- Alfred Deller sings this traditional English song magnificently. Like the song's protagonist I am also from the north country, so I thought I would add some images in celebration of our wonderful countryside.
I fell in love with this music thanks to Alfred Deller more than 50 years ago watching a documentary on French TV. As time goes by, I love this music even more. I have listened to this while sitting on a stone in the yorkshire moor on a the terrace of a renaissance mannor in Derbyshire.
Whenever I feel stressed, I listen to this and it takes me to a world which is unknown to me, but there is where I find the eternal peace.. It feels so light..!! God I love this classic piece of divine work..
Oh magnificent. Love the beautiful video photos too !
Such beautiful scenery! I'd love to live there! Also beautiful vocals too!
Alfred Deller was a diligent genius who had a humble appreciation of his gift.
No matter the area of human expression, there are precious few in this class.
Fritz Wunderlich, and Rembrandt van Rijn come to mind.
My parents had the LP too! Fantastic! Such a voice! Love it!
Just divine!
Love this old song. Can someone please post the lyrics to make it easier to sing along?
Such a beautiful voice and the song also,
Alfred Deller ist der "Vater aller Countertenöre". Er hat schon seit 1950 im Falsett gesungen - Lange bevor die Schwämme der Contertenöre in den 1980ern aufkam.
I usually run a mile from classical treatments of folksongs, shorn of their rough edges, dissonances and dangerous harmonies; where the smell of lavender takes over from the pungent aromas of soil, sawdust and beer. But for once I'm completely charmed by this version of the song.
