I can tell that you haven’t been to Alaska. I have. Many times and seen Bald Eagles many places and plenty of them! Yes. While they are the most regal, majestic & magnificent bird of all, that’s a hard image to live up to all the time. Go up on the Kenai Peninsula & you’ll easily see hundreds of if not thousands of bald eagles all over. Summers are short and the gettin’ is good so everyone is busy putting on weight & finding a mate before the snow flies. 5 species of Salmon come in from the sea and run up the rivers during 4 summer months. I’ve actually seen rivers so thick with fish that it was solid fish, shoulder to shoulder across the entire river! No exaggeration. Lots of fish & a few days or weeks to go upstream, spawn and die. Their dead bodies float back out to sea and provide nutrition for everybody & everything along the way. Including the Majestic Bald Eagle. But they aren’t stupid! They’re not going to the effort to chase down & kill dinner, if something just as good is floating on by. Yep our Beautiful Baldies will gladly munch down on carrion as well as any old leftovers if they’re available. I’ve seen them getting fat & lazy, and like most birds. Will walk or run rather than fly. Think about it and you can easily imagine that it takes a lot of energy to get those big birds up and off the ground into the sky if they can just walk over to where the food is - Think about it and you can easily imagine that it takes a lot of energy to get those big birds up and off the ground into the sky - and if they can just walk over to where the food is, why fly? I can't even express how amazing it is this job! I would do anything to be able to work like that.. Too bad there are no raptor centers in thousands os quilometres or I'd be in the volunteer line tomorrow morning! Congratulations to the Alaska Raptor Center, you make the world a better place for an amazing animal, not only by directly dealing with the injured animals, but also by education ppl about them!
We had to rescue and return 2 eaglets they were found on the ground near a hiking trail on Olympic peninsula. When the volunteer got up to the nest to put the chicks back he found a pile of many small harnesses and collars with dog and cat tags.🤷🏼♀️
I wonder what she feels about the attention and cameras.. for some reason I feel that she likes it that people are admiring her and seeing how amazing she is..
❤ Love your wildlife , not only eagles ❤ Stop polluting and developing in their environments. If everyone REALLY CARED , you would leave spaces just for wildlife , fish , bison etc ❤ places that are pristine ❤
She is beautiful. Mom and I want to go to Alaska but she also wants to go through the Panama Canal and spend a week in CA since my sister and her family lives there. I live in FL and I saw my first wild bald eagle a few months ago and it was exciting. Had to wait for him or her to take flight because from our side we could only see their rear end but when they flew it was amazing. Where we live we have so many birds including hawks, eagles, cranes, herons, and more. It’s amazing by our pond here.
