I spent six months in the Arabian Gulf, and lemme tell you, that place is frickin' haunted. The one that got me were the "Dead Zones". We were steaming along, and suddenly we lost **ALL** comms. HF, VHF, UHF, SATHICOM, TADIXS, CUDIXS, OTCIXS, Link-11, all four channels of the fleet broadcast, and GPS. Combat and the bridge were calling radio, asking what happened, and we had no fricking clue. RM1 remembered something and dug into one of the Naval Telecommunications Publications and found the entry on dead zones. He asked the bridge what our last known position was, and he checked against the table, and sure enough, we were in the dead zone. GPS and fleet broadcast were no surprise? Those are easy to disrupt. But UHF line-of-sight should be impossible to disrupt without pumping out a metric butt-ton of power, and you would hear that kind of energy going out on the airwaves. Instead there was _nothing._ Just dead air.

Very interesting. Though my understanding of radio waves is pretty limited, it sounds like something was drawing the energy into itself, apparently something under the water. In radio, we have transmitters and receivers, obviously the transmitters can vary in strength and power, but our receivers are just kind of 'listening' with some rudimentary magnification of the income signal. I think if you were to try to communicate over great distances, like between distant planets, you would need the technology to 'draw in' the radio signals on the receiver, as well as crank up the power or the transmitter.
Perhaps what you encountered was a high powered receiver of some kind, and it was inadvertently drawing in your signals while listening for it's own. Kind of the way a telescope not only magnifies light, but also (by using a large collector) draws more light in. I guess it could have been much worse, imagine being there if it decided to transmit!

@@bigbossimmotal That's not the way electromagnetic energy works. You can't "suck up all the energy" unless it were a black hole. And in that case...well...I think we would have known if it were. _From the Afterlife_ after St. Peter tells us what happened. But yes, if a powerful transmitter were to fire up and send a signal in the HF or microwave bands, you would have a _very_ bad day.

@@IonOtter I wasn't talking about electromagnetism at all, I was referring to some (unknown to us) way of drawing in radio waves. So naturally we would not know how it works.
If you know what happened, why the secrecy? Why post a book title that may have the answer? Can't you just tell us?

@@bigbossimmotal Radio waves *are* electromagnetic energy. Based on our current knowledge, nothing but a black hole could "suck in" electromagnetic energy. What *can* happen, is you-or someone else-can pump all kinds of electromagnetic garbage into the spectrum that would make the data on the carrier wave unintelligible. But as I said, doing that would be visible on a spectrum analyzer. You'd see peaks of energy at the frequency. But we didn't see that. We didn't see anything other than our own signal going out, but nothing coming back.
If you were to use sufficient power, you could deflect radio waves, sort of bending them away from a particular area? Or you could compress and heat up the upper atmosphere to make it reflective, like a mirror. That was the stated purpose of HAARP. But again, using that much power would show up on instruments all over the planet.
As for what happened, I have no idea. I literally don't know. And the NTP publication didn't have any explanation either, it just gave the location of the anomaly.

Nice balance with the audio and visuals. I like the touch of coloring the graphics green or white to match the stories. You have a really enjoyable voice, too. I could listen to a whole ahdiobooks series of weird phenomena if you narrated it :)

Don't all funnels have 2 rims?

I actually had a fair bit of difficulty fully understanding the UFO description (which I've only included bits of in the video) and did my best to draw it how I understood it. I *assumed* he meant that the widest rim had a sort of thickness to it, as if there was a second funnel within? Who knows!!!
