I played this for what felt like years as a child. Never did beat it. My nostalgia has this game being epic and long. I can’t believe the entire game is under an hour.
As a child you had to experiment a lot more and you didn't understand everything. This game also has branching paths to a degree (you can safely escort Hen Wen, or she can get kidnapped and you go after her and save her). You can get into the fair folks' hideout in at least two ways. I think because you never got the password if you didn't deliver Hen Wen properly? There are multiple ways to get into the castle, multiple ways to get down to the catacombs where the princess is, multiple endings... Very complex for a game of this time period, especially for a game literally made for children.
Thank you! With a game like this when there's only so many things to do to earn points sometimes I scratch my head at the end wondering what I could have missed.
@@LetsPlayWithBrigands you’re welcome! I think the rocks in the river by the waterfall or the next screen over to the left of that one also move and go down for something else but I don’t remember how or what for. Also there’s a haunted tree that you can walk into that takes you somewhere else.
@@brooke86 The rocks are the entrance to the Fair Folks' hideout (there are two ways in). If you let Hen Wen get kidnapped, and then go rescue her, she runs off once she's outside the castle. You then see pig footsteps near those rocks. Jump to the last one and a whirlpool appears and sucks you down into their hideout. You never get the password this way. You can get 230/230 points playing this way as well. I just played through the game like this because of course I'd never let Hen Wen get captured before, and assumed this was the incorrect path, but apparently it works fine. There are multiple ways to do a lot of stuff in this game. I don't know about the tree though.
I always beat the game with Gurgi jumping into the cauldron. Then the witches trade Gurgi for the cauldron and bring him back to life. I didn't know you could use the mirror to kill the horned king. Learning something new everyday
Same here until I got older so unfortunately my childhood was very dark in that respect. I thought the only two roads were sacrifice yourself or Gurgi.
I was looking for something chill to watch, then I remembered playing this and was like let me search for a let's play and boom! I picked this channel, no obnoxious commentary trying to be overly funny, I am enjoying this video and I subbed, btw have you played an old adventure game on DOS called Plague Of The Moon? Its about a which, man that game creeped me out when I was younger, it's obscure, not much mention of it or info, just a shareware version.
Thanks Gian, I appreciate it! Regarding Plague of the Moon, haven't heard of it but I added it to my todo list. Someone just requested something else that looked good recently I hadn't heard of before and I'm doing it during my weekly classic game live stream this coming Tuesday, so I'll definitely check out PotM soon.
I was "not allowed" to see the movie as a kid. I had this game, but having never seen the movie i was so lost. Not the slightest clue as a 8 yearold what the heck i was supposed to do, lol. But i was great at Kings Quest!
I had the game but never watched the movie. I read all the books after getting into this game, and I was even Taran for Halloween one year (nobody at all knew who i was supposed to be). Somehow I never wanted to see the movie. Not like i wouldn't watch it i just never had the desire despite seeking out other media. Not sure why. Anyway I found the game very easy to get into despite not seeing the movie.
I played this when I was like 10 years old. I’m from Finland so my english was soooo bad… All I was able to do is bring big to the treehouse to the ferry… I did not see the movie so I had no idea what to do… Yeah, I agree that the game back the was really scary… 🙈
KQ2 and beyond creatures could be in multi screens, There's a lot o advertising in KQ2 sign on trees. Edge of the screen trick. Great for avoiding all enemies. You said you were in a band. What instrument/s do you play? Could you play the lute? Theres look too. You forgot look. :)
Sierra will always hold a special place in my heart. thanks for this. I enjoyed it.
Thank you Jebanisa!

I know what you mean. So many of those games felt like mountains back in the day, but if you know exactly what you're doing, they're pretty efficient.
Exactly how I feel about the NES games I played as a kid.

A few of the missing points… you have to get the gruel at the cottage. I used to give that to hen wen. I always loved this game growing up ❤

you're master of saving!
It's been driven into me after dozens of adventure games over the years ha. Save early, save often.

Glad it wasn't just me that got scary vibes from this game!

Isn't there a food wallet under the bridge?
Yep, I pick it up at 26:37 after walking by it a few times like a doof.
I played in 87.
He didn't even seem to know the "Magic Food Wallet" under the small bridge.... shame on you!
The one I get at 26:30? I love the food wallet!
