There's the ideal scenario and there's practical constraints. Campaigning all around the United States takes a lot of cash. It has to come from somewhere. Also, a lot of the campaign money comes from individual contributors contributing less than $200 (about 41% for Harris so far). That at least says citizens also had a say in the campaigning money equation. To make it seem like it's all corporations is disingenuous. Also, if one could just buy up the presidency, Donald Trump would have this one pretty secure, wouldn't he? But, even with all the money in the world, people have their say on election day.

At its core, wealth and power dictate the rules of the game. Voting feels more like a performance -- we’re choosing from candidates they’ve already picked for us. The real decisions are made by those who can afford to bankroll campaigns, and the systems meant to keep them in check are just as compromised, kept alive by the very advertising dollars that fuel this cycle. It’s a disturbing realization, but it’s hard to ignore when you see how money flows and controls every aspect of our so-called democracy.

There NEEDS to be a spending limit, and stronger limitations on advertising standards for political campaigns.
In the UK, campaign signs aren't even allowed to be kept up for more than 2 weeks past an election, TV adverts are outright banned outside of very specific Party Political Broadcasts, and spending is limited to £30m in general elections.

@@Flash3-22 I certainly wouldn't suggest that the USA should have as small a budget as the UK, but there absolutely should still be a limit regardless of size.
