- Before she teamed up with William Orbit, Madonna recorded some demos with Babyface for her new album that would become Ray Of Light. Madonna abandoned the project because she thought the songs resembled Bedtime Stories too much. However, Like A Flower hardly sounds as anything on Bedtime Stories, nor did it deserve to be totally rejected. Too bad she didn't use it as B-single or as bonus track on GHV2, because it's a beautiful ballad. The demo surfaced on the Internet mid 2002.
Madonna did give the song to another artist to record. In 2004, Italian singer Laura Pausini made her own version in Italian, titled Mi Abbandono A Te, which she used on her album Resta In Ascolto.

Madonna wrote this lovely song with Rick Nowels who is one of the few men to give Madonna her props as a great songwriter. I immediately love him just for his insistence that Madonna is a great pop melodist and brilliant lyricist. Together these two wrote some truly lovely songs.
Rick nowels is amazing. His work with Lana del rey was perfection.
