  • Les Troyens is a French grand opera in five acts by Hector Berlioz. The libretto was written by Berlioz himself from Virgil's epic poem the Aeneid; the score was composed between 1856 and 1858.

    I like this opera for several reasons:
    1-An interest for romantic music;
    2-an interest for good music;
    3-because i am a student in classics,and this opera is based on Vergil's Aeneid.
    A beautiful piece.

    Seeing or hearing this in the opera itself, as the background music with a chorus of Trojans singing triumphantly as they haul the wooden horse into the city, while in the onstage action, Cassandra, unheeded, sings out her increasingly agitated forebodings is a truly spine-tingling experience.

    the subject of the exiled prince, who sets out to find a new home for his people, whose kingdom was once great, suited berlioz perfectly. his artistic vision of greatness was mostly incomprehensible to contemporary listeners.

    Това е епична опера с пет действия, базирана на "Енеида" на Вергилий. Въпреки че тя е доста дълга, това е великолепно произведение, което демонстрира големия мащаб на композицията на Берлиоз.

      there‘s an unsteadiness in the magnetic reel-to-reel, or am I the only one who can hear it? this is like the out-of-tune piano that killed Chopin
      Or like reading George Sand in translation ... Sand in English is like sand in lettuce, a bother

    Wasn't the tempo accelerated? :s

    • @nomorebushz
      @nomorebushz 4 роки тому +1

      If it was slower, it would be pure drudgery. First rehearsals in a community orchestra that can't play up to tempo is shear torture. It needs this high energy prideful tempo. Then is when the glorious pride and piety comes through. There is no majesty at a slower tempo.

    This is actually well directed and played, but it's not Berlioz original work at all. Someone copied/pasted passages of the opera where the Trojan march is played, and glued them together with some additional developments and without the vocal parts. Berlioz would have hated it; he couldn't stand it when people re-arranged other composers' original work.

    • @henrirauscher9960
      @henrirauscher9960 7 років тому

      Marc Peycker Sorry y ou are totally wrong:Berlioz did that himself! ans tout do that(at this level and quality) from an original pièce of Berlioz only Berlioz could do!

    • @marcpeycker
      @marcpeycker 7 років тому

      Henri Rauscher, I might indeed be wrong, who knows? This is a different arrangement from the versions of Les Troyens I'm familiar with, though. I suppose Berlioz could have re-arranged his original work when he altered the partition to have a much shorter version played at a much smaller scene than what he had originally envisoned. So, this version could be part of that.

    • @henrirauscher9960
      @henrirauscher9960 7 років тому +2

      Marc Peycker sorry again : Thére was a kind of re-arrangement at the time he reduced thé opéra (2nd part to be finally played in Paris after Years) but this concerns a new ouverture.thé troyan march wasn't concerned:hé re- arranged this one piece specially for it to be played at the concert for the result that one pièce at last could be heard from part one.Poor desperate And suffering Berlioz.it's a pleasure to communicate with Berlioz lovers whereever they are.
      i'm in France and Berlioz is my God for 41 Yeats...

      @marcpeycker 7 років тому +1

      Oh my God, you're quite the Berlioz scholar! Thanks for the info, I thought I know all the overtures he had composed, but that one had eluded me, hehe!

    • @henrirauscher9960
      @henrirauscher9960 7 років тому +1

      Marc Peycker little precision :the new ouverture appears as "prélude"(The Trojans in Carthage) so that it does'nt generally appear in any ouvertures anthology. (and so don't "marches" either: hungarian or troyan)

  • @aurahalo9
    @aurahalo9 10 років тому +2

    Actually Shah, this is Beecham RPO. If you wish to go to a Mariachi concert, do so. however, the orchestra, along with the horns, trumpets and trombones, play with heart. I TOTALLY disagree about your suggestion with a faster tempo. This IS NOT the Horse-race of the Trojans. Yours is typical of someone who likes music,but isnt much of an expert where it comes to truly hearing into it.

    Prostě za mě tomu k věčnosti něco málo bude vždycky chybět, což si myslím, věděl i sám a trápilo ho to... Kvalitní sklatba, ale s Orfem, Mozartem, Beethovenem nebo třeba Dvořákem se to nedá srovnat...
