Apple Review, Super Early, Delicious Flavor and Worth Growing
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 вер 2024
- July Red is an early apple that stands a little ahead of the average super early apple. Like many very early apples, the texture is not great, it doesn't keep at all, it is somewhat low in sugar and has an overall thin presentation. What it does have though is a delicious flavor that is somewhat berry like. It is not always strong, but definitely delicious. I would not have any need for a whole tree of this apple in the orchard, but a branch is certainly worthwhile. The earliest apples I'll take with me when I move are July Red, Kerry Pippin and Williams' Pride. I usually have a few scions of this variety for sale each winter @ www.skillcult.com/store

Thanks for all you do. Prayers for you to heal and feel better.
Best of luck with your fast. hope it helps> Thank you for sharing your passion for apples with us
Thanks
I went 40 days for lent on juice. I felt great however I have never been able to go back to eating meat. When I do I feel drunk and have to go take a nap. My joints get stiff and don’t feel well for a few days.
I did 11 days and actually felt pretty good. but I wanted to transition to a water fast. I only made it 4 days and started to have problems, so I bailed out. I did see some benefit though. Interesting about the meat. I've usually found meat is one of the easier things for my body to process. It has been a long time since I quit it for a long period of time though. I did feel very relieved and clear on that juice though, if a little weak.
@@SkillCult I think week one and two were the hardest. I drank juiced kale, tomato, mixed vegetable and some mixed fruit with berries. I did it for spiritual reasons but I did feel good at the end. I learned that Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
I could use to do it again and I used to fast one day a week but it became legalistic and less spiritual so I stopped. I hope you can find a path for good health.
Do you have any apples that would work in Louisiana
I really don't know much about that. I have a few old southern varieties. I'm just not the person to ask and my seedlings are still being tested in the south.
Здоров'я вам....😊
The symptoms you describe are indicative of mitochondrial dysfunction. That is a common after effect of viral diseases. High dosage thiamine (vitamin B1) helps. You can supplement or bake your own whole grain sourdough or brew your own beer. Adding some high phosphorus bone meal to your veggie garden also helps a lot. Ferment mustard seeds and make your own mustard. Those should be easy fits in your lifestyle and while make a big difference. That also goes for vitamin K2 and D3. Upping magnesium levels is another key step. For that just add some Epsom salt to the bone meal mix. Your plants and the biome of the soil will do the rest. Generally, cruciferous plants are your friend and most of California including the ocean near the coast are environmentally thiamin, phosphorus, and magnesium deficient. Give your soil a little help and the soil helps you back.
I do seem to have issues with cellular energy production. I will get out of breath sometimes doing almotst nothing. I've been on B1 for a couple months. I can't say it's been all that useful so far. I'm taking the super available one too, from garlic. I've wasted so much money on supplement over the past 25 years. I doubt they are going to be the key. I hope they will work better though as I make more progress. Our soils are high in Mag, lower in calcium. I've done trace mineral tests and made some adjustments.
I am in the same situation following a heavy duty antibiotic treatment. Fasting helps. Apples help me particularly which is why I am subscribed to your channel. About two months ago I tried an old German treatment that helped a lot of people with chronic fatigue after the Spanish flu. It is low dose Methylene Blue. I am taking the Earth Harmony USP Grade Ultimate Methylene Blue mixed into sparkling water for a total of 15 drops a day. You would probably need twenty drops per day. This is curative over time. You will probably have to take it for about three months and your pee will be blue. Also remember that your mitochondria need phosphorus. Keeping your iodine levels up is also a good idea and some good amount of seaweed in your diet is going to do the trick. Your thyroid also needs selenium to work for which Brazil nuts are a rich source. You need me particular regimen. Your body will usually tell you how much you need. That's why food is the better way to go than supplements
Be well, I hope the fast helps you out immensely.
Thanks for sharing your July apples, as well. I have a handful of young trees growing from your seed stock, and excited to see how they do. you've gotten me inspired to start trying other fruits like cherry, peach & nectarine, etc from seed and start experimenting.
The earliest in my orchard is Worcester Pearmain, good fresh off the tree and not as good even the day after picking.
The trees from seeds i brought back from Kazakhstan about 10 years ago are finally coming into fruit - might get 500 - 1000kg this year which we will juice and ferment for cider.
Really hope you get an upturn in your health, very best wishes to you indeed.
Cheers man,
Tom
I'd love to hear about anything especially interesting or disease resistant from the Kazakhstan seeds. I don't think I have Worcester. Sounds like a typical early apple. July Red is slightly better in most regards, but not way better. Flavor though is really great and makes up for it.
Have you ever posted about pears? That looks like a big specimen behind you in most of this vid. We have three varieties now, as extra flavors for cider/perry when they grow up.
Also, take care of yourself with that fasting. We all just heard about the vegan lady that went too far.
I have some pears, but don't talk about them a lot. I tend to listen to my body, so I'll probably be okay.
Seeing a post pop up from you is a treat. I know it's worth watching because you don't post trivially. If you are posting it means I'm about to learn something neat.
Nice, i have been lurking every other day for new content. By the way, i successfully grafted Gold Rush, Williams Pride, Pink Lady and last but not least Golden Russet, here in (hot)Jamaica. Always watching your older content for inspiration. Thanks
A guy from florida just told me that Pixie Crunch does really well for him. if you can find it, it might be a good one.
@@SkillCult thanks
We're rooting for you man! I've been off the Instagram for a while or at least only popping in occasionally but I need to post a picture of my first apple seedlings . They're from seeds I purchased from you this spring and planted in air prune boxes. My growing is lazy in general this season so I planted the boxes and stuck them in my friend's container garden area. She's just giving them minimal care and water but they're looking decent. Curious to see how your fast goes, get well. The world needs your knowledge and we want you well because we appreciate you.
thanks :)
Huh? Lyme disease. Mayhaps you should get in touch with Eddie Liger of Midwestern Marx. That boy has battled and overcome it from boyhood. He's recently been to Olympic qualifiers for wrestling. If you reach out to him, let him know that one of the MWM patrons sent you.
Just read the carnivore diet comment below. That is worth trying!
This may come off rude, but I had your symptoms and it was found to be something to do with my cats, had to give them to my brother.
That’s rough man. Lyme disease is a scary one. A local DJ completed suicide recently. It’s believed Lyme disease had something to do with it. Hope you stay strong man.
It has been a really rough ride for sure. I'm doing much better fortunately, just not better enough.

🍎An apple a day keeps The Doctor Away.
Hey Steven, look into oxalic acid overload, it causes : fatigue, arthritis, kidney stones, lots of problems.
There are so many rabbitholes like that to go down. I have avoided that one because it doesn't make sense and I have already been down enough of them to be very cautious. There is someone out there that thinks everything is bad for you and causes everything. You have to pick your battles. Not ready for that one yet. I'm more likely to increase my intake of vegetables including a lot of high oxalic sources.
I hope you are feeling better since this vid came out! I've been finding that UV radiation sucks the life out of me, I have to limit my time outside between like 11am-3:30pm or I feel like going inside and taking a nap after hardly doing anything. I don't have an autoimmune condition or anything (that I know of) but I have read that UV exposure can make some autoimmune conditions worse. Take care!
A bit, for now. Still working on it... I seem to do okay with the sun.
Best of luck brother. 💚💪🏼
Fasting... the fast way to heal!
Prayers Bro❤️ always enjoy your content.
Thanks you :)
Juice fast is the problem, been there done that and never worked for me. In the end I went right the opposite all beef diet or BBBE's now I'm smoking energy through the roof back in the gym if ur into that and sleeps amazing.
2 doctors I follow the most are dr. Anthony Chaffee and Dr. KenDBerry MD and also Steak and Butter Gal for food pre. Just saying don't hurt just to look!!!!??? cheers
I've already done super low carb/high fat. I always feel horrid on that kind of diet. Last time ended up underweight, depressed and lost interest in eating at all. You can read my several other comment responses addressing carinivore and other extreme diets and diet cults. There are people that respond well to almost any extreme diet for a while. If this doesn't work out, I'll probably do a really long water fast, maybe with supervision. Drastic times call for drastic measures. Glad your feeling better, just be open to long term negative effects creeping in.
@@SkillCult I went through most of the same as you, done fruit and fruit juice and became diabetic. Done all kinds of fasting and still do fasting from time to time right now on a 2 day water fast and then will do a 2 day dry fast then back to a 1 day water fast. Just this morning, over the last 2 day I made a mega pot of beef broth and reduced to cubes and will do beef broth until that runs out then back to red Meat only and see what happens. Down 2 pant sizes so far and never hunger so far. Any how all the best for you . Also got 3 bags of herbs from Dr. Robert Morse and 1 bag of a parasite cleanse just herbs. cheers
Juice fasts are not good. Sugar is very inflammatory. If you are going to fast, best to do a low carb one, like a fat-fast (80-90% calories from fat). I wonder how you would feel after doing one of those.
lolz
I've already tried that. It was one of the worst things I ever did for healthwise. I've never been able to draw any correlation between sugar consumption and inflammation in myself and think a lot of the sugarphobia is internet hearsay and hysteria. My inflammation is already way down on juice. My friend was just telling me how his friend resolved her autoimmune issues with weeks on just grape juice. You can find the same results with carnivore and other extreme low carb diets. Starch on the other hand I can have issues with. Any of these extreme diets and fasting can increase stress hormones that are anti-inflammatory- cortisol, adrenaline, norepinephrine (which is basically endogenous speed). That is probably why so many people feel great when they start them, but then eventually they stop working. The usual scenario is someone reads about some diet cult. They start believing it, before they even try it. They see results in the beginning, but can't sustain the extreme nature of the diet, or start having issues. Then look for another diet cult to join. You can find lots of people from any extreme diet that have had astounding results, but it is much harder to find people that stay on them and are healthy beyond a couple years. It happens though. Probably some are just more suited to certain diets.
Good luck, I really hope your fasting helps you! Also hope that your apples ripen so that you have something to juice :)
thanks. I should have enough apples. I'm stashing them in the fridge for later. I did 11 days on just juices and kraut, then transitioned into a water fast, which I'm hoping to extend out for two weeks (just finished day 4) if I feel alright, then back to juice and kraut for a week, then juice with raw meat for another week if I can bag a deer in time. Drastic times call for drastic measures. I'd sure like to eat a steak or some pizza right about now though lol.
@@SkillCult That does sound drastic, but I sincerely hope you feel better by the end of it!
Good luck duuude
I was wondering if cannabis has any effect on your decease.
I've tried CBD before and it didn't seem to affect anything much. Didn't help with inflammation. I'm not a big fan of THC. Microdosing other things has helped some.
I don't know if you can get lubera varieties in the USA but i grow katka, its a new and pretty obscure apple but one of the best early varieties i have, if a little prone to cracking. Sorry to hear you still suffering, I had chronic fatigue and inflammation issues for 2 and a half years, I took lysine (for a coldsore) and found that it really helped with the fatigue. Its worth a try as it's very cheap and safe.
I may have tried lysine before, but if so I can't remember why. It is supposed to help with viral infections.
I don't have Katka. I"ve heard mixed reviews on the lubera apples. That one sounds interesting.
Yes I have had some mixed results with lubera apples, some being great and some so so. Katka is very unusual in that it is firm, crisp and very early. The flavour is also very good for an early apple. It has faint tropical notes a little similar to a good Crips pink. It's also scab resistant. Mine are all cracked, but this might be an issue resulting from the fact that it's on an m9 thats runted out as I let it bear fruit too early.
@@mcgeebag1 I would suspect that the red fleshed apples are less likely to be high quality. The bar is just set lower for them right now, but I think not for long. Sounds great. I have one unlabelled apple that is ripening tha is obviously modern, with a nice texture. It is still behind these first earlies though. Also, had a very tasty centennial crab yesterday. Get that if you don't have it.
Centennial crab, I don't have it but I will! Thanks
A few years ago i grafted out even more Williams Pride since i liked it so much. It was my earliest best apple. I will get a few July 20th ish, but they get much better at the end of the month and into august. I got no water core this year, im kinda disappointed in that lol.
I'm sure I'll do at least a full dwarf tree of WP. If I were doing a market orchard, I'm sure I'd plant more. Definitely top ten here all things considered.
not taking anything away from your work but found an apple tree in town growing inside a crab apple. so far best pic looks like a Summer Banana an old 1880s apple type. Do you know where I can look at apple pics to try to guess what this is? it is very narrow at the bottom wide at top. apple is only about 2.5 to 3 inches max around top bottom about an inch taste is somewhat like a granny smith but not fully ripe yet green with yellow hue ??
Maybe the crab is an overgrown rootstock? The USDA commissioned thousands of water color renderings of apples. There is a large data base of them somewhere on the internet. I would just use a search engine though too though. I usually use > Summer Banana Apple Variety < You can come up with old references that way. Also Archive.org and googlebooks. You might get lucky and find a real description.
@@SkillCult is an odd planting at a business can see three trunks grew on a little twist but all trunks about same size and color. so was weird seeing grab apples half size of a dime and then these 2 -3 inch size apples on the same planting. I intend to get cuttings off it. TY for your reply watched your work
German Wikipedia on apple varieties is full of pictures too.
This content right here is truly scalloped potatoes.
I'm assuming that's good. I'm a fan. My teacher Jim Riggs always layered Ritz crackers in his dutch oven, campfire scalloped potatoes.
@@SkillCult I have the heavy tism, anything scalloped potatoes is beyond good.
If anyone can figure out a way to overcome what your going through it will be you! Wishing you the best and hoping you find some real relief so you can feel better.
Looks like exellent apple! Congrats, always big effort from you, and it pays out on the end... hope you'll get better soon ❤
Is it already that time of year again? Yay!
My sister's roommate has Lyme disease and apparently the only thing that's helped her was eating only meat...which kinda sucks (especially when you grow your own fruit lol), but it could be something to try. I'm also tired all the time, but I don't know why. I really need to get some tests done...
I don't really like to say that lyme is my problem. I think it is more likely a susceptibility induced by modern factors that some of us are more prone to. I've tried extreme low carb diet and it was awful. A lot of people will improve on extreme diets and fasting. But later they relapse or can't handle the diet. I"m hoping if I can reset my immune system once in a while, I can live a fairly normal life in between. I feel WAY better yesterday and today already, because all that inflammation is squelched. Can't live on juice forever though...
@@SkillCult I hear ya. It's no fun feeling like crap. Hoping for the best!
@@SkillCult You might take a look at Mikhaila Peterson, she went through some kind of actual hell with inflammation and other issues. worth a look at least. Also (and I know you have already done some serious looking at your issues, just in case you haven't come across either of these) Intermittent fasting. it has a lot of the benefits of an extended fast but its daily instead of multiple days on end.
@@Claythargic There is no shortage of people that respond well to super low carb and carvivore diets, but also to other extreme diets like raw, vegan, fruitarian etc. Unfortunately, instead of looking at that broader phenomenon, people focus in on the thing that works for them and think it's the ultimate human diet. My friend Matt Stone at 180 degree health, has a theory called the chatecholamine honeymoon that tries to address that phenomenon. I think he is probably at least partially right. They may function mechanistically very much like fasting. Hard to say though with all the diet cults fighting it out instead of rationally looking for deeper causation and real answers . Most people are missing the real questions, like why all of a sudden is everyone sensitive to so many foods that we used to eat in quantity. And why are so many people coming down with these persistent chronic health issues now. Extreme diets may be helpful sometimes, but they are bandaids and shouldn't be necessary. Ok, rant over lol. I've been in this rodeo a while. It is part of how I developed my observations and hypotheses about the belief paradigm. So, I guess one good thing has come of it :)
Stephen, can recommend Dr Pradeep Jamnadas videos on fasting here on youtube. Have helped me tremendously with chronic pain, brain fog etc. Be well and we appreciate all the content.
Thanks I"ll check it out. I've follwed Valter Longo and David Sinclair a bit. Both worth checking out. Are you water fasting or ? I've mostly done water fasts, or just some broth or ACV and honey a couple times a day. This juice fasting is way easier! I feel so much better already.
Appreciate your opinion and have trees in my orchard per your advice. I’ve never fasted on purpose but have known hunger when I was young and my sense of taste was keen in those days.
I"m fortunate to have mostly experienced hunger by choice.
Godd to see you making a new video!
Are you moving to a piece of property where you can continue your work?
Thats the plan. Just saving money right now.
Good luck on your fast man, stay safe! I might have to try a fast myself not a bad idea. Do you ever sell your red flesh apple tree or a graft?
Thanks. I feel better already. It's worth a try. Water fasting can be rough. I'm drinking at least 1/2 gallon of fresh mixed juice a day and some fruit juice, so it's a lot easier. The top researchers in longevity and healthspan are very clear that fasting and eating less often in general are top of priority. check out David Sinclair and Valter Longo.
The best red fleshed apple I think I should really assess it well first, so I can promote it with some confidence. It might be a while. Most of them are avaiable in the winter as scion wood through my website.
@@SkillCult Wow you have a lot of gardening videos on there too. Very cool, I'll be checking out the website, thanks.
