In this video, I take a pair of thrift store shorts and turn them into a classic straight skirt with straight front and back seams. Transform you shorts into a skirt that looks like you bought it at a retail store as a skirt. No DIY look to this project. Its quick and easy, so I hope you enjoy this project. Thanks for watching! I know this is an older tutorial, but your tutorial is the best that I’ve seen. Most tutorials only seam rip the crotch and sew, and the dress looks a little wonky. Your tutorial shows how to seam rip to make it look like the item was a skirt. I’m giving this a try with a pair of shorts and a pair of pants that I have that I want to “thrift flip”.

I do the same thing with sweatpants after I cut off some of the leg material. I wear it with boots and a matching sweatshirt. I also had to do the same thing with several pairs of wool slacks after the moths ate big holes in the lower legs.

I bought a pair of men's Tommy Bahama swim trunks on sale, and wanted to make them into a skirt. I watched several how to videos, and yours was the best, by far. I did exactly as you instructed, and now have an adorable skirt in an octopus print, with utility pockets and panties inside. My husband thinks I am very clever!

The shorts need to be big or bigger than your size to make them into a skirt since a smaller size may make the skirt too tight.

I really love your videos. You make everything you do so simple for those with no sewing experience. I love the creative ideas you have for refashioned clothing. I have started following your footsteps in doing the same. Now my family and friends are keeping me very busy in redesigning clothing for them. Please keep the creative ideas flowiing. I love your work.

Its an inexpensive way to learn to sew, improve your sewing skills, and get new things to add to your wardrobe. YEAH...so excited that you're refashioning. Would love to see pictures...you can tag pictures to my FB page if you want. Take care and I hope you had a GREAT day! HUGS :)

Needs to be pinned down before cutting to keep material in place when cutting.
