Omg, we're first time fur grand parents and it is by accident since neighbor's dog broke the fence and let himself in uninvited 😅 so we end up with 8 mix great pyrenees and cane corso. I am so glad to come across your page because they just turn 4 weeks and we just left puppy kibbles and soaked in water. We thought that was just it. Some puppies ate, mostly just drink the liquid which we recently added the diluted puppy milk. So we are sooo glad and excited to try this recipe! Hi your videos have been so helpful. My question is what is the schedule for 4 week old puppies to wean over to solid food. How many times a day do you offer the gruel? How many times should mom be nursing? After they finish gruel do you give them back to mom and let them nurse right after? How long between meals at 4 weeks of age? Native Pet's Probiotic and Organic Pumpkin are amazing products to add into the gruel also Raw Goats Milk is best for the puppies and dogs & Cats. Answers and Bones and Co are the ones to get. You can also put a microwaved rice sock up inside the raised part of the feeding bowl that way their gruel will stay warm and not get cold on them.
Milk replacer in the can says not to put it in the microwave. Might be why some of your pups get sick. I like your recipe better tho. Thanks for sharing!!! Great looking pups to!!

So far this is the best video I have found. I have a litter of pug pups. And while some other breeds the gruel may work for them it may not work for pugs. I have watched a bunch of Frenchie and a few pug videos. But I feel not the best gruel mix. I feel rice and milk replacer is just not adequate. My pups are not doing well on this mix. They have Diarrhea and are a bit tired. The breeder I adopted my male from has stunning pups and she only used goat milk, chicken and rice. They seemed to do well and are very plump. So I know goat milk is a good alternative to the replacer. And our household doesn’t drink cow milk unless it’s raw. I still give our grown pugs and elderly boxer goat milk. So I think I’ll just cut over strictly to goat milk. I’m definitely going to try your mix. I think the Pedialyte and Kyro are great add ins and pups will really benefit from it. My question I have for you is: have you ever added a vitamin mix and what brand of puppy food are you using? I bought small breed puppy blue buffalo chicken and rice. I figured it would be a band adoptees might choose and is widely available. Also do you have any recommendations for loose stool during the weaning process? Thank you!
Pumpkin is a great addition that helps tremendously with loose stool!! We use Purina ProPlan puppy we have never tried blue Buffalo but we hear good things about it. Good luck on the transition for your pups! Let us know how it goes. ❤️🐾
I was watching this video again and I was wondering what formula milk replacer you where using for your little runt gal. I had a runt pup last litter and I used what seemed to be a good formula but she really struggled. And so I started her on the gruel mix with the rest of the puppies wich really helped her weight gain and growth. She’s now fully caught up at 5mths and beautiful as all the rest. This new litter is very chunky and absolutely stunning. But I do have a little one that needs a little extra calories. She’s not Technically a runt. Just a bit smaller and is always the pup pushed out. I’ve been supplement feeding her. But I was wondering what the best way to give extra calories is. I heard of people feeding baby food meat, egg whites, a calorie vitamin mix and so on. I’m wondering what you have used or if you’ve needed to.
Question: I feed RAW to all my EB's and I know you do also. My question is why would you use Kibble in their gruel vs adding some ground up meat (meal). Thanks for all your videos.
This is a great question! All of our puppies are being adopted out to new families. About 75% of dog owners still feed kibble. We are preparing these puppies for their new home knowing that there is a large chance they will not be fed RAW. If we were to start them on raw chances are they would not accept kibble well once they were adopted. Most everyone that follows us know we totally prefer RAW and we let all of our new puppy parents know that but we let them make their own decisions about what to feed. We encourage switching to RAW ASAP if that’s something they are interested in doing.

We start them on much around 4 weeks. Sometimes they need help getting started. Usually putting a spoon full up to their mouth with help them get started. Some puppies catch on slower than others.
@@texan2547 get as much help as you can. I became a zombie for over a month with my husband's help when he wasn't at work. Also definitely get a battery operated nose "sucker" in any baby section, so much better and easier than the bulb sucker
I feel like ive been feeding my 4 weeks enough. But its hard to measure how mich each pup needs. Their smaller pups bit pitbull mix so theyll grow big. Im wondering in your personal experience. As u wean them is the mom still feeding and if so do u feed them less? Just trying to gage. Thank you😊
Great idea! We deworm at 2,4,6 weeks. At 6 weeks we take them for shots and a worm check. If no worms then we don’t deworm anymore. We don’t give ours their shots we take them to the vet for that.
At four weeks do they need water at all? Or is the gruel their main source of hydration? Also, are you able to make any of this in advance to just heat up before feeding or do you make fresh each time? We have had ours with a whelper but they haven’t been doing a very good job so their coming home at four weeks and I’m so scared to hurt them 😭
We start giving them a little bit of water around 5 weeks old. 4 weeks is a little too young. It’s important to make it fresh due to the milk. You can save some if you make too much , for the next feeding ( save in fridge) but for the most part it really needs to be fresh every time. We wish you luck with your babies.

Wow, it’s a lot of work but certainly worth it as they look so healthy and beautiful, they are growing so much. When do you put them on a BARF diet? My ebd/oebd pups turned 5 months yesterday and I am feeding them the bulldog recipe for puppies from Royal Canin. We are going to start our old dogs who are not bulldogs on raw in the next week or so when the grinder comes in; they are both 12 years old, one in good health, the other not so much. I got inspired when I saw your video to look into this and have been researching and talking to my vet about it for my Adult dogs. Thanks in advance for answering.
We suggest putting them on the BARF diet right away. We don’t put our adoptable pups on raw because there is a great chance the new family will not be feeding them raw. But our suggestion is to start right away. I’m glad your vet is on board with BARF. Most vets are against it. Good luck with your fur babies. We hope they show lots of improvement with the new diet. We got our rottie when he was 12 weeks old and his breeder had him on Royal Canin. We transitioned him to the BARF diet right away. We live in Tx and get our raw food from Texas Tripe. Our vet was and remains very supportive to a raw diet which is wonderful!! Thor (our rottie - u can see him in my profile pic) tore his ACL when he was 9 mos old and we were going to do Plasma Rich Protein injections until he was a yr old bc he was still growing and our vet didn’t feel surgery would be the best option. We crate rested him for 8 weeks and continued the raw diet with joint supplements from Wholistic Pet Organics, and he nvr even needed a single PRP injection or surgery. His body healed itself with his diet and our vet was amazed. She tells this story to everyone who is interested in raw feeding - said she’d nvr seen anything like it. We later fostered and adopted our pittie and rhodesian ridgeback and we transitioned them to raw as well. The only time we have to take any of them to the vet used to be for vaccinations, but we had a titer test done on all of them and they no longer need their vaccinations either! Sad we don’t see our vet more often bc she’s so wonderful, but the money we spend on raw feeding saves us so much money on vet care in the long run. I’ll nvr ever feed kibble again to any dog we have!
@@HouseofWrinkles Ty, happy to share! I’m still watching ur video, and got to the part about the Gerber Rice cereal. A Congressional committee found that Gerber had exceeded the amt of heavy metals (arsenic, cadmium, etc) that the FDA allows, and Gerber failed to recall their products despite this. U may want to look more in depth into this bc as much care as u put into ur pups, I know u wouldn’t want to give them anything bad. Hope this helps! Love ur channel! ❤️
At 4 weeks you still let them nurse a couple times a day. Mostly so that mom doesn’t develop an infection in her breast. It’s not good to stop nursing abruptly or too early.
Can you start them at 3 weeks and just get them 3 times a day then suck from the mother the rest? will they pick it up to transition easier if they just spend a few minutes messing with it?
Weight them everyday. They should be gaining pretty steadily. If they are draining the pan completely dry pretty quickly I suggest making a little more the next time. Keep making a larger amount until you reach where they walk away with a little tiny bit left still in the pan.
so when do u take away the gerber and it becomes just kibble ? I did this method but I’m having trouble believing pups at 8 weeks are still going to be using milk. Please reply I need answers
At 6 weeks you take away the milk and just soak the kibble in water for an hour or so. Mush it up really well ( no chunks) and serve. You can still give pumpkin mixed in it.

There’s no wrong way to do it. Just every day make it thicker and thicker by adding more cereal. At 6 weeks stop the milk and cereal, just feed them the puppy food soaked in water and mushed up.

Some small grain rice in water in pressure cooker. Grated carrot broccoli in the mixture makes beautiful thickish Soft gruel. Then some cream because there's no lactose mixed through .mix a raw egg through for protein. After 6 weeks tiny pieces of chicken mixed through. Just logic common sense. No need for anything outlandish or expensive.
Cream? Cream is made from lactose. Depends what type of cream and whether it's lactose free or not... you also need the kibble as well. Basically trading out ingredients for his. We spent a little under $150 for all supplies. Including blankets and ingredients in this video
I’m so terribly sorry about your momma dog. I strongly suggest to keep trying the bottle. They will eventually catch on. We have several videos about newborn puppy care that I think will help you.
I have Jack Russells and just had 5 puppies about a month ago. They opened their eyes 4 days ago but still don't have teeth. Unfortunately 1 didn't make it so I have 4. I cleared a room in my house for a nursery. Mom's going nuts being cooped up and is full of milk. Im worried about the babies and their nutrition. We have used egg whites and mayonnaise mixed in with goats milk before. I think their are a few different recipes online that work great.

How do y'all actually get them started with trying the mush and learning to eat it??? With so many I could use all the advice I can get! TIA
We start them on much around 4 weeks. Sometimes they need help getting started. Usually putting a spoon full up to their mouth with help them get started. Some puppies catch on slower than others.
On my 1st litter now of 11! 😱😱😱 and it's been lots of sleepless nights!
@@texan2547 get as much help as you can. I became a zombie for over a month with my husband's help when he wasn't at work. Also definitely get a battery operated nose "sucker" in any baby section, so much better and easier than the bulb sucker

No but it’s just simply adding water to the puppy food you choose and letting it soak for a few minutes, mash and serve
I feel like ive been feeding my 4 weeks enough. But its hard to measure how mich each pup needs. Their smaller pups bit pitbull mix so theyll grow big. Im wondering in your personal experience. As u wean them is the mom still feeding and if so do u feed them less? Just trying to gage. Thank you😊

Great idea! We deworm at 2,4,6 weeks. At 6 weeks we take them for shots and a worm check. If no worms then we don’t deworm anymore. We don’t give ours their shots we take them to the vet for that.

At four weeks do they need water at all? Or is the gruel their main source of hydration? Also, are you able to make any of this in advance to just heat up before feeding or do you make fresh each time? We have had ours with a whelper but they haven’t been doing a very good job so their coming home at four weeks and I’m so scared to hurt them 😭
We start giving them a little bit of water around 5 weeks old. 4 weeks is a little too young. It’s important to make it fresh due to the milk. You can save some if you make too much , for the next feeding ( save in fridge) but for the most part it really needs to be fresh every time. We wish you luck with your babies.

I hope that makes sense. Only refrigerate once. Then start a fresh batch as it is only good for a few hours. Hope this helps

Wow, it’s a lot of work but certainly worth it as they look so healthy and beautiful, they are growing so much. When do you put them on a BARF diet? My ebd/oebd pups turned 5 months yesterday and I am feeding them the bulldog recipe for puppies from Royal Canin. We are going to start our old dogs who are not bulldogs on raw in the next week or so when the grinder comes in; they are both 12 years old, one in good health, the other not so much. I got inspired when I saw your video to look into this and have been researching and talking to my vet about it for my Adult dogs. Thanks in advance for answering.
We suggest putting them on the BARF diet right away. We don’t put our adoptable pups on raw because there is a great chance the new family will not be feeding them raw. But our suggestion is to start right away.

We got our rottie when he was 12 weeks old and his breeder had him on Royal Canin. We transitioned him to the BARF diet right away. We live in Tx and get our raw food from Texas Tripe. Our vet was and remains very supportive to a raw diet which is wonderful!! Thor (our rottie - u can see him in my profile pic) tore his ACL when he was 9 mos old and we were going to do Plasma Rich Protein injections until he was a yr old bc he was still growing and our vet didn’t feel surgery would be the best option. We crate rested him for 8 weeks and continued the raw diet with joint supplements from Wholistic Pet Organics, and he nvr even needed a single PRP injection or surgery. His body healed itself with his diet and our vet was amazed. She tells this story to everyone who is interested in raw feeding - said she’d nvr seen anything like it. We later fostered and adopted our pittie and rhodesian ridgeback and we transitioned them to raw as well. The only time we have to take any of them to the vet used to be for vaccinations, but we had a titer test done on all of them and they no longer need their vaccinations either! Sad we don’t see our vet more often bc she’s so wonderful, but the money we spend on raw feeding saves us so much money on vet care in the long run. I’ll nvr ever feed kibble again to any dog we have!

@@HouseofWrinkles Ty, happy to share! I’m still watching ur video, and got to the part about the Gerber Rice cereal. A Congressional committee found that Gerber had exceeded the amt of heavy metals (arsenic, cadmium, etc) that the FDA allows, and Gerber failed to recall their products despite this. U may want to look more in depth into this bc as much care as u put into ur pups, I know u wouldn’t want to give them anything bad. Hope this helps! Love ur channel! ❤️

At 4 weeks you still let them nurse a couple times a day. Mostly so that mom doesn’t develop an infection in her breast. It’s not good to stop nursing abruptly or too early.

Weight them everyday. They should be gaining pretty steadily. If they are draining the pan completely dry pretty quickly I suggest making a little more the next time. Keep making a larger amount until you reach where they walk away with a little tiny bit left still in the pan.
so when do u take away the gerber and it becomes just kibble ? I did this method but I’m having trouble believing pups at 8 weeks are still going to be using milk. Please reply I need answers
At 6 weeks you take away the milk and just soak the kibble in water for an hour or so. Mush it up really well ( no chunks) and serve. You can still give pumpkin mixed in it.

Goats milk you buy in the grocery store. It’s in the milk section. Any brand is fine

Yes around 4 or 5 weeks we slowly introduce water with a very shallow amount at first.

There’s no wrong way to do it. Just every day make it thicker and thicker by adding more cereal. At 6 weeks stop the milk and cereal, just feed them the puppy food soaked in water and mushed up.

Some small grain rice in water in pressure cooker. Grated carrot broccoli in the mixture makes beautiful thickish Soft gruel. Then some cream because there's no lactose mixed through .mix a raw egg through for protein. After 6 weeks tiny pieces of chicken mixed through. Just logic common sense. No need for anything outlandish or expensive.
Cream? Cream is made from lactose. Depends what type of cream and whether it's lactose free or not... you also need the kibble as well. Basically trading out ingredients for his. We spent a little under $150 for all supplies. Including blankets and ingredients in this video

I have Jack Russells and just had 5 puppies about a month ago. They opened their eyes 4 days ago but still don't have teeth. Unfortunately 1 didn't make it so I have 4. I cleared a room in my house for a nursery. Mom's going nuts being cooped up and is full of milk. Im worried about the babies and their nutrition. I try every day to get them to start eating mush or gruel but not having much luck.
