    I was diagnosed at 40 with ADHD. I was losing time and not remembering conversations. I thought I had Alzheimers, but no, it was ADHD. My husband is very patient. And gives me reminders on things I need to do. I get obsessed over things and I forget to do other things Right now it is all things crochet. ❤

      These things sound oh so familiar to me and for my family. I find myself having to force myself to all the other things besides crochet, lol. I'm so glad you were able to get a diagnosis. I hope that helped you.

    Hi April! From what I have observed from watching UA-cam crocheters, I would have to guess that many of them are ADHD or ADD. Crochet (and probably many other crafts) seem to attract the neurodivergents, and I am one of them too! I don’t view it as a handicap but rather a superpower once one learns how to harness it to their benefit. Love your pumpkins!!! 😊💕

    🎉👏🏼💓Thank you for sharing your experience & curiosity about ADHD. I hyper focus on crochet as the counting & movement usually keeps my attention & feels productive. It keeps my brain from constant circling. It backfires when I'm repeating a project & it's too routine. I do have to watch my dopamine bursts about new projects & ideas, especially on Etsy, as the purchasing guilt often sucks the fun out.

      Thank you so much for commenting about the topic of ADHD. This is near to my heart. I have 4 out of 5 kids with it. My older brother received a diagnosis around the age of 30 and now that I have a little experience with my kids, I sure have learned a lot. It's def not the same for everyone & it's worse for some than others and in girls it's harder to diagnose. I have always hyper fixated on things my entire life and get distracted more and more as I've aged. Keeping my hands busy has always helped my focus.

    I have 3 kids that have various degrees of adhd, I don't have adhd but pretty sure my parents did and 3 of my siblings. You can accomplish so much more than someone without adhd. People that don't have hobbies or something to keep their hands and minds busy struggle harder with adhd. I used to feel like I lived in a house full of bees and I was the only one that didn't buzz!

    I think I have ADHD and I LOVE to crochet to the point I hyper focus on crocheting, and buying yarn is my dopamine fix 😄 my son is on a waiting list here in the UK for a diagnosis (for nearly 4 years now!) the wait list is long, unless you pay to go private which is expensive….
    Theres a statistic that if you have ADHD there’s a 70% chance your children will have it…

    • @thecozybuckeye
      @thecozybuckeye  2 місяці тому +2

      I def hyper focus on things, good Lort! 😅 I’m so sorry it takes that long in the UK. Here there is a questionnaire the parent & teachers complete, as well as the patient/child if able. Then the Dr reviews the answers. My brother has ADHD as well, so it runs on my side too. My son is very intelligent, but school is so challenging because of his challenge with focusing or listening for long periods of time. As well as sitting still. He’s not bouncing off the walls, he just likes to fidget/pace. Playing the bass guitar has been a blessing for him. He’s so much happier. Good luck to you and your son. 🫶

    It won´t be nearly as nice if I do it, - hm... It is actually extremely difficult to have favorites among your makes, - they are ALL favorites, but sometimes there is just something that stands out even more, and this purple one is one of them.

    My son and I are the poster children for ADHD 😂 I was not formally diagnosed until last year. But I’ve known for a while, and have done extensive research into it, and from what I’ve learned it gets harder on us women as we get older, which is why a lot of girls aren’t diagnosed until later on. I think it’s great that your son has such a great hobby to focus his energy into. (Maybe not great for your ears 😂) Enjoyed hanging out with you as always as I crochet along! 🧶

    My husband and youngest are classic ADHD, but I was surprised when my daughter was diagnosed. She has the inattentive type, and I have learned so much since then about how different it can look in different people. With the inattentive type, the hyperactivity is mostly internal which is why it is more challenging to spot. They often are not disturbing others, so if like your son and not failing it often isn't seen as a problem. Unfortunately, these kids often internalize that they are bad, or lazy when they're not, they just need tools to work with the way their brain works. If they don't get this help, it cause them big issues down the road.

    My son also has ADHD (Non-Hyperactive). In class the teachers all said he presented like a girl with ADHD because he would just zone out, lose focus and fade into the mix. ADHD has had so many challenges for my son in school as well as myself as a mom trying to advocate for him. It's so hard for the young children especially when they are unable to articulate their needs and how they are feeling when they don't even understand themselves. It's been a hard road for him. He is very intelligent and can coast along making C's, but in reality, he has the potential to make straight A's. It was hard to get any help from the school because he wasn't failing.

    Has this job caused any injury to your hands or shoulders after ten years?

      I have had tennis elbow a time or 2 and highly recommend cortisone shots for that, lol. I have carpel tunnel that's managed by wearing braces at night on occasion when I start to feel numbness or tingling. I have neck and shoulder pain, but that's from a very bad car accident when I was 15. I do manage the shoulder and neck pain with the chiropractor when needed. I'm currently pain free. Taking breaks when needed is key, good posture, and good tools. Hope that helps. Do you have pain?

      @@thecozybuckeye So for so good, since it's a hobby for me, not a full time job. I can't image do this 8 hours. Actually normal job you can take a rest, so I feel sometime people lower too much price of crochet products. AI told me $15 per hour for our crochet products, but I feel it depends on skills too. Not "This is overprice because I can make this by myself" (becasue some professional crocheter really did some beautiful job!! It's like an art.) , or shipping them oversea. I noticed that many crocheters are trying to have new business now, so I rethink this business a lot. Thanks for replying.
