Hello Friends,
On this episode we say goodbye to Sydney Harbour and make our way North to the Pittwater area, bound for America Bay in Cowan Creek. After an easy motor sail up we pick up a morning ball and settled in for some exploration of the trails and waterfall nearby.

Like many, the first video I watched was when you started the journey, when you experienced some life changing event and you seemed a bit down and seeing the epic journey you took and the community you have created and seeing you happy, I don't know you but I am happy for you dude :)
Sailing off the hook with no music clanging in the background...you and Rhonda whispering and the birds chirping! Nice!
It’s the magic of it all
This was my favourite part. More of this
Kinda felt like I was on the boat
A way to a man’s heart. I love the look on face James when you tell us Rhonda is cooking something. 😀😀😀
💯 😂
8:02 the smile on James face says it all, he is a lucky man🎉
Hahah I noticed it too. He is like damn ,I got this day and night to myself. Heaven I am in Heaven.
You are one of the very few thanking the viewers, and not only the Patrons.
Thank you for that !
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Enjoy all those beautiful adventures guys because before you know it memories will remain and life passes us all by all to quickly ❤
I grew up around these waters such a beautiful part of the world

I know absolutely nothing about sailing but I've been following from the start of this journey and I'm learning more each video. I am quite surprised how interesting this is to me!
Thanks for following along 🙏🏻
Same
Stop now, that's how I started and now I own a big vintage yacht 😂😂
Praise the Lord. At least someone in the crew can row a dinghy, ship to shore, the right way. Thank you Rhonda for being that person. . And at the age of 4, that's how I was taught, by an old seaman. And yes at that age, the oars were damn awkward to manage, but I did get there eventually. Change of subject. Appreciate James how you place the coordinates of each anchoring location. I believe, of all the sailing channels I'm subscribed to, you may be the only one who does that. Thank you sir. So now looking forward to further episodes, around Australia. Loving your channel. Bring it on.!!!
I make sailing videos for sailors ⛵️ glad you appreciate the extra effort
@@SailorJames ✌
My mum and dad taught me at a tender (excuse the pun) age… always amuses me to see people try and row the wrong way round.
@@julianbatcheler9970 👍
its not the wrong way, its just a different way. Steinbeck calls it "Fisherman Style"
Thanks for the great video! Rowing the dinghy and pulling the anchor chain - it's good to share.
The silent sail off the mooring 👏🏽👌🏽
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Great shots James, good to see you are making your way as planned.
Thanks brother 🙏🏻
And rowing with those dinghy rowlocks is horrible. Love being with you on your journeys 😁
Yeah, inflatables are tricky to row except in these dead calm conditions, rowing them in 15+ knots of wind is such a bummer
You guys are one of my favorite channels ! EnJOY On!
⭐️🌞⛵️⭐️🌞⛵️⭐️🌞⛵️
I love the ending, so peaceful! Thanks for sharing. And Rhonda i don't blame you, I don't care for spiders or snakes either! 🩵⛵️💙
I love slow sailing !
Just wanted to share how much I enjoy these videos. I have no idea why I am watching 2 sailing channels (I am watching another one also), given that I have water phobia and get panic attacks on water. It may be that I am coming to grips with that fear. I enjoy knowing stuff about sailing, the technicalities, and how you face obstacles, and embrace it all. I guess it is a channel where one learns about sailing but also coping skills. And let's not forget the views, the places.. I enjoy seeing you and Rhonda, how life evolves.. I appreciate your hard work on making and sharing these videos with the community. 🙏
I totally get this, I love watching UA-cam videos of bushcraft, especially non-narrative videos and of simple sand casting , I will likely never do either of those activities but I really enjoy watching them
By the way, welcome to Australia. I am a little one eyed when it comes to the Land Down Under especially Qld, I love it up here. I really enjoyed the sounds of the Australian Bush, I could almost smell the eucalyptus
Always interesting! From waterfalls to quiet sailing…. Thanks for taking us along…!
nice sailing off the mooring eh... sailing on is also really good
Yep yep
Hi James and Rhonda, I remember going through Sydney heads on my first cruise/outside Australia adventure on the P&O Oriana it was magnificent sailing out of Sydney but incredible sailing into Sydney. Thank you for the videos. Keep up the good work. Really appreciate you guys Cliff from Logan City Queensland Australia
It’s a very beautiful feature to see from the sea
James has changed , quite a bit , it was only a matter of time before he took on a mate , iam sure sailing alone is not the best of time after a few 1000 miles . Good luck to you both ,
I have not changed at all. And sailing alone was perfectly fine, it’s just different than sailing with another person.
@@SailorJameslol yeah you have, there is a extra spring in your step.
A ga in yah fuffle.
A woo in ya hoo.
An awe in ya some
Not saying you were bad, down, heavy before but now you just seem lighter, with laughter, happier which considering the circumstances is perfectly normal..
oG was a compliment I think but can see how it could have been taken the wrong way.
Sailing north from Ballina hopefully next week making my way to Cookstown then Asia..
Do you know me?
Great to see you exploring Sydney Harbour ( my home town where I lived in various places around the harbour and worked in the Opera House when I was a student ) and its many small bays and also the many sites in the city ) I hope you explore the Hawkesbury River also which is really worth a trip up the it’s reaches ! Take your time going up the coast especially the Lismore Byron region is worth a little time to explore the caldron/hinterland of the Tweed River Valley
+ Port Stephens, and seeing the huge empty beaches around the north coast. The beaches around Mungo Brush, Seal Rocks and Wallis Lake are amazing.
G'day guy's thanks for bringing me along with you both on that awesome waterfall hike, and that absolutely peaceful sail of the mooring was epic mate listening to the sails and the birds 🐦 in the background is so tranquil! Cheers mate.
Great video. I enjoy your travels !
Rhonda the Rower!😀
All aboard the Skylark... Capt Pugwash. .. 🇬🇧 kids tv cartoon. Not just for kids 😂🧙🏻♂️
That lookout point at the waterfall was stunning.
Sounds daft but does the Australian bush smell different from the NZ one...im thinking of the Eucaliptids. The soundscape is certainly different..
Smells more like California than NZ to me
The bush I’ve so far experienced here is much different and feels different also, NZ has a rich earthy fresh smell and the energy feels more potent. I however haven’t been into any of what I’d call large forests here in Australia. I’m sure this differs in areas though. I think the abundance of bird song in NZ also plays a huge factor too.
Australian bush always feels very ancient somehow, and sometimes peculiarly spooky. Maybe I've watched Picnic at Hanging Rock too many times.
America bay is great, used to a spend a week every summer with my dad down there on his 30 footer, good memories. Busy during holidays and dead the rest of the time.
Nice. Thanks guys. xxx
Just beautiful! You’ve lowered my blood pressure. So very relaxed, now. 🤗😎🥰
Perfect 👍🏻
Great shots. Rhonda I think you're getting your leg pulled about rowing, so you know who can sit back and relax.
Nah, I do it 99% of the time
I'd sooner watch Rhonda row than James....
Welcome to the joys and frustrations of Pittwater-- it is one of my favourite places in the world-- and I grew up in the Marlborough Sounds. Hope you found Castle Rock waterfall-- where it comes straight on to the beach-- great to for skinny dipping during the week! Phil
We visited Castle Lagoon waterfall and Refuge Bay waterfall, lots of great places to explore in that area
Gday mates! Its adventure time with James N Rhonda ❤ great video ! Really looking forward to seeing you document the wildlife you come across (the subtitles of what they are is greatly appreciated), such a weird place animal wise down there !
Soooo many wild creatures to see!!!!
CROCODILES JAMES!!!. You tempted fate with the head hunters. And got away with it. Luck is not a bottomless well dude.
HYEEAH 'MERICA BAY GOBBLESS
I'd venture to say 99% would have fired the diesel to depart. Sincerely appreciate your authenticity.
I love slow sails
Yay! Love that area. I have been looking at an Island Packet Estero that is there for sale.
Just know that apart from the salt water crocs, none of Aussie wildlife ATTACKS people. Spiders and snakes are potentially dangerous if the need to defend themselves. Keep your eyes open, and don't give anything panicking at your sight a reason to think you are going to attack them.
Hi from Adelaide, South Australia! Always a buzz seeing foreigners explore your home country. And yeah, orb weaver spiders are terrifying! All the best guys.
Happy Sunday, Patreon gang.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
was thinking you might need to re-market your gig. the moment you went in for that hug and kiss under the waterfall, was the moment your solo trip ended...
Dude, it’s long been announced that Rhonda is living on Triteia 🙄
😅never trust the forecast in Sydney. Good to see you around here and thanks for the video
You look happy James. A good woman's company does that to a man.
The Nephila genus of orb weavers found around the world construct large webs. It is the females that attain large size, whereaas the males are way smaller. If you find a large one, sometimes you'll find a tiny male hanging out at the edges of the web. Nephila sp. are big but harmless. That ending sequence was peaceful.
Hey James were coping heaps of rain down here in Port Stephens..
Hi James and Rhonda, great videos. Been watching the whole journey.
You are perfectly safe in the bush, as long as you can see exactly what you are stepping on. So on well formed tracks, sandshoes or even thongs are fine. I would suggest some decent boots on less well formed tracks where you can’t see the ground or there is a lot of leaf debris. Most bites are on the foot (or hand when picking things up or moving things). That area and all the way up the coast has many different and highly venomous snakes including Brown, Black, Tiger, Taipan, & Death Adder. There are not usually too aggressive and this time of year through the cooler months less so. Like I said perfectly safe and great bushwalking all the way up the coast, just keep your eyes open, leave any snakes alone and please wear some decent footwear. (Oh, yeah, you should also have a snake bite bandage with you - google it)
Looking forward to the whole journey ahead. (sorry to sound like a nervous Nelly, but these are basic precautions every Australian bushwalker takes)
We are well aware of the dangers and don’t take risks 👍🏻 I am from New Mexico, I grew up with tons of rattlesnakes
The outback is a far cry from New Mexico.....@antonilavin2488, others will take heed and appreciate your sound advice.
Oh is there sailing in the outback????? 🙄
The Hawkesbury River one of the best area's of NSW hope you went to Cottage point Inn was my go to restaurant while I was living in Sydney, I miss the Hawkesbury so much, a truly special environment, along with Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park & Garigal National Park. Australians are so blessed to live in such natural beauty. Queensland will blow your mind I'm sure James & Rhonda.
Hi the book I mentioned ( 500 days ) the boat was in the Brisbane museum last time I went there , the design of his keel ( to stop getting rolled ) and rudder ( to stop getting pitchpoled ) are just two of the clever things he did to make an 11 and half foot boat handle open Ocean . The main part of the museum is free and worth a look. Cheers
Thanks for the heads up! we will look into visiting the Museum!
So glad you have a wonderful person to see the world with this is amazing James very happy for you both…also I’m glad you guys care about our sea as it’s being littered with trash that makes me so angry when I see trash in the sea
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
You go Rhonda☺
Actually, James you sailed all this time to get to Rhonda…..wierd how life takes us places we never expect.
No, but it’s been a lovely new chapter.
Coal and Candle Creek
Hey James I would love to know when your sailing past the Gold coast in Queensland if your stopping around the gold coast I would love to meet u.
That place is awesome...Animals everywhere...Call Steve Irwin
I'm with Rhonda on this one, don't like the big creepie crawlies or snakes. Must be a kiwi thing.
⛵ ❤
So James, what's the big picture plan ? Across Indian ocean, round Cape town 😊 or up thru Suez 🤔.. Bon voyage 😂😊
Indian Ocean, Madagascar, South Africa, Atlantic , the Amazon, Cape Horn, then north to LA
@SailorJames well if you are gonna skip Europe,, I won't be buying you a good beer 😉
That’s on the next circumnavigation, but I am sober so it will need to be a ginger beer
Didn't you used to have an outboard for the dinghy?
Yes and I still do, no need to use an outboard for such short distances
Another nice adventure. I also couldn't help noticing that paint job on Triteia when you were departing in the dinghy.
The colors still look stunning!
I love her color scheme, classic and beautiful

👍
Looking forward to you sailing to a non western country in the pacific
I am assuming you are referring to Southeast Asia
@@SailorJames yes of course.
Where you are, there are aboriginal paintings and sites of significance everywhere. It must be different, being from another country, and experiencing different fauna. 🙂 Please don't eat our mushrooms, we have some particularly poisonous ones.
I would be too scared to walk through those woods… too many dangerous things in Australia.
Fear is no way to live
@@SailorJames as a rule I agree.
But you have to draw lines… like I will scuba dive but I would never cave dive. I know my limits.
When it comes to biting things in Australia I draw a line… willing to sail across oceans but too many really nasty and very small things there. I have met Australians who never walk around in wild areas because of the potential issues.

Hi folks , what are your thoughts on our Australian native trees, rock formations etc ?👍🇦🇺🦘
After being in NZ for so long Australia is very minimal when it comes to all of these things. But it has amazing mammal wildlife that NZ doesn’t have
@@SailorJames The Australian bush is an acquired taste. It seems pretty dull at first, not least the dull green colours compared to more temperate countries. I think it takes years to grow an affection for it. Interestingly it seems the Aborigines used to regularly burn huge areas of the undergrowth and to create grassy open forest to improve hunting, so the early settler accounts often compared the landscape to European parklands. There's a book all about it called The Biggest Estate on Earth.
You have a good looking woman cooking for you rowing the boat.....you ARE the man.
😂😂😂
10:53 "He is massive!" . No, it is not ;-)
Never squash on someone’s excitement
Just a head’s up for all the trolls who want to try to match wits with James… he’s going to crush you. He’s smarter than you and he’s actually out doing what you either don’t have the balls or the brains to do.
😂😂😂 I was raised by a woman with razor shape wits
@@SailorJames same here, and an older sister who beat respect for women into me, lol!!!
james you got married...you didnt tell
That’s news to me and Rhonda
Careful James. With Rhonda on board you’re going to get fat!!
Not at all, I am actually eating healthier than ever.
How much is your starlink monthly?
It was $200usd a month but they just more than doubled it so I transferred it to Australia and it’s $116 a month for now
@@SailorJames Thanks friend.
I’d bet down there they have poisonous puppies.
😂😂😂
I think you may be close to the wreck of the warship HMAS Parramatta ? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMAS_Parramatta_Shipwreck_and_Memo
As a Sydney sider living overseas, really loving these videos. Envy you the freedom of seeing Sydney by boat instead of by car/ public transport.
Hey James - nice to see you are no longer "single handing". 😎🫴⛵
