Agreed. I love my Speed Goat III shoes, never had a problem with slippage, or rolling ankles. I run the crap out of these things 8-10 miles a day. Probably 400 miles on them, tread starting to wear down on outside ball side. I am trail runner only, lots of rocks out here on the trails in Southern California, lots of downhills and uphills, this shoe I can run in w/o feet hurting. Love them. I will buy another pair soon. You are spot on - great review.

Omar Izhar Bajwa Hi Omar The Speedgoat would definitely cross over trail and road just fine! The shoe is super comfortable on the road and really grippy on the trails. Not sure about a treadmill though? To be fair there’s not many trail shoes that will run well on a treadmill!! The rubber on the Speedgoat is so grippy it sticks to the treadmill a bit to much! I tried on a pair last weekend alongside my current SG 2 and was impressed. There does seem to be a bit more cushion in the 3s and the overall fit is slightly better. Possibly a bit more room in the toe box. I love the 2s and have a few pair of them and will be getting a pair of 3 at some point. I’ve been wearing the 2s in the winter on snow covered roads and love the traction of the megagrip to the point where I’ve only opted for yak trax a few times this winter, I know one shouldn’t wear trail shoes on roads in spring and summer but I’m tempted to as the comfort is much better than in any of my road shoes

I would say that in rating shoes there should be other categories or considerations. How cool running is the shoe? What kind of fit does the shoe have? Does the shoe have a snappy response? These are things that are of interest to people.
Great review. I have 2 pairs of the Speedgoat 2, and while the outer portion of the upper on both busted open on both sides of the toebox before 80 miles, they have hardly deteriorated at all since. I've got over 500 miles on the first pair and they still feel great. I'll definitely get the new ones when they wear out.
I just picked up a pair and had my first run in them (10 miles). In my mind, the biggest drawbacks are that the shoe is heavy and feels heavy. It's pretty bulky and clunky. I do like the comfort and cushion. Hoping to get a lot of miles out of them.

My first Hoka! So far just a few miles in them, but they are super comfortable. I feel like a “super runner” in them. Feels like my running technique improved running in the Speedgoat 3! On the down side...the don’t grip on ice...I can tell. 😀⚡️ Love to take them out on the trails as soon as the ice and snow is gone.

Tried the Arahi on in the store the other day. Maybe it is an option? The felt a little higher, a little more drop. HOKA says 5 mm, but I am not sure about that. Read at Runner’s world.com about 6,5 mm, I think that’s more likely. I prefer 4 mm.

I too wish they didn't raise the weight, but glad they fixed the issue with the blow-outs on the side of the ball of my foot. That sucked. I am still running in a pair of 2s with the blow out, and worn tread, still love them, but it's time for a new pair.

Good review cheers. I never bought the SG1 simply because of that medial last issue forcing your feet over plus it was stupid-narrow. I couldn't wait for the SG2 to come out and bought the same colour you have. But like you and many other SG2 users, split between those toe box overlays within 100km. I have persisted with them though and have ran a few ultras in them, including the Eryri 50 (Snowdonia 50 (58 miles) and they gave me a 6th place in comfort. So now they have 500km on them and they do get a beating living here in Northern Snowdonia, but yes, durability is pants. I may buy another set of SG2 in the updated colourway before plumping for the SG3, simply because they can be found cheaper. Generally, in the past couple of years, Hoka have really improved in upper durability, for example, I'm on my second pair of Hoka Torrent as my first pair did 750km in the Welsh mountains before finally succumbing: this shoe was a much needed 'replacement' over the Speed Instinct that had shocking durability. The Challenger ATR3 upper was poor too, but the ATR4 is fantastic. So, I think they are listening to customers finally....which is great , as I want to stay loyal to them!

Yup, my pair of SG2 started breaking apart on the top perhaps 300K in. I figured I ripped the mesh on some pokey plants until I saw this video. Just got a pair of the SG3s, hopefully they will last a little longer

I have these shoes and they were my first trail shoes ever... really loved them over here in the UK but I am going home, Mauritania north-west Africa, in summer. So basically very dry and hot weather and the ground is very compact. So would you say It would perform well? Also any suggestions for socks for the conditions stated above?

Good review. A somewhat fan myself of the speedgoat, even though the durability is/was an issue. I run in the mountains of Corsica, and my impression is that the lugs on the backsole come unglued when running on the rocks downhill. Happened for me on the challenger 4 (early) and now on the speedgoat 2 (later but still too early). I still think they are good shoes and have qualities that the other brands do not have. How are the 3 fitting?

Would really appreciate your recommendation. I am extremely new to trails and for the past month I have been walking around local trails to suss out what I have around me. I figured my NB minimus trainers aren't going to be the greatest for it as my feet do take some punishment. I am looking for a trail shoe that would be great for your runs from anywhere from 30 minutes to 60 minutes and eventually even up to 2 hours. So far with my own research I have come across the speedgoats and Nike Kiger 5. What are some shoes would you recommend? Important to note that I have a wider foot.
Hi Mick Thanks for watching the channel! Welcome to the world of trail running 😀 If you feel you’re wide in foot shape I’d give the Speedgoat a miss it’s pretty narrow! The kiger is definitely wider. The best option is always to go to a shop if you can and try as many different makes on as possible! If you can’t do that I’d check out Inov8 and Altras they are both pretty wide in the forefoot. Also Altras are zero drop so you might like that because you run in NB minimus. Hope this helps you out 😀

Hi there The Speedgoat 3 is a pretty stable trail shoe so it should be fine for that sort of distance on the road. As far as wear, you’ll obviously wear the outsole quicker using the shoe on the road as well. Hi Eric They are both good shoes and the Evo Mafate is a lot better than the standard Mafate but I’ve tried both and I definitely prefer the Speedgoat 😀 Its way more responsive, the Mafate feels a bit stiffer and flatter to run in. How does the narrowness of the speedgoat 3 compare to the speedgoat 2? Same sort of fit? I run only in the speedgoat 2s

i have to run 3km on concrete before reaching the trail.can i wear them on concrete and don't get abrasion and stability issues?

The Speedgoat 3 is a pretty stable trail shoe so it should be fine for that sort of distance on the road.
As far as wear, you’ll obviously wear the outsole quicker using the shoe on the road as well. The Vibram rubber is pretty good but the road will eat into it 👍🏻

If you mean Bondi or Speedgoat it really depends on where you running? The Bondi is a road shoe and the Speedgoat is a trail shoe. Both great shoes though 😀

You certainly could! I’ve done several 100 milers in them, it’s a great shoe for distance 👍🏻
Super grippy rubber out sole and lots of cushioning, so it handlers all kind of terrains really well 😀

Has anyone compared the Speedgoat3 to the Evo Mafate? I am having a hard time deciding
Hi Eric
They are both good shoes and the Evo Mafate is a lot better than the standard Mafate but I’ve tried both and I definitely prefer the Speedgoat 😀
Its way more responsive, the Mafate feels a bit stiffer and flatter to run in.
Also the Speedgoat is cheaper!

@@RustyShacklefourd again I'd go for the Torrent 👍 It's a really solid shoe and super popular. It's a little bit wider in to toe box than the SG's. Also it's not as soft as the SG so you do get a bit more ground feel. It's a really good allrounder 😊
