  • The Ryobi RM300e is doing an excellent job, but the battery is where it is showing that it can be improved for better performance, so took the job in hand and now shifting it to the lithium battery.

    For those researching, resist the temptation to install 4 12v lithium batteries in a series. this type of setup has issues and will give to trouble. A single 48v battery is the way to go when it comes to lithium.

    Good day!
    Question, can the already installed charging port on the mower be used? I'm waiting on my battery to make the conversion. I was thinking of adding the triangle plug to the Lifepo4 charger and charge it that way. Or do I need to bypass the changing port?
    Thank you so much for your response!

    Why not just run the wires to the Ryobi charge port and then wire the other connection to your new charger?

    I have this exact Ryobi model mower. Anyway that you could share a link to the the battery that you bought? I heard "Double Eagle 48v" around the 9:56 mark. I went to their website and searched that but the query didn't return anything. They do have an "Eagle 1.536 kWh". So I'm guessing it has another model name on their website or perhaps that particular model isn't sold anymore. Thanks! Ooops..... just saw other's had already inquired. Sorry....

    I have this exact mower and as stated after 1 year the batteries would not hold a charge anymore. It went from 3 cuts per charge to 2 cuts then 1 cut and now nothing. I just got off the phone with Ryobi and they want me to take the unit to a local service center to be diagnosed as they say the batteries last 3-5 years....Also, if it is the batteries which we all know it is, they are only warranted for 1 year so you are out of luck getting them replaced under warranty. I have 15 hours on the unit and batteries are dead. What a POS for $2600.............

    • @gs1100ed
      @gs1100ed Рік тому +3

      Ryobi does not seem to care about their reputation. All of their new mowers are all Lithium, so obviously they know that the batteries were an issue. They should offer a kit to existing owners to convert to lithium. I have no choice but to convert mine.

      @@gs1100ed Its either spend $900-1200 for new batteries and do myself or make the switch to Lithium or sell it for $500 and be done with the POC. Have not decided yet. @@gs1100ed Its no different than golf carts most are still sold with lead acid batteries but some premium models come with lithium for more $$ think of gas lawn mowers.. premium ones could have fuel injection cheap ones use a carburetor.

    • @gs1100ed
      @gs1100ed Рік тому +1

      @@fathergratwick from my perspective, it is much different. Ryobi marketed these mowers as being capable of mowing many more acres than what it can actually mow. Also, Ryobi does not tell owners to recharge when the batteries reach 50% in order to extend (lead acid) battery life. Of course, this would also reduce the amount of acreage that the batteries are actually capable of, since the acreage calculations are based on depleting a full 100% charge to 0%. Ryobi no longer sells mowers with lead acid batteries, since they know that the batteries are the Achilles heel. Ryobi does not provide a lead acid to lithium conversion option to the suckers like me who purchased their lead acid battery mower in good faith. I will never purchase another Ryobi product and will not recommend their products to anyone as a referral.

    Hey everyone, I have a 48v 75ah 38"that I put 48v 50ah lifepo4 batteries in and it made a click and now has blinking power and won't start, any thoughts?

    • @fathergratwick
      @fathergratwick Рік тому

      you likely used 4 12v lithium batteries instead of a single 48v battery, since the lithium batteries have a bms (board that monitors and protects cells inside ) these are not always compatible with being used in groups in a series. many 50ah batteries only allow like 25amps continuous draw as well.
      like in golf carts lithium batteries in a series is frowned upon and riddled with issues like improper balance and shortened life. you need to charge each battery individually to get around that or you will see a shorter and shorter lifespan because when the weakest battery hits full charge it shuts off the charger and when the other battery that dint get full charge goes dead it kills the pack.

      I’m on year 6 with my original lead acid batteries on my ryobi rm480ex. Only this year have I noticed some reduction in capacity. But it still mows my yard. I’d say 6 years is pretty good! Two of the batteries are testing great still, and two slightly weaker but still decent. Might switch to lithium at the end of this season though.
