    Great video, but the "20" is the # of threads per inch on the bolt. Box quantity is 35.

    I nailed my knee one day on the bolt and said screw that. Went to Lowe’s and found the plastic knobs with the nut that worked perfectly. Different sizes and different installation methods. Good video.

    Love the video and ideas. I think I'm going to do the same with a drink holder and rod holder but do it by using nylon or plastic bolts instead. For me, I fear that people getting in and out of the boat may step on my drink holder in particular and I'd rather have the plastic bolt snap off than to have that person bend the crap out of the Versatrack slot.

    • @randyboyce1989

      Whole cow, this worked awesome. I bought the rod holder that he mentions in the video and the following hardware:
      For plastic bolts: www.amazon.com/dp/B00L1KZOEK?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
      For nuts: www.amazon.com/dp/B0B49XP4M4?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
      I have $18 in hardware but I have extras bolts & wing nuts to use for the next few items that I find to attach. I wanted plastic bolts so that they would snap off if someone accidentally step on the rod holder when getting into the boat and they also won't scratch the paint surface on the versatrack. Side note: The base of this rod holder has one side that needs to be the top, if you flip it it around it doesn't work very well, so play attention to that as it took me a few minutes to figure that out. Also after you've mounted the base, you have to push the rod holder piece down in the base at the exact rotational point to make grooves line up and then play with it a little by pulling it up slightly then and rotating it. Takes a little getting use too which is why I think some buyers give this rod holder bad ratings on Amazon.

    Someone once told me, "You know it's a great idea when you say to yourself, 'why didn't I think of that?'" 😁
    On the rodholders I would have knocked down the angled plastic gussets so the washers laid flat, letting the wing nuts get a better bite. But that's nitpicking...

      Watch the galvanic issues. If you crank a steel bolt too tight you could chip the paint and open it up for electron transfer. Maybe isolate with a rubber washer?

    • @JT_70
      @JT_70 3 роки тому

      Great idea using the Amazon rod holders. Another poster used similar ones from Academy Sports.I use stainless steel carriage bolts, nylon washers, SS lock washers and either SS nuts or plastic star nuts on my VersaTrack hacks. I added some magnetic tool holders (bars) from Harbor Freight to hold hooks and lures when I’m changing lures.

  • @guyh.4553
    @guyh.4553 4 роки тому

    Nice ideas. I'd suggest using shorter bolts. Also, add lock washers before the wing nuts. And FYI, the washers you're using are called fender washers. Love the box idea! Still don't understand the fascination with Go Pro's

    • @BPFlures
      @BPFlures  4 роки тому

      I did eventually change to shorter bolts. The box has been the best part of it all. I use it as in the moment storage for lures once I’m done with them. Saves time putting them back in the tray. I just do it at the end of the day. Thanks for watching.

    I think you need some longer bolts!! Why not cut them or use smaller bolts? For a aluminum boat you only want to use SS, after a few years there will be rust all over using steel bolts.

    Great ideas to save money on over priced versa track items, however using 2 in long carriage bolts is a hazard to your feet or shins moving about the boat. Also inside your mounted tool box, those bolts are gonna catch your hands or for arms. Enough said.

      Actually thinking about that for my Jon boat as we speak. I bet a pair of square tube base brackets, fastened to the tracks, with some cut-to-size 1.5" perforated tubes would work nicely. It'd have easily adjustable height/width using pins. Use steel for the walls/up-risers, and aluminum for the top/cross beam (could use either round or square with the proper corner fittings from Home Depot). Unless I'm trying to troll multiple 100lbs lines, I can't see any reason it wouldn't work.
