I've had my locs for 12 years. I cut them into a cute bobbed style like 5.5 years ago then colored them a year after. The bleach killed my hair. It looked so bad that I was going to cut them off. So glad I didn't and just focused on moisture. They are looking, feeling and are super healthy now. They're not as long as they could've been but I love them and know they will be super long real soon.
Woww! 12 years is a long time!! That bleach ain’t no joke! That’s one of the main reasons why I’m just staying away from coloring my locs. I totally understand!
How many locs do you have if you don’t mind me asking?! Your locs are beautiful and I’m a finer hair girl coming to realization that I may need more locs than I would like!
Thank you for sharing! You and your locks are beautiful! In your video when you shared how you retwist your hair, I have similar issues with the locks around the front line and issues with stray strands of hair weaving themselves in a neighboring lock. It was so helpful to see how you dealt with those issues (I never thought of braiding those long loose strands of hair to a lock. I always retwist them to the neighboring lock and in a week or less they are back out doing their thang!). Thanks again and looking forward to your next video! Peace & Sunflowers
Thank you so much!!🤗 I’m so glad my video was helpful for you🙌🏾. Yesss….exactly what you said was happening to me too. That braiding method is my favorite so far.
Thank you for dropping these tips. When I first started my loc journey, I was so excited I could not wait for them to grow out. I totally agree with you. A healthy regimen and time will hopefully give you the results you're looking for. Your loc curls are gorgeous and healthy. Off the subject, your lipstick is fire! And it matches your shirt.
Awww thank you so much and you’re so welcome!!😘🤗 Yesss indeed!! Oh yeah that was somewhat of an accident lol. I ended up layering 2 liquid lipsticks and together they matched my purple in my shirt. 💜
Hey Dawn Elle... as a newly locd sister, I can never hear these tips and advice too many times. I do think I need to check myself into therapy for the hands in the hair syndrome. I have it soooo bad! I love my hair so much... it was never this soft and luscious as a loose natural. And I was loose natural since 2004! My hair was always so dry and brittle. No matter how many thousands of dollars i spent on the latest and greatest product guaranteed to give you soft curly tresses. Now it is amazing that only water and my coconut/almond oil mix creates such softness and an overall amazing smell and feeling in my hair. Thanks for sharing! Looking great as always!😍
Hi! 👋🏾👋🏾 I totally understand! Your just really loving your hair and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. Maybe try wearing a turban or headwrap to help keep your hands out of it. 😉 Yesss!! It so funny how the simplest ingredients do better for our hair than the ones we used as loose naturals.
Thank you for sharing.🙏🏾 My locs are growing so fast however I'm torn between cutting and restarting them because I feel I started them on thin damage hair with two strand twist so they don't look the way I want them too. I have medium thick 3c hair and wanted a thicker more cylindrical loc (I'm sure I'm overthinking it). AND the loose hair growing away from my locs is insane. 🙄 I'm torn between cutting and restarting with comb coils or just going loose natural again. I love having locs though. 😫😭 Sorry for the rant. 🤣
You’re so welcome!!🤗😘 Ahhh I know what you mean. I just had a conversation with someone who was saying something similar. I think whatever you decide should be what your heart wants for real for real.
Yay, new vid! I don’t twist, but I have hand in hair syndrome! I can’t stop TOUCHING the roots, and I know that’s bad. I’m going to try to do better…and with drinking more water…and also letting my bleach grow out…so I’m on my way to Dawn Elle level locs, just give me a few years lol. I love your top and lipstick and of course your locs are looking luscious as ever 🥰
🤗 Aww thank you!! Ohh Yeahhh that hand in hair syndrome is no joke. That was me when my hair was loose natural lol. Don’t worry Sis your locs will be there in no time!🙌🏾
I agree with just about everything you said but a lot of time people don't talk about this is called genetics you can 5 women do a TWA take care of head same way but three of them hair will not grow as fast as the other two I'm not debating what you're saying sometimes it's just genetics that some people hair grows crazy but others don't and I don't care what you put in it and what you do sometimes we need to love what God gave us and Just Go With It
I totally agree with you! 🙌🏾 I think a persons natural curl pattern plays a roll too. I remember I had a friend with straight hair and she would cut hers twice and it would grow back to its long length while mine only grew like two inches lol.
In the starter loc stage I retwisted my locs once a week as I washed my hair once a week. I did this for the first 3 months. At the 3 month mark my roots started to loc so I reduced my retwisting to once every 2 weeks. Then, by the time I was 1 year and 2 months locd I reduced it to once every month (mainly bc I had a newborn and didn’t have the time to do it sooner). I also began to embrace the frizz so eventually I began retwisting once every 2 months (that’s my current routine). Sometimes I’d only lightly retwist the first row of my locs at the hairline in between the 2 months time. Not every 5 minutes lol meaning not every time you see a strand of hair out of place or frizz. If a person prefers a “perfect” looking scalp with zero frizz then that is their choice but I wouldn’t recommend it as over manipulation can cause thinning at the roots. All of this depends on the persons hair texture/density as well. My hair is soft and fine and most of my new growth grows away from my locs instead of with my locs. This is what really drives me to retwist bc the loose hairs become meshed and tangled and that actually hurts my scalp. I hope this helps and you’re so welcome☺️.
@@itsDawnElle Wow- this helps tremendously!!!! Thank you for the details and for sharing your journey! Your locs are SO beautiful and look very healthy. Congrats on achieving that. 💙

I'm glad I found this video because I was told I am treating my locs wrong I just need to water them and let them go
Aww I’m glad you find this video too! 🤗 Water from the inside and out, along with patience will take your locs a long way.

@@itsDawnElle lol thank you! Yeah, I don’t know why it’s so bad with my locs. Maybe since they’re still new (13 mos).
Yes I need to be more patient
😊 Yes , be patient and try not to focus on the growth and next thing you know they’ll grow out of nowhere.

May I ask how often you retwisted at the starter stage? What does not every five minutes really mean in real time? Thanks for answering our questions!

😂🤣 I was thirsty for real lol
Coloring my hair damaged my locs
Aww man I’m sorry about that!! 🤦🏽♀️ Colors look so nice but they do more damage than good. 😒
I’m definitely not patient 😂😂😂
🤣😂🤣
Guilty!!!! Immediately will leave my head alone. Its become a habit to sit and twist. And I don't oil enough.
No worries Sis! ☺️ Now you recognized that you do that and will make an effort to stop which will do your locs done good.
You have Beyonce curls!!! But better
Aww thank you so much!! You are too kind!!😘🤗
