- Hey everyone, me again.
Today I took a Geiger edelmetalle 5 gram gold bar and cracked it's case.
I always wondered how the blue security features would react while working the gold.
Flattened, Melted what will I make with it?

Those are beautiful bars. I have several of the Geiger Silver bars, a few 10 oz, 1 oz, but no gold bars. I need to get one.
These 5oz's are incredible looking. I'm going to move up in weights as time goes on.

The blue stamp is actually security its fluorescent under blacklight as some kind of anti counterfeit measure.

To avoid the metal tearing. Temper it by heating cherry red then dip in water. It softens and aligns the molecules
Agree. People will argue 24k gold doesn't work harden but it most definitely does. I annealing often.

That was painful to watch. This was actually a nice looking bar. I don't have anything against people melting bars to make jewelry. Since big jewelry brands do the same thing,vthats where they aquire their gold. And I actually plan on melting a few bars to make a ring my self. However, having said that, again this was a premium looking bar, and was totally wasted. They have plain bars with no designs or minimal design which would work perfect. Valcambi, Credit Suisse bars are a few i can think if top of my head. Relatively plain, almost m0ade for such a purpose. Again I'm not criticizing you, cause its your gold, it's your money, you are free to do whatever you like, just thought I'd mention that there are much plainer bars out there in case you weren't aware. Most important thing is you are purchasing gold, and thats what counts.
I bought for a good price. It didn't hurt my pocket book like anything else would have at the time. But I do see your point.

Wasting is debatable. The gold value was still there. At worst only wasted the premium of that bar. But the unknown is what I did with the gold next and did that bring me a larger premium? 😁

If it is authentic, then why are you playing around with it and smelting it if it is already pure. Or is that a stupid question? Why wouldn't you just buy a cast bar if you want to play around and save the premium?
