I went to a high school in Oklahoma in mid-00's. There were three Asians and people often said to me, "man, your English is good. Where did you learn it?" My response, "uh, Seattle." "WOW, you guys have a town call Seattle in Korea??" 🙄🙄🤦
to someone who is mixed (mostly asian) and haven't been to the US whatsoever, I'm really planning to but like, I don't want stuff like that to happen qwq
@@annelocked It probably doesnt happen as much anymore, even though the 2000s werent that long ago relatively speaking, there definitely was a change in mentality and image of asian americans throughout the years.
Hello Kate Choi. I am Korean who is two kids mom. I am posting the comment to say i am so lucky to know your channel because it's really helpful for my English learning. Your videos are really interesting and touching and makes me keep watching over and over. I am very eager to improve my English and now I find a perfect content for my learning. Your channel is very authentic and meaningful to me. I especially watch this clip more than 5 times shadowing. Your accent and pronunciation is very clear and the way you talk sounds intelligent so I fall in love with your channel. Thanks a lot :)
I'm Asian Australian, and growing up in my primary school years I also experienced situations where I'd be embarrassed to call my mum by how I address her at home simple because it wasn't 'Mum'. Interesting to reflect back on it now since I hadn't really thought about it until you mentioned it! And I can totally relate with the constant appreciation and thankfulness I have towards my parents who started from scratch in a new country and worked hard to build a future for us children. Thanks for the video.
Love listening to your voice. So beautiful sounding, bet you could get a job having to do with speaking. You seem like a very intelligent young lady. Good luck in your endeavours.🤓
There were almost no Asian Americans in my elementary school too, but I didn't notice until I went to college and saw there were a lot of Asian Americans there. Thanks for sharing your story, I learned a lot~
Look at u, how can u not love the way u look.. ur so beautiful.. we shud never feel any less than other ppl.. firstly we shud be immensely grateful for being healthy alive and humans.. nth else really matters its US who makes our lives happy or miserable. Just love urself n be happy the way u are. And u really are beautiful💖💖
Thank you very much for sharing your story. I was born and raised in Korean and came to Australia 5 years ago when i was 30 years old. It is different from you but i can somehow relate to your story and i was struggling with language barrier and how i look and culture here but i now started accepting who i am and am so proud of being Korean. Kchoi! I love your channel and hope you are having a lovely day❤️💕
Hello, I am another Choi from S.korea. I started to subscribe you video to learn English, but there are a lot of things to learn from your video except language. You have appearance what I wanna be, I think people are jealous of what they don't have, even people who look like they have everything. Well, happy to be watching you video again:) Thanks for uploading new video!!
This is not the first time that I have a story like this; I had a Korean friend that had tried suicide a few times. She was really ashamed of not being to fit it as a Korean and said that she was going to save up and get her eyes done to look more white. I argued with her so hard to try to make her understand that she comes from a great people. Koreans are some of the most beautiful people on earth and probably my favourite Asian group to study. There is no reason to feel that you have to match up with ANYONE else.
shughl1 I’m Cambodian French and Vietnamese I think everyone is pretty in their own particular way and it’s kind of offensive to say that Koreans are some of the most prettiest, everyone is pretty in my opinion ( no hate just saying )
I have a similar story. Now I have become interested in the history of Korea, how my Korean people live and I feel how the emptiness has begun to fill within me. This is a strong feeling. It is a pity that this did not happen before.
This is why if possible Asian American kids should grow up among other AAs. I had the same trauma and made sure my kids didn't until they were old enough to handle it without trauma.
Hi, I'm glad I found your channel! I hope to one day create a channel like you and educate others about my week in my traveling job in pharma and share my Korean American culture. Thanks for sharing!
Oh...your korean voice... so attractive! Being identified by nationality or biological features is not enough. I think after all, all individuals are shaped by their memories and what they have done/gotten.
I just love seeing more and more content created by asian creators! I wish I had more of this growing up but oh well--grateful for having experienced what it's like to be 1 of very few people who look like me in various settings like elementary through middle school.
Hi! Loved this video and it really hit home as I'm Asian American myself and you've articulated really well what I've been feeling and what I've experienced too.
Hi! I’m a college student from Japan and I wish I could’ve come across this video much earlier. Even though i can’t imagine how much you’ve gone through during your preadolescence, I found you extremely strong, and this video was kind of emotional for me:) Idk why but I love me learning english through your channel, and thank you so much for creating great videos all the time👍
Your video is such a helpful one. It helps me realize a lot of things. It also let me know that theres someone out there who has something in common as being an Asian as me. Actually, i’ve always loved being an Asian. I dont really hate any certain parts on my face as well as my body compared to the other races. The only thing is that im an immigrant. I’d say that im fluent in English right now but sometimes it can somehow be a barrier for me. And since i wasnt born here, i really have no clues about American cultures. My school also dont have that much Asians. I literally have always wished to have a group of Asian friends because i will identify with them better even tho we might have different backgrounds. I mean i still get along with other races but i often feel left out. Anyways, u have such a cute voice and i love it :)
The video always makes me relaxed and lets me escape for about 10 mins from the work. I don't know why I am inspired by your sharing for many times even though it was just like a small chatting and you didn't say any serious thing. Anyway, all the best on your work and life. Cant wait to see your next video :-)
oh my god your Korean is SO SO SO SO SO GOOD especially for second generation immigrants where parents can speak good english, it's difficult to develop Korean skill. damn way to go!!
So great that you finally uploaded the video. Have been waiting for quite long time. Please come more often, you're such an inspiring young lady and I love the way you speak and think.
I am the first generation of immigrant to Australia, and I have to build a daily routine of learning English. However, I feel lucky to live here and enjoy the challenge. BTY, I am also a consultant after I finished my Ph.D.
Asian girls have smooth skin in general. I guess that is a tradeoff if big blue eyes are preferred. You are cute, smart and sincere. I am first gen immigrant, enjoyed your videos a lot.
I watched your video a long time ago and i lost it from my previous channel, i finally found it again and now I'm able to receive your videos again if you are still active of course because its been a while since i lost your channel
Cool video :D . I'm half white and half asian. When I was growing up, I was used to people who are white because of school and friends. But as I began to travel more within metro vancouver as I aged I noticed there were more asians outside my city which at first was kinda weird but got used to it after a while.
I'm living in Korea and my English skill was evaluated as native from many native English speakers but I have a very little chance to speak English in here even though I meet foreigners. Most of my foreigner friends came to Korea to study so they want me to speak Korean to enhance their Korean skills. I see many foreign students who possess close to native Korean level and they said that it was pretty easy to learn Korean even in their country because of the technology prosperity.
