Another great discussion! Thank you so much for your labor in the love of music. This video was right on time for me. It spoke to where I am want to go musically with my voice. The speaker was very knowledgeable and well verse. As my family says “she put it where the goats can get it😊!” She gave good insight and information on music types ex: country vs blues. I am always listen and trying to learn new ways to strengthen my instrument. As I want to lift it up like a trumpet. So thank you two for your time an energy. Also, I’m sorry to hear of the negative comments some one gave. Don’t give them any energy. Again great job. Blessings to you sir🌻
Fascinating, Dr Trineice provides many pearls of wisdom at all levels, not only is she a sublime performer, but she is extremely generous with her time when it comes to teaching and guiding the not so musically gifted (moi). A truly gifted teacher and singer. Well done Dr Dan for bringing her on.
I grew up in an Assemblies of God church in the Southern United States, & became church pianist at age 12. By the time I was a teenager, I was playing not only for services but also for adult choir, teen choir, & ensembles. Our church had grown to the point where we had a church orchestra & televised services. I played & sang solos, in a Contemporary Christian band, & in a Contemporary Christian vocal group. Then I started playing & singing professionally for weddings. I pretty much did it all, but I owe it all to my savior Jesus Christ & to my church for giving me opportunities to minister in music. It is so very true that we must be less so that Christ is more. The message is of utmost importance! Serving in this capacity requires a willingness to humbly do what the church asks if you, & to be ready to do the old hymns, play worship choruses by ear (something I tonight myself to do because I’m a classically trained pianist), & put in hours of practice per day to be able to play for cantatas & other special musical performances. There’s a lot to it. However, the reward is being able to use & develop all of your God-given talents.
I had to comment again because this chat is gold. So much of singing is a mental game. Tightness not just throat but tightness of the body can really hold one back. The main thing is getting your breathing down and having a warm up that frees and relaxes your voice. So thankfully we got Dr Dan and his guest to help us along our vocal journeys
I really enjoyed this .. thank you 🙏 I especially love the bit about being “allowed” to express ourselves and feeling like we should be quiet for cultural or societal reasons really hit home - I feel this is going to be pivotal for me 😊 Thanks again
You're very welcome! I'm so glad it resonated with you. It's empowering to embrace our true selves and break free from those societal constraints. Wishing you all the best on your journey! 😊
This content just blew me away! Such depth and understanding how culture deeply influences your capacity to express your most authentic self, and deepest emotions! But what if you grew up in this "poche" culture, where you were taught all your life to hold back, suppress your true self, not showing how you feel, how do you strip away those layers, and access and accept your true self/voice again? I really commend you, Dr Trineice, for choosing to remain authentic and express who you are in an environment where that might not be the "norm". I really need Jesus to help me with that process, He knows me inside out will give me the courage to be vulnarable! Thank you so much for this interview!
I am enjoying the conversation. Definitely learning a lot for example difference between Country music vs Blues. Very interesting! Respectfully, I would like to say that the anointing is a very specific spiritual thing that comes from the Spirit of God and only from Him. It is absolutely not a manufactured human thing. Yes, if a person sings a song about or to God with conviction His presence can be felt. A song itself can be anointed for instance, Shout to the Lord written by Darlene Zschech, is an anointed song. Or, a person can have an anointing meaning they are blessed by God to do a specific work for His purpose- spread the good news of Christ, heal, etc. Just saying that to say that someone can be extremely gifted and can touch people with their singing or playing of a musical instrument, however, that does not mean there’s an anointing there. The person could simply be soulful, which is a great thing.
HalaluYaHUaH I loved this simply wonderful will watch again . Definitely have her back on ❗️ it’s always the right time to praise and speak on our Heavenly Father all His works are perfect . Take care of yourself Dan and keep up the great work . Shalum
I love singing gospel/traditional songs to find my real voice. So many singers wanna just be really good karaoke singers (guilty here) and sound like someone else. Since there are so many interpretations of traditional songs, you really get to play around with your voice without any concrete preconceived notion of how the song should sound. Think Christmas Songs or the Star Spangled Banner. So many great and different variations
I like both forms of songwriting. Show vs Tell. I think Southern Rock is a great fusion of Blues and Country. Paints a picture while explicitly stating how the narrator feels. (Think “One Way Out” by Allman Brothers)
Whoa! You teach contemporary worship! Have you ever worked with anyone from hillsong?! And also I'm thinking about taking a Skype lesson with you and I didn't quite understand the pricing on your website.
I have worked with many Hillsong singers over the years. You can learn all about my online singing lessons here, Elisheva - www.djarts.com.au/product/online-singing-lessons
Trying to explain Soul to my Japanese students when the closest experience I have had was Sister Act way back in the 90s has been quite difficult. I struggle in knowing which youtube videos are a good example because it seems not Soul to me, despite my not having good experience with it. I would love to try it some day, but I doubt I could pull it off in the traditional Soul-sense. Despite being an expressive speaker (part of my job XD) I find that singing wise, my voice is too...how can I say. Soft? Gentle? I fit better in Enya styles than I do hard rock or Soul. XD But I do love singing Gospel. My favorite is Amazing Grace, and it has a huge emotional impact on me. It was my father's favorite song--he always asked me to sing it. I am not much of a religious person, but I still found the gospel songs to be so powerful and moving. I love singing them. I think the personal connections are what makes the songs powerful, and most people have wonderful connections through their religious communities that allow them to make these powerful and emotive performances. I can't speak on the religious aspects, only the more mundane stuff, though XD
Michelle Arakawa .....Those songs that hold a special meaning in your heart are the ones that come across the most authentic in their presentation! This is what draws listeners in! This is what allows you to sing with “power” and conviction! Amazing Grace! How sweeeeeet the sound! Whew! What’s more beautiful than THAT! 🙏🏼
Many vocal coaches are doing reaction video. They are watching singers that their viewers recommend, and commenting on the techniques used. They use these singers to show examples of how some vocal techniques are employed. These vocal coaches get 10s of thousands of subscribers in a month or so. One of them Tara Simon Studio was given an award by UA-cam recently for achieving a certain milestones. I bet you could easily attained these achievements too. I hope you could react to my favourite singer from Kore,a Kim Sohyang. If you have not heard of her, please react to her and be blown away. She is probably the best female vocalist in the world at the moment, imho. The link can be found here: ua-cam.com/video/C6iHh4yBxCo/v-deo.html PS: You have to pause the video several times in order to give your inputs. That will hopefully circumvent the copyright issue.

Dr Dan and Dr Robinson thank you for having this deep conversation! I'm using parts of this session in my class on Authenticity this week.

I'm glad you enjoyed the video Joseph Aleman. Thanks for watching.
of course we should be respectful. There are too many rude people online, who are brave behind the anominousity

I liked Dr Trineice. It would be a pleasure spending time around her and leaning from her.
Learning, I meant.
She’s a fabulous professor and arranger!

This was sooooo great!!!! I am sorry that I missed the live stream. Please have her come back.
Hopefully, we can have her on the show again in the future...
Dr Dan, around 20:00 I think you were looking for the words "Azusa Street".
Yup. That's the one I think.
Yes ❤

@@brittneyk0158 Very true. It is that heart that gives it its strength :)
Key word “authenticity” and “culture” developed out if the historical American experience of the African- American.
