House: After Five Years of Living

- An exploration of the Eames House and Studio, made five years after Charles and Ray began living there. It is composed entirely of still images shot as 35mm transparencies by Charles between 1949 and 1955.
The glow of these images is beautiful-there’s nothing quite like slide film.
This goes out of its way to show that modern architecture doesn’t have to be sterile. The focus is the beauty of the natural environment and the occupants’ vibrant lives. Love how it compares the similar textures of the ceiling & pleated curtains.
This vid has more imagery of the elusive upstairs than anything else I’ve seen. Clever that the closets don’t go all the way to the ceiling-much like the closet downstairs. I’d still like to see how they handled the transition where the bathtub meets the exterior panel wall.
There’s a phone number visible at 8:03…EXbrook 31150. Definitely a different era when you wouldn’t show your bathroom, but your phone number was totally fine.
I love how well preserved the house is compared to 1955. It’s 75 years old, but still timeless
Went to a LACMA exhibit a few years ago where they had the furnishings of the Eames Home on display and was thoroughly captivated by what I saw. So incredibly cool, eclectic and comfortable at the same time. Fell in love with Midcentury Modern at that moment and am still a fan.
I showed this movie to a refrigerator box and now it's a darling little cabin.
The Style mix with Japanese, German, Mexican and even Scandinavian influences is astounding, Eames and other Midcentury Products and architecture.. timeless! 🟨🟦🟥
I've watched this for years. One of my favorite films. You can pretend you are in their home, looking at all their wonderful collections. The style is so unpredictable--but always curated in the Eames (Ray) style. ❤️
How amazing it must be to require (and be able to provide) this continuous assault on the senses, particularly vision. I first came to the Eames via their Powers of Ten short movie. (I can't bring myself to call it a video.) I tend to accumulate objects that appeal to my eyes or my sense of touch, even to my sense of analysis (mechanical puzzles).
this is a nice house but why did they have 21 eggs out
