The mechanic studio original toy designs they put out are pretty darn good. I will continue to support this line of originals. PS, MFT does a lengends+ scale. Good review, mack.
Got one to go on my shelf with the NewAge 'bots. He firts really well with them. Not sure I'll get the planned Octane and Blitzwing too, but I'm glad I've got this one.
I feel about these the way I used to feel about Igear products. However original it is, they wouldn't be in a position to make it if they hadn't made money out of a lot of KO's, first. That being said, they've made designing a G1 Astrotrain look very easy. Compared to FT and Hasbro (both also really good) and notwithstanding differences in scale, this would be my favourite.
I just picked up the grey cartoon version and it actually has all three of Bobby's compaints fixed. The waistplate stays clipped on, there's some color on those rectangles in the shins, and the shin panels do tab in. On closer inspection the tabs are actually missing on this toy color version, I guess to allow a bigger Decepticon sticker for train mode? Also, the panels on the front of the forearms should be open for both alt modes, they cover over the side of the hips and the panels on the reverse side won't close down all the way otherwise.
Lets get this hip flap outta the way......YEET! A simple thing but that gave a good old chuckle on a dreary Monday morning. BTW, I had to go back and look as I agreed the back of Thomas looked small (real world wise) but its fairly close to how it looks in some shots of TFTM.
An oversize of this with hand articulation and train flap tabs in bot mode, with all its simplicity, would be my masterpiece. Not everyone's obviously. But personally I wish there was a class of MP sized bots like this. I feel like that's something missing for those of us that choose not to afford FansToys and the like.
@@saulGjr lol u said ur waiting for another simplistic astrotrain.. fancy cell already did. but not in legends class. what he said is MP class. magic square is not into MPs
Kind of surprised MFT's Huffer/Pipes and Gears/Swerve have never come up here. I know CHUG-like products don't typically come up here anymore, but those are some solid CHUG-style releases, especially Gears/Swerve.
Thanks for the review bobby. Their original mold have been really good recent. They also trying to finished gaps like head masters and g1 triple changers (blitzwing, octane) so their releases are verry exciting lately
I actually like the MFT original designs, I haven't bought a single one of them because they aren't legends scale, they are on a different scale altogether. The fandom likes to call it a legends+ scale, I call it... a different scale. I've often tried to make an excuse to buy them, like "I will only buy the headmasters on a different scale and I will display them by themselves." but I know how that "I will only buy..." thing goes (that is exactly how I started buying every different line I'm collecting at the moment), I'm already buying 3 different scales of TF figures and that is more then enough, big, medium and small, if I start buying other scales in between I will end up spending way more then I already do and I spend a lot as it is. I share your overall opinion about this figure, thank you for the review Mr. Skullface.
It's a shame you haven't seen their Rodimus Prime and Hound yet, they are awesome, Hound is just a bit too big. I can't judge their Omega Supreme as I don't have it, someday maybe as I do have the upgrade set.
Does anyone remember which Skullface transformer review had that funny ankle/leg rocker that sent Bobby over the edge with laughter? I’ve been thinking about that video and would really like to watch that again to get a good laugh.
TFW2005’s NOCV designed this. Also, Magic Square used his Shapeways files to make their Frenzy and Rumble, and NOCV did not get a cut. So, what is and is not a “KO” is not always so obvious, eh, Bubbzz? 😉 And, the alternate heads are for some of the other Decos.
Here is one you might like. It's not Astrotrain, but it is a minifig scale steam locomotive transformer. www.flickr.com/photos/horned_owl/albums/72157710622255801 There are also images of the transformation in a different album, if your interested.
Bobby quoted the collector.

Just wait for thier toon accurate blitzwing and octane..
this company is on the roll.

When u transform it into a train u can raised the hand covers & u would have some were to put your guns & it would look cool too

In all of Bobby's vids, I can see the awesome Tiger-trax comparison coming a miiiiile away. C'mon Bobby surprise us!
The original toon accurate Iron Sky variant has that rectangle on the side of the shuttle that this one is lacking.

Magic square would be the one to give us a simplistic astrotrain like this

Great review! I just ordered Iron Sky!😁😁😁

Does this have a 4mm or 5mm grip? I was making him a Targetmaster.
Bobby said in the first minute that it’s a 5mm port.
@@VAULT-TEC_INC. I was just surprised and confirming because every MFT figure I have seen has a 4mm grip.
sometimes I think if it was a mistake I took the masterpiece way and not legends...
one thing this legends class have that MPs are lacking.. is fun transformation.

Is it just me or no one mentioning that it's 99% exact transformation of the G1 toy ?
Ah, i hope magic square someday make astrotrain figure. legend class with masterpiece engineering looks great
I put him on a legends display with mostly magic square and iron factory display and he works pretty well

If it was OS into a voyager size then it would work for Chug Main line. The style is great. But too small in train mode for chug collectors.

Pretty nice, sort of a G1 modernization. There should be a term for that.
It was called “Generations” 😎
