  • It's about time I got around to sorting out my loft space, I have so many boxes taking up valuable floor space I decided it was time I built myself some shelving.
Using some 1x2's and plywood that I salvaged from packing crates at work, I managed to build 2 shelf's that sit above my plastic storage box and hold all the stuff that was previously on the floor.
Thanks for watching, please like, comment, share and subscribe.

Nicest loft shelving in the UK! 👍

Thanks bubby, not sure about nicest, but certainly the cheapest 😂 🤣

I love the way you have all the cheaper, attainable tools rather than the really expensive stuff in the american youtube channels. I'm the same as you James in that I love all the tools and call them toys but couldn't ever dream of having all those tools if there weren't places like lidl, aldi or tools like evolution etc. I bought an evolution mitre saw and circular saw after looking at your videos...
Love the recycling of wood too. its so much more fun that way....
Well done James. your videos are always Down to earth.

David, thanks for the great comment. I'm glad I could be a persuasive voice towards the evolution stuff, I've used it for years (the orange range) and for what I want and use it for its perfect. I couldn't ever see my self going down the expensive tools route, mainly because I'm to tight to buy them, but also because there are so many good tools out there from the likes of aldi/lidl also. I have bought some nicer hard Woods for special type projects, but end of the day, most of us make things for garages and workshops that can be made from salvaged wood with just as good quality as shop bought timber. 👍

I genuinely need to do this, I'm always short of space. Brilliantly filmed btw :)

Thanks buddy, not my favourite video I have produced. But won't have to film in my attic ever again now. Unless I get a train set 😂

That looks more like 2x3 But that is a good idea! You have got some great footage that shows every detail! Looks good!

Thanks Jacob, to be honest, the wood measures 58mm x 30mm, I think it has been cut down previously from larger stock. As I said, I managed to salvage this from machine packaging creates at work

Nearly everyone has a attic/loft space, it's a nightmare at best just to move around, without thinking about getting the right camera angle so you have done well.
      I'm sure others will agree.

Thanks Thomas, your right. It's just me wanting to produce better quality videos. I'll get there one day ☺

Hiya James. Another very enjoyable upload. Cheers for that.
Annoying that the second fitting against the wall was not as planned. The first one was PERFECTO!!
You know what, that situation is on of the reasons that I love to watch you’re stuff! You could easily have omitted that mistake, but you are honest and included that minor error. RESPECT!!
I guess lots of others in your position would have edited/redone etc.
I personally think you do cracking projects-and it gives me a wee bit of hope that I’m not alone in screwing up a bit occasionally.
    Great stuff.
    Cheers.

Hi David, thanks buddy. Anyone can screw up at any time. Especially when they rush like I did. I've got nothing to hide, I might as well show it when I do, as I'm sure some keen eyed person would point it out anyway. Wait until the blooper video at the end of the year, you will se how I screwed up the plastic storage box I was sat on! 🤣 🙄

Thanks Warren, I only keep the boxes of these things because I keep the receipts in them. Many are out of warranty now 🙄😁

In our last house We had boarded the whole thing and it just became a huge dumping ground. When we came to move we found there was actually nearly as much up there as there was in the rest of the house! Much of it had not been touched in the 7 years we'd been there. So in this new house it is reserved for Xmas decorations and suitcases only. Lol. Still, this is a well shot video and I'm sure will be useful to others. By the way, I am sure it is fine for what you have put on the shelves, but in my limited experience, screwing your supports into the end grain will not be very strong unless you use really long screws.

That the problem with a loft, out of sight out of mind. Everything I have up there is things I own, which I still use and the receipts are still in the boxes. They only get thrown out when I no longer have the item. As regards the screws, the ones I used were 50mm long, hence why I added the glue also. Was considering pocker holes, but as you say it's only light weight things so didn't think it necessary 👍

Good job. Of course, if you decluttered then you wouldn't have needed to make it. But then we wouldn't have a video. Darn. Nice shelves.

    • @JamesManCave
      @JamesManCave  5 років тому +1

Thanks Andy, I keep all the boxes for stuff I have with the receipts in, so the box only goes out once the item breaks! 🤣
