  • For many years, I've enjoyed the Simpsons as a medium of entertainment, but as of late, I've slowly fallen off of the series, and in all honesty? It might just be more me than it.

Some people asked me why I didn't care for the simpsons now-a-days, so I figured... The best way to convey this was with a video.
I hope you guys understand where I'm coming from with this.
Thank you for your time, and please be sure to leave a like and a comment on the video :)

I was sad when I stopped watching the Simpsons because I didn't enjoy it any more but at the same time. I've made peace with it. I think I stopped watching around season 16 or 17. I just wasn't laughing and found things boring.
I have to think there new people watching it and loved season 10 through 20 or 21 through 30, and one day they will also stop loving the show. The cycle continues until it gets cancel.

They could've honestly just let The Simpsons age up, and then pass on the torch to a new family that reflects the type of new stories that they want to tell. Honestly, they kind of should've established that as a possibility since the beginning, the fact that The Simpsons aren't immortal unlike a character like Ash Ketchum or Lupin the 3rd or Mickey Mouse, Bugs Bunny, and more that I can't think of. Rather, they should've been more like Gravity Falls, Amphibia, and The Owl House, been given a sensible enough start to invest us into them, then go through a whole load of insane stuff, then end on an ending for them as someone else picks up their torch, rinse and repeat for every decade. Bam, the old Simpsons are untouched, and the newer storylines get their chance to shine.

I feel like tons of people are having that experience with Pokemon right now. Many of my real life friends had burned out on the franchise after 2008's Pokemon Platinum, and even most of my online acquaintances burned out on it by 2011's Pokemon Black & White. For me, it was my immense disappointment with 2013's Pokemon X/Y that made me realize that, regardless of how good or bad Pokemon would be in the future, my connection with it was lost and would likely never return. Having 2014's Alpha Sapphire as my final entry in the series only reinforced that sentiment - the original Sapphire from 2003 was my favorite entry in the entire series, but I felt none of that spark in the remake (despite being able to acknowledge what objective positives it had)
While I eventually picked up Legends Arceus in January 2023 and actually enjoyed it, most of my enjoyment was because its gameplay was so radically different from the main series. While I'd love another Legends-like game, I still have no desire whatsoever to revisit the main series
Meanwhile, although I'd left the Pokemon franchise nearly 10 years ago (save for Legends), I've remained in touch with diehard Pokemon fans who subjected themselves to Sword/Shield and Scarlet/Violet. And I just see them just 'going through the motions' with those modern mainline Pokemon games as you had with modern Simpsons eps. It's a level of indifference I'd never want to feel for any entertainment property, let alone one I loved so dearly in my youth. It's better to let go before that happens

But where The Simpsons’ humor changed in a way Kamen could no longer resonate with, Pokémon’s overall art style and way of taking the player on an adventure could no longer resonate with me. Even if Pokémon’s graphical issues didn’t exist and they had time to make a polished product, they established a direction with X/Y that I just couldn’t connect with, and every mainline game continued that particular direction. I really wish the Simpsons stayed as the animated 90s family what grew up over time in the 2000s that would have worked as the Simpson family would be way more relevant and relatable to the older audience which is what The Simpsons target demographic should be in the first place.
While the Simpsons Declined overtime shows like South Park are still going strong & honestly hold up alot better for both old and new fans of that show alike because that show mocks and calls modern Society out on its Total BS without sugarcoating it the south park writers are often clever and get the message across easy .
So the biggest problem with modern Simpsons is honestly the writers they can't make there older audience laugh and tell good jokes while still trying to stay relevant the new Simpsons often fail with story telling as they rely too much on the overused celeb guest apprences and even worse glorify modern culture which is not relatable to most families or people who grew up in the 90s early 2000s.
The show is mostly meh now as It feels like the new writers of the Simpsons really want you to forget about the past as they removed characters like Apu due to some stupid documentary while still targeting the Simpsons franchise towards kids rather than families as the writing feels really wacky & childish at times yet really boring throughout the later seasons so it sometimes fails to entertain the younger audience as well as it's focused on outdated trends which is a huge problem yes we still get some gems every now and again in the modern era of the Simpsons but it's nothing compared to the early seasons.
Honestly I stopped watching after season 25 came back to watch a bit of season 27 and recently have heard the newer seasons are good and are alot more wholesome like they used to be so I'm mixed on the franchise & its just too bad that I can't watch the newer seasons as I refuse to subscribe to Disney+
Yeah im really passionate about the show & would rather have new Physical media releases on DVD more Simpsons comics new episodes on channel 4 & the Simpsons movie 2 on the big screen should end the series on a high note that's all most Simpsons fans want.

Bro be dishing out existential crisis’ as a Christmas present 😂 jokes or semi jokes aside it was really brave for you to make a vid like this. I mean I know it’s not on the same level as other actual life changing self realizations, but having to admit something like falling out of love with something you held dear is commendable.
We all do but it really just a part of things I guess. In a way I think it’s harder with the simpsons because it’s lasted over what 30 years now? Jeez. It hard to let go as it is when certain franchises end like pokemon the original anime did, but harder when the series is still ongoing.
It reminds me a lot of Jerry Seinfeld, saying he quit the series at season 9 because he wanted to end it on a high note even when they were offered a 10th season.
I think their use of a floating timeline was too extreme. Pokemon has used it and is infamous for it, but they never tried to really mention time since after the kanto league. I mean I guess they reiterated ash was still 10 during B&W intro but they try to exclude stuff like “it’s been x years/days/etc” from the main anime.
And I think the reason why it affects the simpsons so critically is that its a series meant to try and keep with current society whenever it is. So it’s always forcibly having to retcon events because they’re too aligned with how it was set up.
There is also a shift that really have the characters. As someone would say, be satire parody versions of themselves in contrast to earlier.
    Either way great vid! 💯

I used to watch the Simpsons every time it was on TV with my father, right up until I became an older teenager (so around 15 or 16 years old I stopped watching it with him). I would still catch glimpses of it here and there. But now that I am 26 I don't feel any kind of connection to it whatsoever. I honestly feel it is just trash that is constantly trying to shove in celebrities in my face. I know older Simpsons did that as well, but I felt it was way more contained back then. Maybe it was the old look of Simpsons vs the scaleup they have done nowadays. Actual people looked more cartoony and more like caricatures back in the day rather than what they look like now.
But that is not really the main gripe. It is just I don't connect with what is going on in the show, especially since it seems to be connecting so much with zoomers or with millenials and honestly, I just don't care for it. Like you Manga, I also remember the past they showed of Marge and Homer and what they were doing before they met up with each other. I honestly connect way more with that than what they come up with nowadays. Maybe things were just simpler than they are now since we are grown up and don't have the benefit of viewing the world as children anymore.
But the Simpsons is just not a thing I can watch and connect with anymore~

The biggest thing is Homer's devolution as a character. He started off being someone who while not the brightest person still tried to do right by his family and wife even if the way he went about it was not the best. Modern Homer is just "Duhhh, me do dumb things!"
In a weird way, the show has come full circle. It started life as being a rebuttal to the idealized television family and counterculture with characters that had character flaws but were still endearing. It redefined television. Now though? It has become the very thing it once mocked. The characters now reduced to pale imitations or deluded.

I really hate it when sitcom characters who start out in a series with a calmer personality regress over the course of a show to be more psychotic, dumber, and in some cases more evil. It makes you appreciate the earlier seasons more when Homer wasn't this dislikable.

I stopped watching when hollywood arbitrarily decided that the VAs should match the race of the characters for some reason
obviously I have no problem with non white VAs getting work, I could take or leave the new Carl who was mostly silent for the few episodes where fox found "color appropriate" replacements but then the family visited hibert, he sounded terrible and the new guy couldn't even do the iconic laugh. if you can't endure a character or have someone new who doesn't know what makes that character special, then you have a problem
I pretty much stopped watching the other animated sitcoms too. they stopped being funny and well along with changing VAs for a very poor reason in my eyes there were one too many preachy simpsons episodes at that point, me and my brother used to watch together but the heart was gone from the series, seeming like every episode had some message rather than something that was actually funny

honestly i hate the logic that cause a show is episodic means lore doesn't matter.
no it simply means that each episode is a self contained story, that's it, that's why characters can still career change, remember past stories and even die.
because it is still the same characters, they continue to live their own lives, it's just homer having gone to space has nothing to do with barts antics at school.
the most agregious is when characters relearn the same lesson over and over but just relapse at the start of the next.
relapses happen but for example bart stealing is very infrequent and is always done by him craving to temptation, meanwhile marge continually learns the exact same lesson of needing to loosen up yet she never does.
but i think the most frustraighting thing is the floating timeline, because it gives as much investment as comic books do where events are rewritten over and over just to fit the current time period because the writers ran out of ideas that week, you are allowed to write these characters as if they still exist in the 90's, sure it would limit celebrity cameos and the ability to throw smartphones in as plot devices but... that would actually be an improvement, it'd actually require thought as to how they lived back then and would even allow future episodes to just be set in current day so we can get past the future tech that definitely won't exist and just focus on the more adult stories like the simpson kids struggling to connect with their own.

Peter let a Brian(who is already 7) into his family but when the Shower episode made a retcon Brian been with the Family since he was a puppy. Basically being taken away from Brian’s mom means nothing.
At least the only retcon Family Guy acknowledge is How Joe broke his legs. The did mention the Grinch.
Even Family Guy crossover with Simpson was not good. It half baked at best. Could’ve been a Movie.
I seen reviews on the latest episode about Meg no longer a punching bad. My thought is okay……

Yeah, the newer stuff is a little painfully weird at times but I do get a couple of favorite moments at times.

I was a huge fan a long time ago. I stopped watching when I realized I had been watching the show for years without so much as cracking at smile. If it wasn't funny or at least enjoyable anymore, why should I keep watching?
I've heard that it has "gotten better", but I find that very hard to believe. At best I would enjoy watching it for a little while until it just went back to being unfunny again.

It probably would have been better to allow the characters to age.

I've been wondering the difference between being cynical about certain activities you may have enjoyed in the past and simply just growing past them due to maturity and other new experiences.
Its inevitable in some cases such as long running shows that's just the natural cycle.
Watch numerous people talk about the Simpsons and you'll get a general consensus that the show is past its peak but it does throw out an interesting idea every now and then.

I honestly don't have much of an opinion of the Simpson series, most because I merely watch two seasons from not sure which ones exactly they were. But I watched over 40 episodes so that's basically two seasons worth of episodes. As well as the movie and even then. So my general thoughts on it is. It's a light hearted comedy show with some heartfelt moments on occasion. But usually end with the statis quo by the end of episode or episode set.
(I have however watched all of Futurama aside from the recent revival season that came out earlier this year.)

Some of the issues people complained about years ago have since been fixed (biggest example being Homer being a loving husband and father always trying his best again) while other have stayed the same or gotten even worse.
I like it, but's a lot easier to appreciate if you treat it as its own thing divorced from the older seasons, because it really is a completely different show nowadays.

i mean they can either keep the show set in the 90s forever and not have anything from the present or have it set in the present and retcon the character's past to have it make sense
either way is kinda weird and the second is the only way to do it if you want the show to stay current
also getting mad at the show for making homer and marge millennials when millennials are homer and marge's age now is kind of a dumb criticism and makes you sound like a literal boomer
