In a way I hated to see that much fatwood used for one fire, as I know how little it actually takes to start a fire. I have a box full of fatwood a couple of years old, and it still works great. I know I can go to the woods tomorrow and get another box full, but still have this feeling it would be a waste to make a fire with all fatwood. LOL I think I am addicted. I loved your video. As long as fatwood is left in stick form it will work. Scrapings will dry up and lose it's magic. I don't know why, but it does. Thanks for sharing.
Others have let me know, less kindly than you, that they feel the same way. To me, this renewable resource was put to good use in the experiment. I learned about the intensity of that much fatwood, duration of burn, effect of that much heat on the metal I have covering my work table, and now, if I ever needed tp, I could make an awesome torch out of the stuff. A very satisfying, valuable, and useful experiment. Thanks for watching.
I never thought about it, but I can see how fatwood makes for a good bearing block since it is so hard (less friction). Thanks for the new tip. Always something to learn isn't there!
The Mrs. and I went out to our property on Dec. 19th and had a nice fatwood fire in the fire pit. Man, I tell you it was nice and warm! Lotsa black smoke and big hot flame too!
This tag is from John Capps. He wanted me to show how I get my Fat Wood Fix. See the LINK to his humorous "Fix" video below. I thought this would be a good time to get rid of all that dried up fat wood I've had sitting around for years. John's already sent me a big chunk of fresh and potent fatwood... so lets take the old stuff and try to make a mini fat wood bon fire... THIS IS AN OPEN TAG...ALL ARE ENCOURAGED TO PARTICIPATE. Please SUBSCRIBE at the end of the video. Thanks! John Capps' video ua-cam.com/video/BZvLEzfNQXI/v-deo.html
It's fun and educational to watch your experiments. I guess I'm spoiled and lazy though because I have access to all the birch bark I could ever want or need so I've never bothered to collect any fatwood.
I prefer the path of least resistance too. An example would be... why go into the woods and gather multiple tinders for 3 hours and fashion then into a bird's nest the size of a basketball when a hand full of pine needles pulled from a bag you collected behind the local K-Mart is sitting on the back porch, and they will work just as well? or the bark from fallen Tulip poplar branches that lay everywhere around here? Thanks for watching friend!
Havr you ever put it in a zip lock bag. And tried to see if it will keep better . iv got a big piece. In a zip lock bag it seems to do a great job i think its even got a little better. But i could be wrong
I see you have a Goodman A/C!! Loved the fatwood salad shooter!! Now I see you!! Nothing like the fix John is the man Indeed great guy!! Stop by see my Gold if your board fellow fire bug!! Thanks David!
I've got a pickup load just laying around the woods ready for me to gather. People don't understand when I say it's a plentiful renewable resource for me... I guess.
Can anyone hook me up with fatwood I'm tired of buying it and thet say there is here in Wisconsin but I have yet to find it I can send some of my awesome firestarter. I LOVE ME SOME FATWOOD LOL!
David West Yeah I know they sell it but it's not that great I've tried this stuff on Amazon from Plow and Hearth 60 dollars for 50lbs but I'm looking for some all natural fatwood straight out the woods I would like to compare it to what I'm buying I actually thought of taking a road trip to get a bunch of fatwood that way I wouldn't have to worry about it anymore lol! But that's costly thanks for the video

I like that technique of scraping for a curl pile, @ the 4-5min mark....beautiful.
Thanks David for all your great videos I enjoy every one of them! I have learned so much from you. God Bless You!

Thanks David. At 4:48 I put my nose to the screen. I could smell it. That was a nice sized fire. I almost hated to see the old bearing block go.
I'm looking forward to trying out the new one. Thanks!
I did the same thing! Lol!

“I hear the fire engines coming,”
“They’re coming round the bend,”
“They’re gonna catch you,”
“Cause it’s time to end.”
Great video!
Fatwood has an infinite shelf life. That's why I luv me sum fatwood!
I don't mind using the dried out stuff either.

I've got so much of it everywhere around here. I don't try to keep it from drying out.

Yes. I like to work with easy ones... Thanks!
nice fatwood collection, I love that big chunk
It can from John at the John Capps channel. Thanks!
Fat wood in the dark is cozy.
Awesome.
Funny how we get so sentimental about our fatwood. But just like us, dust to dust.
I've got a pickup load just laying around the woods ready for me to gather. People don't understand when I say it's a plentiful renewable resource for me... I guess.
looking back at 2016.. why is everything on fire?
How long did it burn?
I don't remember.
Having a hard time with that sound of you getting shavings off of your fat wood.😬
Now that's getting your Fatwood Fever ON :) That big chunk you burned would have made a great ferro rod handle too
Thanks Dean I saw you getting that Fat Wood action going on in yesterday's video. Thanks!
Can anyone hook me up with fatwood I'm tired of buying it and thet say there is here in Wisconsin but I have yet to find it I can send some of my awesome firestarter. I LOVE ME SOME FATWOOD LOL!
