Dieter Florian ■ Listen to his divisions ! They are not good. It sounds as if he is having troubles singing ... ( _not_ that he is _actually_ having singing troubles ... the divisions are not precisely performed which makes him sound as if he is having breathing problems ) ; listen to D'arcangelo, by comparison. His divisions are clear, easily produced, muscular, ricocheting off-the-walls ... returning to his vocal-line, like a boomerang ; the pitches are consistent as they return for the repeats. Florez has some sweet sounds ... but he is not a _virtuoso_ Rossini tenor ; and yet, he tries Nessum Dorma. I can appreciate singers trying roles / arias that they can't sing [ at least they tried ; at least their fans have a chance to hear them sing something different ] ; but, Rossini's highly-stylized music is another matter ! [ Don't get MAD ! Just another opinion from an opera fan who wouldn't even dare sing in the shower 😊. ]
Your comment is over a decade old. I hope you have not only heard this version, but Marilyn Horne"s & Joseph Rouleau under Richard Bonynge. It's a masterpiece of an opera w / great singers.
Have you heard Samuel Ramey's interpretation of this role? His coloraturas are way better and also his voice is much bigger. This is a marvellous recording though, my favorite Semiramide, because all the singers (these ones and Gruberova and Manca di Nissa) are very good.
You have to hear Marilyn Horne's _Arsace_ it's a masterpiece of virtuoso singing. Manca di Nissa doesn't do justice to this role -- IMO. Samuel Ramey has never had this kind of lively, effervescent flexibility in this great Rossini bass role. Compared to a truely superlative bass, Ramey is good, but not monumental in the depths of that range that makes you forget sopranos & tenors. D'Arcangelo's divisions are masterly. ( His mad scene must be equally impressive. ) I'm so glad I found this video !
@Sherrill Milnes Fan :: You're being too hard on her. Her Mozart was definitely praiseworthy. She received highly-favorable critiques as _Zerbinetta._ Her career has been long / long. There must be something of her singing you like ?
In Juan Diego and Ildebrando you are listening to 2 men at their prime. Superb. Plus Semiramide is a wonderful Rossini opera
Juan Diego The best Rossini tenor Our Time, amazing 🎵🎵🎵

Quelle bonne idée de retrouver les plus belles voix surtout dans Semiramide! I love it.
Irraggiungibili D'Arcangelo e Florez. Bravissimi!
Incredibilmente bravi!
Ildebrando e Juan Diego fuoriclasse!
D'Arcangelo ist absoluter Favorit!
Really??? his coloratura is the best I've heard in a bass-baritone!!!
The bouncy coloratura in is done by... D'Arcangelo, It's not normal for a bass to do it, but D'Arcangelo is a bass-baritone, so there's no trouble :)
I would like to hear the whole thing.
he is wonderful. what nationality is he? is this recording available? i have fallen in love with this opera.
