Is the lens still going to be able to open all the way up to 1.4? I heard there are some issues with regular adaptors
Can this process be done to a breech lock 50 1.4 SSC ?
a have one vivitar lens for fd canon 70x210 4.5 this is adapter is compatible?
Hello, can i use this kit with Canon FD 400mm L 2.8 ?
Is there a place in mexico i can send my 60mm 1.2 lens to be converted to ef??
I have a 50mm f1.4 FDn version and I cannot find the aperture control arm to finish the conversion same goes for my 135mm f2.5 ssc 😢 i have a 3d printer but I can find the STL for it or anywhere to buy it
How do we know is working? Yo not tested it
Awesome neat video thank you . But , Im having issue of infinity focusing . any ideal why ???
Hi, where can I get the parts like the arm you added to the ring and the EF mount? Would appreciate your help. Thank in advance.
If you remove the little ball bearing, would that declick the aperture for DSLR video work?
That magnetic little dot you had to explain for a second there: is that the same thing that we would remove to declick the aperture?
Hello. The little can shaped thing on the underside of the external aperture ring control, yes.
I've de-clicked my lens and I need the little fiddly thing to latch on to the aperture pin, but I don't want to do the EF conversion. Is there a place preferably in europe/germany where I can get those?
Your help would be much appreciated!
Not sure what lens parts you're referring to but The LensDoctor in the UK might be able to help.
Hello.
I want to convert a Sigma 400mm 5.6 apo FD lens to EOS, EF.
It is also possible where I can order the part for the conversion.
Thanks
Hello, I'm pretty sure my conversion kit (parts) will not work on any lenses but the Canon lens they were designed for. However, if you interested in modifying one of my kits to work on your Sigma you can certainly order one. I can't accept a return based on this application.
Trying to convert the 20mm f2.8 and the piece that I was sent is not the same as the brass-looking piece you have in this video. Do you have any updated videos or instructions to follow? Just getting a piece of paper to watch a video that isn't relevant to the conversion kit I was sent isn't helpful.
The current design eliminates the need for the brass part. Simply remove the aluminum ring that that the brass part would have mounted to and instead use the provided replacement ring. The FDn 150-600mm video has a similar replacement ring design.
What is the benefit of this over a using an adapter?
much better image quality, wider field of view. adapters require internal optics to achieve infinity focus. those optics kill the IQ and end up "zooming" in the image a bit. this mod is a far superior way to use vintage glass on a modern camera.
The conversion maintains the original crop factor and infinity focus. All adapters will change the focal length of the lens. Adapters have to move the lens further away from the EOS body. This turns a 50mm into a 55mm or more. Because of this change in focal length, the lens can no longer focus to infinity. This limits how far your subject can be from you and still have them in focus.
hello my friend, do you have a kit for the old FD 50mm 1.4 SSC?
+Curso da Prova Específica did u got an answer ??? i have the same lens of yours
No, this lens have a rear element mounted in the mount. This means that a special mount is needed to hold the rear element in the proper position.
I use fuji as a camera, should i convert my fdn to ef and then use a adaptor or just go with a fd to fx adaptor?
I would love to sell you some conversion kits, but if the FD to FX adapter is glassless and still allows for infinity focus, use the FX adaptor.
Hi where you are located . I’m in Uk, i would like to do this to my old lens.
I'm in UK too. It seems like the product comes from USA. Would love a UK based version.
@@iJason111 Look on shapeways.com for FDn to EF Mount, you can order a 3d printed one from NL. its never gonna be as solid as this, but worth a look in you are in europe.
FD and EF have different flange focal distance. So image from infinity cannot be converged to the senor.
Hey! I was wondering if it is possible to use this conversion on tokina lens with fd mounr, since it is the same mount. Do you have any idea? Thank you!
The internal design of the Tokina lenses if different than the Canon Series lenses and any kit designed for Canon will not work on another brand lenses.
@@fdtoef i see, Thank you for answer. Im using the tokina 17mm instead of the fd, as cheaper option. Really like the look of it
Have you ever had a problem with screws that were frozen... unable to be loosened?
Yes, and there is no single solution. It is always best to start with high quality JIS screw drivers, not Phillips screw drivers. Apply constant downward pressure on the screw driver, while turning the screw driver. If this initially does not work I apply a tiny bit of liquid wrench penetrating oil, let it set for a few days and try again. Another approach is to use a narrow tip heat gun to apply heat to the screw. Even with all this I’ve snapped off a screw on my FL 600mm focal unit. I’ve yet to fix it. Fused screws is always a risk with these older lenses.
@@fdtoef #2 JIS? & have you ever tried using an impact driver... ever so lightly!
@@roehaus1 It depends on the screw size, but a 2.5mm or 3mm JIS are the two I use the most. I haven’t tried an impact driver yet. I’ll have look into that.
Has anyone done this with the FD 85mm 1.2 L ? I don't want to screw that beauty :/
It won't work with that lens, because it have a rear element mounted in the mount. This means that a special mount is needed to hold the rear element in the proper position.
OK I'm going to have nightmares all night now
Yes, BUT! Will this converted lens focus to infinity? That seems to be a problem with FL and FD lenses.
Yes, that is the reason for changing the mount, to correct the flange to focal distance so that infinity focus is possible.
Interesting Marty. How does changing the mount correct the 6 foot max distance to the infinity focus? I don't understand how this works. Can you break it down for us?
Yes. The conversion plate servers two primary purposes, enable the physical mounting of a FDn lens to a Canon EOS body and more importantly corrects the Flange Focus Distance. Correcting the Flange Focus Distance of the lens for the EOS body is what enables the ability to focus to infinity. I won’t go into all the details about Flange Focus Distance (FFD), but I will say the FDn lenses are design for a 42mm FFD and the EOS bodies are designed as 44mm FTF distance. This means the EOS bodies place the lens 44mm aware from the sensor, but the FDn lens needs to be placed 42mm away from the sensor to focus as designed. The conversion plate places the FDn lens 2mm closer to the bodies sensor, then the original mount could have. This is why the cheap screw on adapters don’t give you infinity focus, they don’t move the lens 2mm closer, but instead makes the FFD worst by adding to it, taking away even more focal range.
That is the kind of answer I was looking for. Good Job!
I have the Canon FL 55mm F1.2 Fluorite Lens elements 1968 (1.05822 lbs) and have been interested in a way to use it without including more glass in an adapter, cheap glass. Do your kits work for my lens? I have a Canon 2000D which is a ASP-C sensor. Can you add a link to that kit for us.
Do these work for FD lenses as well or is this specific to FDn?
Marty Castilla awesome! Do you know if there’s any issues with focusing to infinity or the glass hitting the sensor? Hoping to mod a few FD sets that I currently have
@@dq72491 The kits are designed to enable infinity focus. All APS-C body mirrors clear. On full frame bodies, a few of the normal and wide angle lenses limit mirror moment at the infinity end of the lenses focal range. This is easily over come by using LiveView mode.
fdtoef great! Thx for the reply. So I’m mainly going to use these lenses for video/cinema. Do you know if there are issues with full frame cinema camera bodies such a as the Blackmagic Ursa Mini Pro 4.6k G2?
@@dq72491I'm not aware of any issues, but I also don't have any experience or knowledge on non-Canon bodies or mounts.
Nice skill.
