you talking about.... Its Admiral Hackett from Mass Effect!
+DaHALOSHOCK The actor's name is Lance Henrikson. He did the voice of Admiral Hackett in Mass Effect and played the role of Bishop in the Aliens franchise. He was also in the Pumpkinhead movies.
lol i know who he is.
+DaHALOSHOCK Cool, cool.
This trailer reminds me of the Homeworld video clips.
finally!
The guy at GameStop said it was coming out on Nov. 22 which, to me, isn't a surprise because the majority of everything is coming out this year is during that month.
Something new PLZ!!! This is half a year old already. New Content and I'll be happy!
When will they continue this Timeline project???
