Correct, just because he never used it, doesn't mean he didn't have one stashed away! As hinted in this video, there's no official canon explanation yet but after adding up a few sources, we can assume this is how Luke discovered it! 😊
I've always assumed each Jedi create multiple lightsabers at the end of each trial of their Jedi graduation. One for the end of padawan, Knighthood, and Master. So Yoda's lightsaber Luke got would be Yoda's knighthood lightsaber.
I always assumed that it was propaganda. Nobody ever said ‘yeah we killed yoda’ to the emperor so as a way to increase propaganda efficacy he just faked yoda’s lightsaber.
All the forms of current star wars media really need to keep each other in mind rather than doing their own thing, like the different locations Ahsoka killed her first inquisitor
my personal, nonsensical headcanon is that he simply built a new lightsaber for Grogu, based off of what documentation of Yoda's lightsaber he could find, probably through Huyang or old writings he uncovered.
But in the comics Yoda went on an entire force arc and struggled because he didn't have a lightsaber on degoba. He relearned to move fallen rocks off of him and even hunted a deer with a homemade bow and arrow
How did they manage To retrieve anakin's white saber. When luke had his hand chopped off on bespin? There's literally no solid ground anywhere on that planet
Hey he's not taking that stuff with him. So why not let Luke take it. First he graverobbing Obi-Wan Kenobi and now he stolen from Yoda while he was on his death bed like damn Luke is turning into a thief.
I just re-watched the scene multiple times . Yoda never retrieves his saber after his loss to darth sidious, what were seeing is his communication device, which he used to contact Senator Bail. He had two items on his belt after the fight, his communication device, which is sliver in color, and his homing beacon
It makes sense. He was a nearly 1000 year old Jedi master, the current grand master and he has a troubled warrior past. His fighting style is one of high agility, employing leaps to attack from multiple angles in a short time. It makes sense that he would have a trump card like a second Saber for duel wielding
Ghost Yoda: "Luke, in my hut, stole my lightsaber, did you? Hm?" Luke: "Yes, it is a fine addition to my collection" Ghost Grievous: "You fool, he has been trained in my collection arts by my brother, General Kenobi"

It's funny, they discarded the old EU because somethings didn't line up correctly, "too disorganized/contradicting", but Disney has done more contradicting since obtaining Star Wars than the 20+years of the old Expanded Universe. They were able to fix the three different Death Star plan storylines, one was some information but didn't contain data to destroy it, another was retconned as false blueprints and the other were the actual blueprints. The only other major glaring issue was one character(minor character) that died previously and was brought back in a book that chronologically took place after their death. Minor character that basically no one even noticed. Modern Disney doesn't even know how Shaak Tii dies, the old EU finally established it with Starkiller going after her. Right now, she's stuck between Grevious and Darth Vader(Anakin) in the temple from the cut scenes of Revenge of the Sith.
I heard somewhere (don't remember where) that Yoda's hovel on dagobah was powered by the power source from his lightsaber, so I always assumed he still had it just felt no desire to use it.
I doubt he ever had a reason to on dagobah, he could easily tame threatening creatures or use the force to repel them, and as he was hidden away there really wasn’t any threat
I just got this image of Luke ransacking Yoda's hut after he died. Yelling obsenities, or like "Where is it, you old kook???" Not cool, man... definitely not the path of the Light Side.
It was said in one of the books that a man had gone to Dagobah for something, I don’t remember the details, but hole he was there some bad guys came up against Yoda and he saw a blur of green light as Yoda essentially performed his gold-medal gymnastics act whilst simultaneously inventing chop suey… So he clearly had his lightsaber, but it was out of long years of depression and connecting with the Force that Yoda had put his lightsaber aside. The force eventually brought him Luke, and then Yoda showed that he could be just as patient in bringing the grand plan to pass as Darth Sidious had been, and by training Luke he won the fight in the end, just as he had the lightsaber portion of their duel in the senate chamber.
Honestly, I hate how this somehow ended up in the book of Boba Fett. You know a show that's supposed to be about BOBA FETT and not this crap that should've been saved for the mandalorian?
Bro Luke has a better collection than Grievous. In a Theory Luke used Qui Gons Lightsaber kyber crystal for his lightsaber. He used Anakins for 2 episodes. He took Yodas lightsaber.Bro stole everyones lightsaber.

Also he is going to preach to about attachments and potential harm to someone that was there when Darth Vader stormed the temple and slaughtered the Jedi shows how out of touch Luke became after the second Death Star. His main lightsaber was found in the senate building und later incinerated and the one luke had was his second lightsaber which he kept in his hut even tho he swore to never use lightsabers again
The size of the Kyber crystal wasn't smaller for Yoda! Only his hilt and his blade length was smaller. Yoda used a shoto blade which was a lot smaller than the average lightsaber blade!
Disney forgot that that comic existed by the time they made Book of Boba Fett, and from here on out, we will understand that Yoda always kept a spare lightsaber hidden somewhere in his clothes, unless we learn otherwise. This is the way.
“CGI error we made, roll with it we did”
you made me chuckle lmao
This and the writing oversights are 75% of star wars lore.
Hell nah he had 2 green light sabers cuz 2 light sabers is better than 1. Yoda was wise
As far as i know, the higher ranking jedi had 2-3 lightsabers in total so it's possible he picked up his second/ backup lightsaber

Just like Sidious having two!!!!

Disney: Um... just make some shit up, we don't care. This cash cow is disposable.
the simplest thing to assume is that the one palpatine took was a fake
...Or that comic was made without realizing that yoda still had his OG lightsaber...because almost none of SW lore is coherent nowadays.
The lightsaber Luke uses in return of the Jedi is not Yoda’s. That’s his own lightsaber.
Then why didn't Luke try to use Yodas Crystal
Wasn't his main lighsaber a shoto? So it would mean that sec8nd lighsaber was a regular one.
How did luke get yodas lightsaber? Doesn’t really matter we know Disney just doesn’t care about continuity.
