The C8 Z06 had a passenger, the GT500 didn't. They had the passenger change seats and the Z06 pulled away much better than the GT500 did here

The GT500 also has a higher power to weight ratio despite being heavier and it has 3x less drag. At 150mph the Z06 is already making over 700lbs of downforce with its Z07 wing alone

I love mine, and I added a JLT cold air intake and it raised the rwhp 35hp. Significant difference.

You’re witnessing the greatest time in American muscle / sports car history. This is truly the golden age of cars. I never thought I’d see 600-700hp cars be as well engineered as they are. You can daily drive both of these monster apex predators sedately as kittens, or uncork them and let the beast out. GT500 sounds GLORIOUS.

@@Itslexii43 actually, the z06’s MSRP is $106,395. You can’t hold the car responsible for the resell value and markups. That would make it only $20k more than the gt500 out of the factory. (not quite since ford needs to outsource a whole performance company in order to make it so out of two*)
You’re failing to realize that money is the consumers problem and not the automakers problem. If that were the case everyone could argue who spent what to compensate for their empty wallets when they lose or win.
Point being, this is “ford’s” fastest production vehicle (the GT actually is but it practically almost loses anyways) almost losing to a 2nd to bottom trim naturally aspirated V8 in what it’s best at. A straight line. The corvette beats the gt500 in every single other situation behind the wheel other than when ur above 160mph. There’s still a twin turbo v8 corvette coming out next year along with the hybrid power train variant in 2025-2026 that will take care of the demon 170 as well (and still be able to make a corner).
Ford isn’t even in the same world as GM in the performance scene anymore. GM is now competing with European super cars leaving both of the other companies behind.
If you still want to argue about price I could buy an 80-90’s civic or with a spoon and 15k under the hood with a 1400hp rated 4 or 5 speed and annihilate both of these cars but we don’t talk about that do we? What about getting a bike? That’s much cheaper.

That vette is truly a work of art… doesn’t even need a supercharger like the mustang and it was neck and neck

Guy, by it being mid-engine, it allows them to reduce the frontal area which significanly effects aerodynamics at top speeds like this. Besides, the Corvette is 500lbs ligther than the GT500. @@THExKINGxKINGx

I would unfortunately say that chevy is more genius on this one, they didn't need to slap a massive supercharger on a regular old v8 to make it fast, they constructed a brand new no forced induction engine that can keep up with cars like the shelby that rely on superchargers. Wait for the Zr1, and a lot of cars are going to be beaten very badly.

@Johnathan Leonardo putting the engine in the back isn't the impressive part. It's making the most powerful naturally aspirated v8 of all time and going 0-60 in 2.6 seconds. It is definitely a supercar, btw, everyone agrees with that. What is one reason that it isn't a supercar.

I would want to spend time with one before buying it. Videos are hard to tell. I had a ‘22 GT4 and everyone talked about over axle pipes make it amazing … it was louder but had a weird sound quality change that I didn’t love. Glad you’re enjoying it!

Why are you basing the prices off just the roll race? They had multiple roll races and which ever car had the camera man in the passenger seat lost. Only thing the gt500 can even compete against the z06 is roll race. If that's all you care about save your money, buy a beater and put a few grand in the engine.

Seen the original video, whoever had the passenger lost. the passenger was the cameraman and he switched from the Stang to the Vette. Without a passenger both cars are dead even, would depend on whoever got the jump.

The Z same scenario....320lbs extra on top of the 3550 - 3600lb curb weight, we're looking at around 3800lbs! Last I checked, 4500 - 3800 = 700!! So you think the Z06 was handicapped??🤔

I’m a ford guy, love mustangs, but I gotta say that vette is very sleek lookin.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Chevy came back with a supercharged version of this current flat plane crank 5.5L, to put into a future ZO6.
Honestly the gt500 almost has an unfair advantage here. I say this because it’s the supercharged version of the predator 5.2L out of the gt350, which like the vette, is also a high revving flat plane engine.
Just because the vette is quite a bit lighter, doesn’t really matter since it’s a roll race. Weight has more of an affect on a car in a drag race, when the car is starting from a dead stop.
The gt500 is an awesome car but like most muscle cars(Camaro, charger, challenger) has trouble getting off the line quickly whereas cars like the vette, bmw, Porsche get off the line very quick.
Great job to ford for finally beating the z06, at the end of the day a “lowly” mustang won the race 😁

@@aniswoner0825 It is impressive, but you gotta think: The GT500 is 700-800 pounds heavier, and the corvette has no loss of power to the wheels. The GT500 loses 76-115HP by the time the power gets to the wheels.
Everyone going on about these 2 going at it. The corvette is targeting the McLarens and Ferraris, the GT500 is against it's rival and 2 cruise ships but these are the last 2 Americans studs we got left. Enjoy them

Finally a stock Shelby that can hang with a stock z06. I remember in 2003 the z06 c5 was nutty wtf fast compared to the competition.
Interesting note also is the Z06 has the carbon wheel package and this GT500 does not.

The new GT500 is just insane perfect engineering. Bout as far as they can go with the Mustang performance wise without adding power and especially making a lighter platform. With modern safety equipment though, cars are only getting heavier. God bless those brakes

@@Itslexii43 there are multiple trims of Corvettes both now and coming out in the next year that have ranged from 420hp to 750hp and the Zora will be the Z06 with electric motors in front and back. Additionally the Corvette has never needed 800 hp to beat mustang they aren't in the same class.

That Shelby GT500 is a monster with that 760 horsepower supercharged under the hood. But that vette is very impressive with that 670 horsepower flat plane crank V8 with no supercharger or no turbocharger. That saying a lot about that vette keeping up with that supercharged GT500. I love both cars. European car better watch their backs. Lol!

Also the Z06 weighs 3,670lbs while this GT500 weighs 4,050lbs so it's less than a 400lb difference, or rather a sub 200lb difference in this video. Kinda funny how the Z06 is faster despite having 90hp less and way less torque. Needs a 200lb man in the passenger seat just for the GT500 to slowly creep forward. That's not even counting the massive drag the track aero makes that acts like a parachute

@@Dom2.0 even with 640 WHP vs 610 HWP, with the passanger this Z06 has the same 5.5lbs per HP that the GT500 has and 155 ft.lbs less torque. I would guess 700 SAE HP and 470 ft.lbs of torque for the C8 Z06.

Power to weight is key here. Also aerodynamics plays a huge factor at high speed. The fact that the stang beat the Vette is impressive even more.

I'm a Ford man all my life but gotta say the new Vett is nice.....
I wonder if most people know the Z06 is N/A while making 670 from the crank and the gt500 makes 760 to the crank S/C. Even with weight being an issue the gt500 makes up with its power and being able to create its own "ATM" of air to the engine while the Corvette is where its elevation is at. So in hand the gt500 will have the advantage at higher Rpms. The Z06 isn't forced induction so making power at high Rpms plummets when the intake and motor can't achieve any denser air into the motor. Overall amazing cars but definitely different territories. On a track is where you'll see the true difference between them both.

Z06 will sound a lot better but that GT500 got power!
Gearing helped the gt500, if the z06 (provided it's actually a z06) had better top end gearing (since they're track built) it would of been a different story. Love both cars!
