POV: You're just getting out of school. You hurry home and go into your room to log into your computer. You hit play and this opening scene starts. You have the rest of night at your disposal to spend turn by turn playing and creating memories with this game. The only question left to ask is, Can you build a civilization that will stand the test of time?
You know civilization 5 is about making a own civilization from the beginning to the end. You get other events. Maybe a country in rl is stronger then in civ 5. Idk if it is good for schools. But on the other side. they maybe know how a world can create its own civilization
Melvin Verweij "High quality" still applies, should I refer to it as "High definition" to help get my point across? In regards to it being an mp4 file: That is certainly true, for I have watched it fine via the mp4 player after noticing it in the files, once. That however does not change the fact that it is more taxing than the game itself, assuming you have a laptop, for laptop's have lower graphics cards and the game itself has little to no noteworthy graphics/animations.
Just as it has always been, when our memories of the ancient world fade into twilight, a new era dawns to fill the void, an unfamiliar path with a pulse of its own, a tempo not dictated by the labor of men, but accelerated by the rhythm of machines, launching the world into an age of bold innovation, from this cauldron of steel and sweat, a vision of prosperity emerged, harnessing the untold power of the elements, turning night into day, creating new designs that brought the world stage to the masses, and providing an experience that many had never imagined, the advent of mechanized warfare, brought devastation like none the world had ever seen, providing a window of opportunity for some to dictate conformity, as regimes spread their ideologies with a heavy hand, inciting the world to the brink of war, and yet, some chose a different path, and through their vision brought unique perspectives to the world, as singular proponents of free thinking remained, striving for peace in their endeavors to unlock the secrets of the universe, some of which would fill our hearts with fear, and regret, and as this progress unfolds, the finite nature of our world becomes clear, our survival, the survival of all the worlds peoples, depends on our ability to coexist in peace, but this peace is tenuous, although mankind will always look onward, yearning for more, searching for new boundaries, only to break through them, with the understanding, that this world is one in which we all share, comes the responsibility, of knowing the decisions you make today, will have a lasting impact on the generations of tomorrow. Best intro in my opinion.
Has anyone else noticed the opening cinematics for civ 5 has shown the different eras. The opening cinematic for the base game showed the ancient/classical era. Gods and Kings showed the medieval/renaissance era. Now Brave New World shows the industrial era along with the rest of the eras.
This scare me because of these things "Inciting the world to the brink of war" "The Finite nature of our world" "The advent of a mechanized warfare brought devastation like none the world had ever seen" "regimes spread with a heavy hand" Ect.
I wanted peace in civilization 5, always. But then greece decided too....., FUCKING TAKE OVER 3/4 STATES OF MY ALLY. So now greece is dead. And America because of attacking rotterdam.
Pascall Pandacoon There's a lot of people saying that, and a lot of people acting for that. The EU, the ONU, and a lot of organisations, engineers, searchers, scientists, and a lot more are working for a better world, it's just something very hard to accomplish.
Don't trust me, I'm crazy yeah but they have billions of dollars, primarily from the US. They've done nothing about ISIS and all the historical shit they've destroyed so far.
Beautiful! A fitting end to this glorious fifth instalment... Civilization is one series that keeps improving with each iteration. EA/Maxis, hope you are taking notes...

The opening cinematic is an integral part of any video game because it helps our imaginations fully realise the game as it was imagined. This added element makes it part of the game and not something separate.
Petition to have Atatürk as a leader in a specific era, as civ vi blundered itself with changable leaders throughout eras. Because with his vision and revelationary rules, Atatürk became the very Brave New World itself.
In some ways, this is the last of the original Civs. Civ VI had that district stuff that I still don’t quite get and the cartoon graphic. Civ VII gets rid of the gameplay entirely and moves onto something completely new.

This opening nearly brought me to tears. The awe, it's impossible to describe!
Its way better when you've grown up watching this cute end at leas 2 dozen times!

Trailer: we must coexist
Gameplay: kill them all! Take their lands!
1:11 Domination Victory
1:26 Cultural Victory
1:53 Diplomatic Victory
2:02 Science Victory
3:04 Time Victory
LOOOOL
WTF HOW DID I NEVER SEE THAT BEFORE?
LOL
The time victory was what got me
best time victory ever bro yeah
This opening was way cooler than civ 6s
This one for me, is just SO inspiring.
It is.
HoundDogBlue *For me aswell
I always feel terrible when I resort to nuclear devastation after watching that opening.
:3 Lol.
I only resort to nuclear war when america's bitching around about me not taking the path of liberty and whining like a fat 12 year old girl.
I know!
This opening gives me chills. I plan on showing it to my students in my World History class.
You know civilization 5 is about making a own civilization from the beginning to the end. You get other events. Maybe a country in rl is stronger then in civ 5. Idk if it is good for schools. But on the other side. they maybe know how a world can create its own civilization
How did that go over, showing it to them?
I think showing your students how Gandhi turns the whole game into fallout 4 in 1000ad is a good way to teach history.
omg! how did it go?!
Hey its been five years we want answer >:( pleeeaassseeeeeeeeeeee
I cant in my heart skip this opening cinematic, its just so inspiring and good
I can.. It's too laggy for my computer.
+Uknownymous End Ehh, why did you bought civ 5 then
Melvin Verweij The opening is the most high quality thing in the game, have a little think about this?
Uknownymous End you know most things in the opening is rl footage. Like the space thing. and also. CIV 5 just plays a mp4 file. How can that be laggy.
Melvin Verweij "High quality" still applies, should I refer to it as "High definition" to help get my point across?

Best intro in my opinion.
"a TEMPO not dictated by the labor of men"…
not "a TEMPLE not dictated by the labor of men"…
tempo, as in the pace of something, as in a rhythm.
Peter Jumper fixed it
Thank you, good sir.
as Einstein writes "e=mc" the narrator says "unlocking the secrets of the universe",so perfect
Best opening Cinematic ever.
Has anyone else noticed the opening cinematics for civ 5 has shown the different eras. The opening cinematic for the base game showed the ancient/classical era. Gods and Kings showed the medieval/renaissance era. Now Brave New World shows the industrial era along with the rest of the eras.
"that you decision you make today, will everlasting impact for next generation." This is the best word I've heard
This scare me because of these things
"Inciting the world to the brink of war"
"The Finite nature of our world"
"The advent of a mechanized warfare brought devastation like none the world had ever seen"
"regimes spread with a heavy hand"
Ect.
rest in peace, William Morgan Sheppard.
God. I cried
God I cried. This is beautiful
This is such a beautiful cinematic... It makes me feel bad for always destroying all the empires xD
+USSR , Russia LOL
Yup. xD,,
I wanted peace in civilization 5, always. But then greece decided too....., FUCKING TAKE OVER 3/4 STATES OF MY ALLY. So now greece is dead. And America because of attacking rotterdam.
rome is the best if you want to takeover everyone sadly. i wish russia and or other civs could be like that if you chose them 😔
this opening is a masterpiece
You don't skip this in game...you just don't
Agreed!
I always get a lump in my throat and shaky breath when he says "Some of which filled our hearts with fear and regret"
Top 5 video game openings ever.
Whoever wrote this deserves the Nobel Peace Prize.
One of the greatest opening's of all time
What a fantastic game, I've spent thousands of hours on it, and I still watch the intro fully each time I launch it.
Why didn't a president or a world leader of some sort say this instead of a video game.......
Pascall Pandacoon There's a lot of people saying that, and a lot of people acting for that. The EU, the ONU, and a lot of organisations, engineers, searchers, scientists, and a lot more are working for a better world, it's just something very hard to accomplish.
Because the U.N. is freeloading off of the U.S. economy and is giving no response to ISIS and the downing of MH17, you know, the works...
+Pascall Pandacoon When I'm running for Super-Overlord Megaking of the Universe, this will be my speech.
ItalianStallion76 Who do you think the UN are their peacekeeping force is for small conflicts, not something as big as ISIS.
Don't trust me, I'm crazy yeah but they have billions of dollars, primarily from the US. They've done nothing about ISIS and all the historical shit they've destroyed so far.
IVE WATCHED THIS LIKE 40 TIMES IN A ROW ITS SO GOOD GOD DAMN MAKE MORE OF THESE
This is the first and only time a game made me tear up in its very beginning.
one small step for man, is one giant leap for mankind.
No joke this literally inspired me to work hard and sparked my interest in math and history
I'd use this as intro to History class ngl
Beautiful! A fitting end to this glorious fifth instalment... Civilization is one series that keeps improving with each iteration. EA/Maxis, hope you are taking notes...
I can still recite it all word for word, even now
Just as it has always been...
@@TheBlaise91 When our memories of the ancient world fade into twilight...
God I just come back to civ and am reminded how much I love it
We've come a long way, you and I. What shall we accomplish tomorrow?
More relevant than ever, with current events
One of the best openings in video games
Just as it has always been, when our memories of the ancient world fade into twilight a new era dawns to fill the void, an unfamiliar path with a pulse of its own, a tempo not dictated by the labor of men but accelerated by the rhythm of machines, launching the world into an age of bold innovation. Civ6 has got to the something really extra ordinary in order to beat the amount of awesome this opening had... :D
The fact that the intro is so good just highlights how poor the victory cinematic is. :(
it is pretty hard for an opening to capture the essence of humanity, not only that but also make you feel proud of said species, despite it all
Great opening! Very emotional.
Brought a tear to my eye :')
this and the gods and kings cinematic are the best game cinematics ever made i think
The most inspirational thing ever said
damn this gives me gooosebumbs
It should be social commercial not connected with the game!
i love this game so much
Goosebumps and tears!
It's bizarre to think that the Atlas V is in the past... Nowadays it's Starship...
2022 and this game is still insuperable masterpiece
And yet, some people dare to say that video-games aren't a form of art.
The best game of the entire saga.
The opening cinematic is an integral part of any video game because it helps our imaginations fully realise the game as it was imagined. This added element makes it part of the game and not something separate.
For some reason when the cinematic plays on my computer the display goes monochrome until the loading screen
What an inspiring cinematic.
And that's why you should never go for a domination victory.
When Einstein looks at the camera, it gets me every time. I just burst into tears of joy!
One of the best graphic trailers fuc I need a movie like this in my life about different history
Damn, this is inspiring.
I nearly cry when watching this 😢
As you wait for the game to load... does anyone know the opera being sung in the background?
I want every world leader to see this ever
*Single tear flows down face* So this is definetly the last big update for Civ V :(
So cool seeing Einstein do his thing
Watched this in history class, amazing.
This is art
Nowadays the fragments showing the world congress as a highest attainment of mankind look like a bitter irony.
I did too. The part with Einstein got me.
Rip the narrator
have you ever felt proud of being human?
B-E-A-UTIFUL!!!!!
i thing we should launch a stunt with this as trading mark
Petition to have Atatürk as a leader in a specific era, as civ vi blundered itself with changable leaders throughout eras. Because with his vision and revelationary rules, Atatürk became the very Brave New World itself.
Oh I so want this dlc now
einstein is lefthanded they made em right with the write hand
Strongly inspired by that music.
Feat. One of the Georgia tech freshman students :)

Dude there was something about civ 5 man
it's a very rare case when in russian it doesn't sound worse end maybe even better than this.
Chorus:
Vidi terra novum et caelum, Sanctum civitatum.
Solo Tenor:
Vidi caelum novum, Terra novam a Deo
Primum caelum abiit, et prima terra abiit
Terra novum et caelum a Deo
Deo descendentem, a Deo.
Terra novam, caelum novum,
Novam Ierusalem, novam Ierusalem, Terra novam,
Terra novam et caelum
Afferent Gloriam honorem gentium in ilam Prima terra abiit
Terra novam et caelum et mare iam non est
Terra novam et caelum, Prima terra abiit
Terra novum et caelum
Terra novum et caelum
O gloria, gloria
Terra novam et caelum, quae prima abierunt
Terra gloria
amen.
Civ 30 or Civ 40 will probably make the Apollo program merely a world wonder with some traits and Space X will be the space race victory project.
🤮🤮
2 years later, so good. Who is the guy talking?
_BearHawk If I remember correctly, that would be Sid himself.
Leonard Nimoy, who narrated Civ 4 & 5, as well as playing Spock in the original Star Trek films.
Ending shot was reminiscent of Civ 4 opening. :P
You think that was intentional?
The prequel to Alpha Centauri. 🟩🔴🖤
What?
I love this opening
What painting is that? It's not Guernica. I keep hearing that, but it isn't.
I thought it is Guernica as well......
No, it's not Guernica, unless there's a whole section of it I haven't seen.
I think it is Guernica but they did a different design because it looks a lot like it, the design anyway.
Hmmm odd.
This is the better opening, but 6 has a far better theme
The only thing that'd make this perfect would be morgan freeman narrating it.
Your wish is about 0.01 % complet comrade
Man...Dan Bull made this so much better...
Peace on Earth? Impossible...
Not with religion.
umCallum
Muppets are true master race
wow :o
Such nostalgia
And then Gandhi ENTERED and the rest is HISTORY
Agreed
For unknow reasons, this is the only thing that lags my game. Idk why, but only the opening has a bad FPS.
Notice me Senpai its too good
Battleoid
Thank you for remembering me that i have an 1 month old save game.
I'm calling it, in 2 weeks this is the presidents speech =/.
MUSIC IS TOO LOUD
1:34
0:55 lol that's just black and white moviel
Same :)
