Bernard Schriever was a modern hero....he managed multiple missile programs under impossible time constraints working with unproven technology and did it with slide rules and paper tape. From idea to operational ICBMs in 5 years.

Little is known or remembered of Thor sixty of which were stationed here in the UK from 1958 to 1963.

They would probably have been used, along with Victor & Vulcan bombers, if the Cuban Crisis had developed into a war. Harrington RAF base is not far from where I live, it was a UK Thor base. It has been preserved as a grade 2 listed site, farmers and landowners cannot dismantle or destroy it, it is a historic monument, as such.. not much remains of it but it is recognisable as a Thor launch site, the concrete structures remain

@@smitbar11 Thanks for your input. As a teenager I grew up in North Lincolnshire surrounded by Thor and V sites and family holidays were spent at Flamborough, E Yorks ditto. My late Father in Law as Chief Tech RAF worked on Thor through the entire project which included two trips to the US for him. We had many chats about his service which led to my interest in the subject.

I’m glad someone had the idea back then to document all this stuff. Who were these documentaries made for? I can’t imagine this stuff would make good television

These documentaries were made for congressional oversight committees mostly. They needed to update the folks who wrote the checks for the many defense research programs.
The point was to highlight the positive aspects of the specific weapon to keep the $$$ spigot open.
There were other documentaries that were made for the various departments and end users of the product. They had to give the most easy to understand nuances and operational details to the thousands of enlisted up to Generals in language that was easy to understand.
I hope that helps answer your questions.
