- Kyle Dean Massey performs at Broadway in Bryant Park, on August 6 2009 in New York City! This song is called 'I'm Alive' and Gabe asserts his presence to his mother in it. Next to Normal is currently playing at the Booth Theatre on Broadway. It stars Alice Ripley (Best Actress for her role), J. Robert Spencer, Aaron Tveit & Kyle Dean Massey, Jennifer Damiano, Adam Chanler-Berat and Louis Hobson. Next to Normal is Broadway's newest hit musical! N2N!
bottom line: anyone who can sing this song, and NOT sound terrible is amazing.

I just saw Kyle on Thursday and he totally blew this through the roof. I was amazed by how much power he has behind his voice. There's something to be said for seeing him live. He's absolutely fantastic and incredible. If there was anyone on Broadway to replace Aaron, Kyle was definitely it.
I like that he does his own thing with it.
I saw him Friday night. One of the best voices I've ever heard!! Amazing show!!
Kyle all the way! I've seen him live and after listening to the sound track it just isn't the same. He puts so much more feeling and energy into it!
I saw this show last Sunday, it was so good! gave me goosebumps all over my body. Go see it now, Marin Mazzie and Jason Danieley are so great on stage together! Also, Kyle does one hell of an amazing job, he's so talented and really nails the performance! best show ever!

i saw this last night! He is so far beyond amazing, i could barely handle it!
This video, along with other videos of him, do him no justice. i saw him over the summer when he took over the role when aaron was gone, and he was amazing, especially during this song. if you get to see him in the show, you will see how he fits the character really well.
It is never fair to compare someone to the original, especially when the original is aaron. Kyle makes the part his own and he has a different kind of voice. IMHO, he is great.

so i saw it with aaron (awesome) and my friend recently saw it with kyle and she said that this wasn't that great of a musical so i definitely think that aaron makes it the world's best musical. of course, i sound like a dying walrus anytime i sing, so i will say that kyle is pretty good

I haven't seen this live (yet, hoping to), but I've watched enough videos to say that Kyle Dean is practically Aaron's twin. Yes, he may a bit of a lisp here, but that could be the microphone, outdoor setting, and the video camera. Listening to audio from Just Another Day he sounded like he was really into the charater. I'd love to see him as Gabe, but honestly, I'd be happy just to see this at all.

I'm glad to have just bought tix to see Aaron before he leaves, Kyle is still awesome but Aaron will never be topped as Gabe.
I saw the show with a friend two weeks ago and he had no idea that it wasn't Aaron Tveit. He didn't really know any of the cast's names before we went in and he was shocked after the show when he found out it wasn't the guy on the cast recording.
oh god he is super cute AND amazing... he and Aaron are on par with eachother. i honestly don't think either is better.

@hugoarr12 I don't know if anyone has answered you but it is Curt Hansen. He was Kyle's understudy I believe. He is ok, but I didnt particularly love him. I personally think Aaron and Kyle are both better but some people like him a lot. But the show as a whole was like the greatest experience of my life haha. So ridiculously incredible.

@TheChance17 I HATE people like this. A role is for each actor to make their own, people leave shows get over it. Just leave watching musicals if you think that way because shows mold and change in many different ways and the last thing Broadway needs is more people like this.

Kyle's great, but I think Aaron is beyond amazing. No one can ever play Gabe like Aaron. But I think if we knew nothing about Aaron playing the role of Gabe, we would think Kyle is fantastic.

Good performance, but I have to join w/ the majority here in saying that I appreciate Aaron better, not for any particular technical or interpretational difference, but because Aaron makes singing seem effortless. I can hear Kyle working to sing properly, with Aaron, it just flows out of his mouth. It is not at all Kyle's fault that he has to succeed a god of musical theatre, and I think he does a wonderful job, but Aaron will forever be my fave
@Lcthero Two people with the same name- I got confused too at first! I guess that's why Kyle performs with his full name! I usually just say "kyle dean" when I'm talking to people though.

I like it. definitely not Aaron but a fun take on the character, seems almost a little more sly instead of forceful in his attempts to take over her mind. A fine alternative to Aaron in order to allow Aaron to work on CMIYC
I always thought that part was a bit awkward, but I just figured that he was still getting used to teh show/part.

i actually really like Kyle Dean Massey as Gabe. His voice is more youthful than Aaron's. Aaron is amazingly talented but he is more matured, Kyle Dean Massey is more believable as an 18 yr old character.
Agree. They have the same haircut, Aaron just has gel in it sometimes.
Okay, I LOVE this guy as Gabe, but he seems a bit old for the role. Aaron had a bit more of a younger appearance and voice, which is why alot of people like him better. But I think they are both absolutely amazing!

I like Kyle's voice a lot. I've actually seen him in the role... However in this video... he goes off pitch a few times, it might just be from singing outside tho, thats tough sometimes
I prefer Aaron's voice. He does well...but, each to their own.

I have to say, although he's talented I think Aaron's version is so much better..personally I find his voice quite nasally whereas Aaron's has a fuller sound to it which I think suits the role of Gabe better

Oh I think Kyle is very good, but the lisp keeps getting in my way. I had a friend see him who said he was wonderful, but I've just finished watching the OBC and I think Aaron is AMAZING.

In Kyle's defense, he sang much better on Broadway. Nonetheless, I was disappointed not to see Aaron. Clearly Aaron sings the role better, I don't really think it's disputed...
Kyle is still incredibly talented. He just doesn't convey as much emotion with his voice, imo.
I think he stays in key a lot better than Aaron honestly.
I saw Kyle when I went to see Next To Normal. I don't think I like him as much as Aaron. Kyle's not bad or anything. His voice is just too high. I've been listening to the cd on replay, so I lean more towards Aaron.

A gay guy shouldn't play this character for 1, and 2, he COMPLETELY BOMBS the first key change. He goes into the second one and realizes he effed up and corrects himself. Unacceptable for a professional of his caliber.
@bradsox95 This isn't his best performance. I've seen him twice as as Gabe in N2N and they were both better than this. He's better on stage.
I've heard Aaron, but I personally prefer Kyle. They're both good and equal in my opinion, but I lean more towards Kyle.

i saw the show with both kyle and Aaron and and although kyle did great he wasn't even close to Aaron. Aaron made me "hate" gabe when kyle just made me dislike him. Also Aarons voice is much better.
He can stay on pitch so he's already a step ahead of Aaron...
