as someone who grew up Christian(and still am), i think the whole motif of 'save yourself until marriage' can be really damaging. I have heard so many stories of people who get married and still think of sex as something wrong and dirty, and can't enjoy it to the full extent. The fact that they drill it into our brains that sex is bad and dangerous even affected me when I was young(I'm over it now, thank God), and it affects so many other people, mostly girls, which is I guess what the church wants, but it has so many long lasting negative effects. Also, I feel like a lot of people then think 'marriage = sex' instead of looking at marriage as a lifelong commitment to someone you love. I was at youth group one Sunday after a marriage had taken place the day before between two of our leaders, and one of the kids said "Well, we know what they did last night" and thats NOT a healthy mindset for teenagers to have! They're gonna end up in an unhappy marriage at a young age because they wanna fuck, and thats not good!!! Thank you for coming to my ted talk.

But that’s just me and honestly, since I’ve started doing that I feel a lot better, I have a lot less stress and my self-confidence grew for the first time in years. I'm not a religious woman, however I do remember reading an article on comso about a Christian woman who actually developed vaginismus (a condition where the vagina spasms involuntarily and basically makes penetrative sex impossible/highly painful) due to the stigma of having sex before marriage in the Christian community. The article said it took over about three years to finally train her vagina to not lock up involuntarily. A lot of comments seem like they feel bad for them and are just about how it's probably not a good idea, because marriage is kind of a big deal especially when you don't believe in divorce, so it's generally wise to get as close with each other as possible before deciding to marry. Kissing is like the base level of a relationship whereas marriage is pretty much at the top.
