    I like how these bass drums have actual bass and has that vibration feel
    I can't stand an "over muffled" bass drum

    does third bass usually count off?

    • @epicapple101
      @epicapple101 7 років тому +1

      solitude they have 6 basses, it might be a bit weird for bass 3 to tap off

    • @jacobruiz97
      @jacobruiz97 3 роки тому

      In this case, yes, since he was the section leader. But in a standard 5-man bassline, it's almost always bass 2 that counts off.

      @@coIbyjmmusic that doesn't answer his question though. To answer this guy's question, It's because bass 3 was chosen to be section leader that year. The section leader isn't always bass 2, It just so happens to be with high school lines that the best person is usually the oldest and therefore able to split well, and that's why they're on bass 2 instead of anything else. In this hypothetical bassline I'm talking about and really with all high school basslines in general, The 2nd bass is section leader and 2nd bass for different reasons. Watch Mandarins 2018 bassline and you'll see that bass 4 was the section leader that year.

    • @jacobruiz97
      @jacobruiz97 3 роки тому

      @@Mikey-og4my So in this case, was Bass 3 the hardest part, since the hardest part is usually allocated to the section leader?

    • @Mikey-og4my
      @Mikey-og4my 3 роки тому

      @@jacobruiz97 Not necessarily. Listening to the lot it sounds like Ike wrote equally hard parts for 2 and 3. The hardest part is just usually bass 2 because they have the highest pitch and are able to play upbeat splits that sound good when between 1 & 2. This bassline had 6 members so the sound balance was probably thrown off a bit with the harder splits being able to be played not only between 1 and 2 but between 2 and 3 as well. A 6 man bassline creates less of a difference in tone between each bass because you got an extra guy on there so you have to balance out the tuning of the basses.
      In short, no. Bass 2 and 3 in my opinion had equally hard parts throughout that year's show.
      **Edit** Bass 2 doesn't have the highest pitch in the bassline, but it has the highest pitch out of the basses that can split singles on the upbeat and stuff like that

      In a perfect world, every hs would have 5 basses because thats the best number for a good amount of notes to be written for that section. The choices for Snare and Tenor lines is up to the tech and the BD but you're right 6 is one too many. I think Rhythm X marched 7 basses in 2014. Not exactly sure.

      Hello there is a reason that we march 6 Bass Drums as its our preference. Some schools choose to have 5 and we like to have 6

      +Ernie Mclaurin Preference is preference. Thanks for the reply, really gets me into perspective of other things. (Not being sarcastic at all, althought might have came off that way) But I said in a perfect world, and nobody is perfect and I understand that.
