I have been in music for 30 years -- even working for a major label -- and never seen anything like Tatiana. I'm a pro at this and she blew me away and caught me off-guard.

This is the ultimate ‘bait and switch’ song, but not in a gimmicky way. The transitions are very much part of their music creating an extraordinary dynamic.
The switches are what they do best !
This band is so talented, that there truly is no such thing as a bad Jinjer song, or performance. From multiple time signatures to Tatiana’s amazing vocal range, it just keeps getting better and better. No 10 second pauses needed, she can transition from clean to growl to belt literally from word to word. Your observations and insight were spot on.
I am really looking forward to diving into more of their music. Just going off that 1 song they are so unique as i cant even compare them to anyone else at this stage. Appreciate the comment.
She does need a bit of time to go from growl to belt. But normal cleans to growls and back is almost instantly, and several songs she starts lines singing and the growls the end for emphasis. Examples Teacher Teacher either live or official, Captain Clock at Resurrection Fest, and especially Sit Stay Roll Over live in Melbourne which has more of her tricks packed into it than any other performance I've seen on video.

Vlad's kit is a bass, snare, two floor toms, hi hat and an array of Zildjian cymbols include multiple z bells. He's a huge fan of the Zildjian K custom dark series (has a K tattoo on his forearm). He also pitches the snare, floor toms, and cymbals away from him. Also plays open handed and is right hand dominant.

Great reaction! Trust me, you're going to enjoy this ride! To me, the funniest point of this video is the fact that it was recorded to be a focus on their new drummer Vlad. Dmitry Kim was the drummer for the official recording on their EP "King of Everything" but the band loved the small changes Vlad brought to the song, thus this recording. Their vocalist Tatiana had been doing her switches from cleans to extreme vocals for six or seven years at this point, granted she had improved over that time and has improved since. To be fair, this is their 'breakout' video from being a little known Ukrainian band, now well on their way to having worldwide fame. Concerning their previous drummer Dmitry Kim, he quit because he could not keep up with their unrelentingly brutal tour schedule at the time (and I don't blame him) but he not only retained a friendship with the band, but has been involved with the band doing some post production and sound engineering on videos for them. Though I still consider this song as 'good', it's a ways down my list of Jinjer songs. On the other hand, as a complement to their entire body of work, my least favorite song of theirs is 'good'. My first suggestions would be my favorite live recording (and 2nd favorite song) "Pit of Consciousness" live in Kiev, or my favorite song (and 3rd favorite live recording) "Perennial" live at Wacken. You'll see requests, usually for live, but sometimes for the official (for example, I prefer "Teacher, Teacher" official, but the live in Melbourne is still amazing) but if you like the song, on your own take the time to check out the 'other' version of the song.
Thats really interesting ! thanks for the band history, i immediately have a higher opinion of them now knowing they can keep the bond and friendship despite not playing together but continue to work together. So many bands crumble because there isn't any mutual understanding and things fall apart
Hahaha great reaction. Yeah Jinjer is a phenomenal band. They are from Eastern Ukraine, their names are Tatiana (vocals), Eugene (bass), Roman (guitar), and Vlad (drums). I've been a metal head for over 40 years, and I never liked "growling" vocals at all, then I heard Jinjer, by mistake actually (long story) and after I heard Tati and the guys, I said to myself, I don't know what I just saw and heard, but I think I love her LOL 😄😄😄 The very first song I heard from Jinjer wasn't Pisces, it was Perennial live at Wacken open Air 2019, which is also my next suggestion reaction for you. You'll get to see them do their thing in an actual concert setting, and lets just say you'll absolutely be blown away. Whatever Jinjer song you choose to react to, you won't be disappointed, every song is unique and different, some songs are really heavy, others are not, but each one is fantastic. They just released North American and European tour dates. Seen them twice and just bought tickets for this fall.

The drummer (Vlad) uses a minimal jazz-style setup, so others have said. He's a classical pianist turned guitarist turned drummer... a supremely talented guy.

The tuning that they use is Drop A to A-E-A-D-G starting from the lowest string on the bass I found out in one of their interviews

Btw the oscillating strings is a videography effect, not due to the downtuning of the guitar. It's called a rolling shutter effect. Basically the camera picks up a blur due to the shutter speed being set slower than the frame rate of the video. This is a common effect in most modern cameras because they process the image from top to bottom rather than all at once. Most videos opt for this because it's actually easier on the eye than a crisper image.
Nothing can prepare one for Jinjer.

Perennial Live at Wacken 2019 is surely great, but since it is a fairly quick jump from 2016 (Pisces vid) to 2019, I would suggest to watch Who is gonna be the one? Official Live 2017 first. Thanks for appreciation.

@@VonSchnitzelCrumREACTS Who's gonna be the one may be near in time, but it's galaxies away from Pisces... it's the on the harder side of their songs... Perennial is right in the middle, along with Judgement and Punishment... for harder songs, Pit of Conciousness, Outlander, Sit Stay Roll Over, The Prophecy, Homeback.. but as someone said before, there is not such thing as a bad Jinjer song...
And Tati's growl is all happening above the larynx, in the vestibular folds and the epiglottis. The vocal cords are completely open and it's actually atonal. She simulates "pitch" by manipulating the size and shape of the vocal tract to alter the resonance. But her vocal chords are not in play at all, which is why she is able to switch so easy and without fatigue.

Roman's guitar is tuned to drop A with a massive 14-68 string gauge.
That effect on the guitar string is partly due to the shutter speed on the video camera. That being said I think they tune down to drop B or A.
Vlad the drummer is IMO one of the best metal drummers at the moment. His style and setup is quite different though. He has two floor toms and a second hi-hat on a pedal remote. This video was made to introduce Vlad as their new drummer. The track is a live studio recording, but there are added som additional guitar and backing vocal tracks in the post production.
Their official live videos are high quality and really shows how great performers they are.
The youtube channel Gear Gods did a rig rundown with Jinjer. Also all of them has play through videos of some of their songs. If you feel like diving deeper into the nerdy stuff.

Check out their videos from Live in Melbourne (2019) I think. Once you’ve gone farther down the rabbit hole, you will be so disappointed you missed them. I found them about 6 months after they toured near me...I won’t miss the next chance!!!

Ok, the two handed bass playing is not about sustain, if you want sustain from your bass just plop some fresh strings on the blighter and you'll have sustain for days. Jinjer is a 3 man instrument section, lead guitar, bass and drums, you'll notice there's something missing there... where dat rythem guitar at tho? Well, that's where the double grip comes in, Eugene is playing both the bass-line with his left hand, and using his right hand to hammer-on little fills to suppliment what the guitar is doing, and thus, practically being both the bass player and rythem guitar in one.

Vlad uses 2 floor toms, but nothing mounted high. So his cymbals are all low. Interesting set up. He's actually a classical pianist that learned drums specifically so he could join Jinjer. And as it turns out he's an amazing drummer. He's also the only one in the band with formal training. the rest are self taught. which is why you don't hear solos or ego parts. They play super complex timings. Often no distinct down beat, everyone syncopated. This song switches between 7/8 and 12/8 timings.
This is one of the more toned down songs from Jinjer. Band members Eugene bass, Vlad drums, Roman guitar and Tatiana aka Tati vocals. I'm not even going to go out on a limb and suggest that they will be your newest favorite band.

The guitar tuning is actually not standard...I'm pretty sure it is drop A (AEADGB)
