Hey dad, well done for giving your daughter some good tastes in music, my own daughter is of similar age and a big Queen fan but not managed to make her a Mike Oldfield fan just yet, although I do try. Have either of you listened to Rob Reeds Sanctuary albums? Good stuff if not, recommended :)
hey, commenting so fast just so you see it... you should defenetly check out T2 - "It'll all work out in Boomland" from 1970. It really is a hidden gem and so psychadelic and still has these progressive elements. I dig your videos, it's always great listening to people being fascinated by music. I am only 18 too and luckily my dad had his impact on my music taste. (I assume that goes for you too). :))
Love that album! Their unfinished second album “Fantasy” is awesome as well, it was recorded later in 1970 but never released until 1997. The production is a little subpar in places but the music is on the same level as the first album.
I am surprised about how many more people prefer "Red" over "Larks' Tongues in Aspic". My personal favorite King Crimson album is "Starless and Bible Black", if only for Fracture which I find more adventurous and satisfying than Starless. However, "Larks'" is truly the album that turned me on my head and made me aware of what was possible in music.
I was a teenager in the 70's and loved the likes of Roxy Music, Bowie, Bolan, The Who, Fleetwood Mac....I never got into prog rock at all. Now I'm in my early sixties and thanks to this video I have now (somewhat belatedly) purchased many of your Dads selections on vinyl. I have to say I'm thoroughly enjoying the prog rock masterpieces that I would never had bothered with if I hadn't watched you both on here. So, well done to the two of you and many thanks for giving me an insight into a genre that would have otherwise passed me by. I'm off to give Tarkus another spin x
Niamh, great content! It's fantastic that you've been exposed to so many old gems, and equally importantly, your knowlege of music is impressive. Thanks for all the videos!
Thanks for the love for Spirit!! Phenomenal band! Interesting history on all the members. You could do an hour long show on these guys and all the solo and previous bands they were in. Great content you two, as always!
What a great list! Niamh, your dad and I could talk music for hours. I'm a few years younger, but have many of these albums myself and love most of these artists. This video brought back a lot of memories, I love your channel and always look forward to your uploads.
It's great that one of your dad's favourite albums is Spirit's "Twelve Dreams of Dr Sardonicus." That one's a rare beauty - an art-rock/proto prog-rock classic! "Nature's Way" and "Space Child" are my favourite tracks on the album. They were one of the first bands to use a Moog synthesizer. I really like your dad's commentary on these albums - very educational.

I think what Dad isn't saying as an older gentlemen (Me Myself Also) is that favorite albums can transport an older person back in time to a certain period that only hearing a certain song or LP can do. It reminds you where you were and what you were doing, and who you were doing it with. You Will Find out Niamh. Ask your dad if i'm lying! 😎😎
Well, sir, just the fact that you listed SURF'S UP might've been enough to cement your reputation with me, but you had to go and add A WIZARD, A TRUE STAR! Todd is simply my favorite artist perhaps of all time. But then, sir, you had the nerve to add RED by King Crimson! How dare you?! (Another fine disc from 10CC...perhaps in your next installment?!) Another excellent video. Overjoyed to see What's Going On in there - masterpiece and perfectly described by your dad. Definitely agree that LA Woman is the Doors' high point. Niamh... I would love to hear about your favourite albums of the 70s.
Really enjoying your vids, guys, Niamh is a breath of frsh air compared to most people her age as regards individuality in musical taste, good for you, girl! I'm with dad on a lot of West Coast stuff and Country Rock - agree, New Riders massively underrated. Looking forward to your second half of the 70s - but where are Roxy Music? Maybe not your thing, but akin to Crimson and Bowie, I'd say. Also no Hawkwind? I'd think Niamh would like mid-70s Hawks. Also, are you guys familiar with Goblin (particularly 'Deep Red', 'Roller'), Quiet Sun ('Mainstream'), 801 ('801 Live') and to me The Stranglers should interest any open minded Prog/Psych fan, with their Love/Doors influences - plus the inspiration their sadly departed keys player Dave Greenfield drew from Wakeman and Lord, taking him to the highest level any rock keyboardist has reached IMHO. Try 'The Raven', Niam! Keep it coming, guys!
Wow! I could sit down and drink beer with your dad and discuss these forever! I own every one of the albums you discussed and agree with almost every favorite track he mentioned.
The one mildly surprising album (to me) was The Eagles "Desperado" - Only because most of the time "Hotel California" gets everybody's attention as far as the 70s Eagles records. I actually love the "Desperado" record, too. "Certain Kind of Fool" is my personal dedication to my late brother. "Twenty-one" and "Outlaw Man" were songs that, along with "Hotel California", we used to play together when were in college sitting around our dorm room.
Love your channel guys!! Can’t wait to check out the New Riders. I’m a big G.Parsons fan, so it might be up my alley. Thanks for pointing them out. Cheers. ✌️❤️🇨🇦🎸
Hello Niamh! I just your vlogs when you tell us about your records and favourite bands. I am a swedish guy approximately from the same generation as your dad and it so happens that I have several of the records you and your dad presents. Cream, Pink Floyd, Yes, King Crimson, Wishbone Ash and several others from the era late sixties, seventies and forward are among my favourites. Keep on with your videos!
Love your videos.. you are also sooo adorable, especially when you pop your head up over the albums you are holding and just showings your eyes 😊. Your Dad is very cool as well!
Your dad has such great taste in music. He hasn't pulled out an album yet that I wouldn't slap on the player in a heartbeat. I can't wait until next week!
A friend of mine was into New Riders Of The Purple Sage, Allman Brothers, Spirit, Grateful Dead etc. and I was into prog, and we introduced each other to each other’s music. I feel sorry that he didn’t start to like prog, but I did get interested into a lot of his music, and it’s nice to see it coming back in this video.
Hi Niamh. New sub from the Seattle area. Have you ever explored Seattle's grunge era in the early 90s? Nirvana's DVD of their MTV Unplugged concert is a nice starting point if your tv plays through your stereo or you have good headphones. The vinyl is great also.
You two a great to listen to and you picked a lot of great albums. It amazes me however that not one Steely Dan album is mentioned here. It took me some time to get my head around them but Countdown To Ecstacy, Pretzl Logic, Royal Scam, Aja and Goucho to me are among the best the 70th have to offer. They are such a great fusion of country rock, west coast rock, jazz, reaggae. And the contrast between the beautiful music and the horrible stories told. If you never listend to them I urg you to do so. Keep up your videos, I always make notes of what I don't know jet. greetings!
Good to see Red in there, just bought this after hearing Niamh mention it a couple of weeks ago,not played it yet, saving the first listen for when iv'e finished renovating my turntable.Good show guy's.
A day late to "Saturdays with Dad". Very enjoyable, and make them as long as you like. Totally agree with Dad on "Desperado", to me the finest Eagles effort. Saw them with Linda Rondstadt back in the '70's. What a show. Absolutely don't want to sound like I'm disappointed but am hoping for the Kinks to make the hit parade next Saturday. Thanks for another great video.
hey pop,you totally rock. I feel like I just mainlined black vinyl after watching this video. How fortunate we are to have lived in these times of the greatest music made on the planet earth. Like to talk to your friends about the "new' Tull album coming out next week and it just happened to be Aqualung!!! And then to be able to share all this with your daughter!!! Well Niamh please stop yawning during the bob dylan albums. Thanks you two for bringing some happiness to my day, from a fellow vinyl junkie , peace out

Always nice to hear your dad, his knowledge of each album and musicians is awesome! Also, I hope to pass on to my little daughter some good taste for music, as you two have.
I always folow you,you are fantastic with your presentation about prog music, which i have loved since i was 15.Dad and a great connoisseur of all music, you are also very prepared. My idols of alltime are the GENESIS, today at 63 i still continue to listen to them,i have seen their concerts in italy, and music that never tires, i love them and i send you a hug.
This video has a few things to recommend it to me. Firstly you and your Dad like alot of the same music as me. I thought I was the only person in the world who liked this stuff. Two you've got an old school hooligans t shirt on. And last of all you've got a Wassily Kandinsky picture on your wall! Whar more could you ask for, eh?!
Excellent excellent video!! I love when you mentioned klaus Shultz!! A musical genius!! Have you ever heard of listed to birth control, egg, randy pie, or nektar?
Hello Niamh. Greetings from right down the road from Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado. Love your channel and your passion for music. Elton John's Madman Across the Water and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road are both fantastic albums from the early 70's in my opinion. The title track of Madman Across the Water is a quasi-prog rock song written form the perspective of a psychopath in an asylum. Keep up the good work!
As usual I am late to this party. You and your daddy have wonderful taste in music. I think that I am close to his age and feel a kindred spirit with you. I realize that you have an ocean of prog music to go through just from the UK. If you get around to it, I have an Italian prog band to recommend known to more conventional prog fans is P.FM. . It is abbreviated from 3 Italian names that are too long for me to remember. The closest band for comparison is probably early Genesis, but different. Great band to delve into. Another band not known to most westerners is an all female Japanese band that came out in the early 80s called Arse Nova. They are very influenced by ELP which of course means out standing keyboard playing and overall musicianship. Also a book to recommend for dad is an a semi autobiography by Bill Graham Presents. It is a fascinating read abou a man who lived more different and amazing lives than any rock star. You will also read the words from Bill his crew and many of the artists who played at the legendary Fillmore Ballrooms as well as Winterland. You will also read about first hand accounts of the musicians, crew, and Bill himself about those wonderful nights that the classic live albums were recorded. Ok, this old guy is finished meandering on. Sorry about that. Again, another cracking video, well done. Cheers.
It's good to see you included Tangerine Dream on your list. I love that band. "Rubycon" is my favorite album of theirs(probably tied with the "Sorcerer" soundtrack) but Phaedra is a breakthrough masterpiece of electronic music.
Hey, I really enjoy your videos. Wondering if you could do a show on the more underground and obscure 70s Prog bands and albums. I'd like to really get to know more of them myself. Thanks!
Wow... exactly like your dad, I think Selling England is Genesis's finest but have a much closer emotional bond with Nursery Cryme. It was my gateway into the band.
Does Dad like any electronica of the era ? That period was my favorite of that genre with Kraftwerk, Klaus Shulze , Jean Michel Jarre and Tangerine Dream being among my favorites. Enjoying your videos !

Thanks you two for bringing some happiness to my day, from a fellow vinyl junkie , peace out
Great video, Niamh. Really interesting to hear two different age groups views on the same subject. Keep up the good work👍
Awesome...... excellent choices excellent taste you rock bro..... these are indeed most of my favs in this time period as well .
So pleased that your dad picked 'Tubular Bells'! Incredible record
Another great video!!! You and you dad are fun to watch and listen to! American Beauty by the GD is a classic! Black Sabbath first album is definitely groundbreaking. Amazon first album
Yaaaaaaaaaay!😁 Always great with Pop. Long? Not even close. Your dad's shirt collection should have its own channel. Peace and contentment all your days. Thanks
Loving these videos guys, keep it up. Loving a bit of Zappa in there
Always nice to hear your dad, his knowledge of each album and musicians is awesome! Also, I hope to pass on to my little daughter some good taste for music, as you two have.
Great video. You and your father has great music taste. I love most of the records, aspecially the Can-Tago Mago. Love it!
Every selection I could have made myself. Excellent!
Love this I'm a child of the 70s well a teenager and fetches back so many memories David Bowie ziggy stardust awesome! Keep it coming!!
Once again, dad's choices are 100% spot on! A man of great taste
Very good review and mix of groups. Keep up the good work!
Oh my have you been looking at at my album collection lol so many good choices there.
Great list! I feel like me and your dad could have hung out together in the 70s. We like a lot of the same stuff.
Hey, I really enjoy your videos. Wondering if you could do a show on the more underground and obscure 70s Prog bands and albums. I'd like to really get to know more of them myself. Thanks!
Love Saturday’s with Dad!
Yes one of my all time favorite albums .steve wilson did a beautiful job remixing this album ,Aqualung .awesome 😊😊😊
12 Dreams by Spirit...astonishing 😲 So unique.. so good
So much goodness, I was so happy to see the inclusion of Todd Rundgren’s masterpiece which was a failure critically.
Great taste in albums!!! Big smile on my face...im in the old mans age group....
I would include Nick drake, john martyn, shelagh mcdonald and jimmie spheeris all 4 are underated.
But your Dad didn't mention any Gentle Giant's album :/ Maybe one of their swan-song 75-77 albums in next video?
Niamh's brandished a copy of 'Octopus' in one of her other clips, great stuff. The 5.1 version is amazing too, one of the best BRA discs out there.
Wow... exactly like your dad, I think Selling England is Genesis's finest but have a much closer emotional bond with Nursery Cryme. It was my gateway into the band.
Wonderful ! What a knowledge! Thank you for that. That was cool listen !
Enjoyed listening to your Dad, Lok forward to next Saturday. What's he called Niamh?
Peter!
@@the_prog_nerd The name of my Son! Look forward to next Saturday! Thanks Niamh!
Does Dad like any electronica of the era ? That period was my favorite of that genre with Kraftwerk, Klaus Shulze , Jean Michel Jarre and Tangerine Dream being among my favorites. Enjoying your videos !
