    I've been on this lovely planet for over 67 years, and have seen many great companies with good products go down the drain. A constant and unwavering reminder that failure to meet changing markets and customer expectations will result in shattered dreams and shuttered facilities.

    I appreciate your videos, but here's my feedback on this situation:
    - First, I think it was a poor choice to post a video of rumors that were not substantiated. If Dartzeel was having money issues, it doesn't help them to post negative rumors.
    - Second, I humbly disagree that a company needs to make affordable products. I will never afford most of the things I see on this channel, but I can still appreciate the cost-no-object pieces of art these companies produce. I think forcing a company to make affordable products only lowers the quality and reputation. There are hundreds of other companies with plenty of price points to choose from.

    Jay I would like to offer some serious comment not so much on Dartzeel but on all manufacturers who charge ridiculous amounts of money for theit audio products. An Audio designer and a friend of mine who designs very good quality amplifiers has said if you wanted to build an all out amplifier using the finest components readily avaliable , not exotic hard to procure parts , such an amplifier should cost no more than $5000 in parts . To prove his point he has built a pair of Class A Tube Amplifiers using the 13E1 Tube. They are magnificent sounding and it is hard to justify spending any more money.
    The whole audio industry could do with a big shake up and a big reality check on the outrageous prices many of them charge. We are living in hard economical times and it is time for audio companies to tighten their belt and offer superb products at realistic prices. They have been goughing gullible audiophiles for far too long !

      A lot of us know this. I don't let anyone, especially someone that refers to themselves as an audiophile, tell me what equipment to buy, why it's worth the obscenely ridiculous cost, why it sounds better, what music to listen to, how to listen to that music and whether I should like that kind of music or not. So, I'm not going to tell them what to buy. It's their money, their mistake, they can do what they want.

    • @andrewchen8125
      @andrewchen8125 8 годин тому

      If manufacturers priced products solely based on parts costs alone, no one would innovate! R&D costs money. The more unique a design, the more money R&D costs, and lots of it over long periods of time which needs to be recouped. That's not to say there aren't manufacturers taking advantage with no real R&D involved and high cost compoents, plenty of those around (just look at the Audio Server manufacturers - no innovation and yet charging as much as $100,000 for a Server with $5,000 in parts!)

    • @sidvicious3129
      @sidvicious3129 5 годин тому

      You mentioned 5,000 in parts, does that cover, the employee medical benefits, 401k, dental and other insurances, building and manufacturing cost for R&D. When you have a successful business and have employees, you can’t just think of parts alone and just quote that because it takes more than parts to run a business not to include quarterly business taxes, warranty and repair cost, because you must have parts on hand figured into that equation. How about an advertising budget and products to send around for that.
      This is not to mention cost for a lawyer to defend you in case of lawsuits from your employees and customers. When you get bigger, possibly a human resource department. People don’t build anything and sell it for parts alone and the more exotic the parts, when they are ordering in small numbers the more the cost. What about lights, gas, rent if you are renting a business or taxes if you own a business for that building.
      These are all factors that a layman never considers when figuring out why things cost what they do. You have to ask yourself would you like to be paid less for what you do and not be able to feed your families so that the business can stop complaining about how much they are paying you.
      Now what I’m not going to do is justify how expensive some of these audio products cost and tell anyone if they are worth it or not, because let’s be real, these are depreciating products. If you can wait any of these products will go down in cost. Each person has to decide a products value for themselves that’s part of being a responsible adult and not complaining when others have more and spend more. My brother just bought a Porsche 911 two weeks ago and let’s just say that it’s quite expensive.
      It isn’t for me or my other brother to tell him that his car is too expensive and he shouldn’t have bought it. He is a responsible young man, both of my brothers are, he has a beautiful home in an expensive neighborhood as well and his wife drives an expensive car. I don’t tell my brothers what to do or how to do it and I will never tell another adult including Jay or any audiophile what to spend.
      Overall I’m happy for my brother as his knock about or beater car is a very nice Audi and I’m happy for Jay and OCD Mikey and anyone else. My brother insured me that he isn’t done, his next car sports car will be a McLaren. You only live once and as long as you are not robbing banks for your hobby why should anyone else care, let’s be happy for people and not jealous as it takes nothing away from none of us to do so.

    • @Coneman3

      I believe that the ‘overpriced’ very high end components may be better but probably not by much. But they are definitely overpriced even though very small sales volumes partly explains the high prices. It’s a vicious circle increasing prices and I suspect that sales in high end are only good with mega bucks components bought by super rich audiophiles. This is a shame because it stops many keen audiophiles getting what they want. However, I have personally experienced big reductions in prices of mid hi end because sales there are very slow.
      This situation probably reflects the very divided societies we live in, and the lack of younger people who can afford to get into this hobby.

    You made an ass of yourself desperately fishing for content. You rushed to publicize a rumor that was now refuted and you rightly feel embarrassed. This video is just posturing, trying to save face. I don’t know this man Herve, but I agree that he doesn’t need to justify anything to you or a hoard of people on the internet who probably never even heard of the brand before your video. No one wants the elite level of components to go away. Their existence isn't a problem. We all love those components.
    It's their ridiculous pricing structure that's the problem.
    I don't know why companies believe it is in any way sustainable to price something MULTIPLES more than what it should be, when it's already expensive.
    This industry needs to change in that regard.

    In any industry, there's need to a brand that builds state of the art equipment, price not being an issue. This defines for the rest of the industry what's achievable.
    Probably not a good idea to get rid of Steinway and Bösendorfer pianos, although not many people can afford them.

    Dartzeel realigning their brand to low-cost components is a disaster for owners of current Dartzeel products, because even this statement of intent will dramatically affect the resale value of all products already built and in the marketplace; the buyers of those products are the bag-holders of that depreciation. The appropriate thing to do would be to keep the Dartzeel brand focused on the products it has made, and form a new brand or even a new separate company to manufacture anything that is at a lower positioning in the market. If Dartzeel will not be making any more products at the same high level of design and execution as before, it would be prudent and respectful to CLOSE the Dartzeel company and form another company with another brand, so that the activities of Herve Deletraz toward low cost products will not dilute the value of the Dartzeel audio products already sold.

    Maybe they need a new investor. But sounds to me more like they are not producing any goods and they are pretending to be doing business. So they can delay times and try to take care of the potential regal issues before closing down the business completely. Won't be surprised if we don't see their name anymore after a couple of years. I don't mind some high end manufacturers going out of business. Maybe this industry needs lessons so they cannot charge insane prices for old technology that was completed 40,50 years ago and make decent business that way (over a million $ cartridge was a joke that's not even funny).

    I do not want them to be gone. I just want them to be realistic, not outrageous with their pricing. Most people interested in this hobby know that a lot of the ultra high-end do not get close to a proper value-performence/price ratio. I have to agree with OCD Mike. Most (not all) of these companies are just preying on people with FU money, who do not know any better, with overpriced old tech in fancy casework. Well, now the reality of economics is setting in. The market will always pick the winners and losers.

    Swiss high end companies primarily produce for the North American and Asian markets. The slowdown of the Chinese economy on the one hand and the Swiss Franc getting stronger against the USD (as well as the Euro etc) on the other hand puts increased economic pressure on these companies, maybe too much in the case of Dartzeel. As it is not a publicly traded company, we can only guess.

    Hopefully, the rumor mill has spiked a short rise in sales for them, and helps them fund moving forward with a new plan. It is great to have very high standards for your products, and that should not change (electrically). Dart has been very instrumental in quality and what High End is. Hopefully there are little to no sonic compromises with their new products, even better, new discoveries to share at affordable pricing for more people. I have high hopes for them.
