Hi Lou! Happy New Year to you and Debbie!! I just love watching your persimmon trees grow throughout the growing season and seeing the beautiful bounty at season's end...thanks for sharing!
Belated Happy New Year! 😀 Excited to see your fig tree care vids! Liked and subscribed to you! Trying to make more dog training vids here and goal is to have a calm morning with reactive dog ❤
Thank you. You must be in Pennsylvania. Or maybe Jersey? I am in zone 5. Illinois. We get much colder than your zone. I have 1 fig tree in a pot which I put in my barn near a window over winter (put ice in the pot periodically to simulate melting winter conditions. It most of the time stays above brutal cold. Its a turkey fig. It grew one beautiful fig this year. I didnt think it was all that great but it looked very nice. I would like to get another variety - maybe you can suggest something? I dont think any can ever go in the ground here - even Chicago fig. We can go way below zero. It looks like you have a nice life. Im happy for you both. I make pasta fazoole (sp) also. Yours looks different. Thanks for the video.
MMMM pasta fagioli, makes me miss my great gmom. She was typical old italian lady that was always cooking sleeping cleaning or yelling haha, and if you showed up at her house she will feed you even if you said your full.
I was going to use a 55 gallon barrel with screw on lid and a cattle trough. I'm also going to use cement wire cages with 10 mm plastic and make mini greenhouses in zone 7b. They never die in the greenhouse.
Just discovered your channel Thanks very much very informative. I live in NJ zone 6A and just planted 4 Persimmon trees I learned a lot from your experience. What Zone are you in if I may ask. Kind regards
Hi! I've never had a serious problem with birds or insects eating my persimmons in my area. That's another wonderful advantage of growing organic persimmons in my climate! I could really never put into words just how much I value my assortment of magnificent persimmon varieties! Regards from, Lou Monti
I’m in NW Florida and we had a record breaking freeze for 5 days. We got down to 17 degrees with a windchill of 7! We stayed in frozen temps for 21/2 days , I covered my young figs with a heavy layer of mulch and quilts . I’m still not sure if they made it. I lost all my citrus including a grapefruit that was planted in 82.
Hi, there! Well, I think that it was a very good idea to cover your fig trees during that cold snap! I think that you stand a very good chance that taking those precautions will end up being well worth your effort. So sorry about you losing your Grapefruit tree. Hopefully, does it have a chance to recover? Best wishes! Lou Monti
@@loumonti10 thank you for replying. I do see some green left on my grapefruit tree. though it is completely denuded of its leaves. I’ll know about all the trees by the middle of Feb. thanks for your videos.
Yeah we went down to around 5 in my area but we got all the first year trees(Celeste,Brown Turkey,Kadota,Beers, UnkBerrType) covered with at least 1 but most got 2 tarps/quilts/whatever we had but I am pretty worried to see what its looking like come spring. Godbless🙏
Be careful with large predatory birds and small dogs. They will pick them up and carry them away. My mom had a little minature dog and they took her one day while in the backyard.
Love to hear from you Lou!! Any and all news and words of wisdom!! Happy New Years!!
I always love seeing your fig and persimmons tree vids! ❤

Happy new year mr Lou,thanks for the tip, we can only learn! I’m rooting 10 dessert king and it’s all because of you mentoring us , thanks 🙏🏽
I have two hawks that visit my yard almost every day. They sit on my fence and I can get about ten feet from them they are absolutely stunning.
Agreed with the mulch. These trees like to dry between waterings.

Always such great wisdom on growing food😊 Do you have any suggestions on buying a large amount of burlap to be Abe to do many fig trees?
Just Home Depot! Lol! Take care and 4ba is for watching! Lou Monti
How do the birds or critters not steal the persimmons off the tree?

Hi Question- so what do I use to prevent weeds in my container fig instead of mulch? Thanks
Haha! Pull them, of course! It's so easy, never a problem. Thanks for watching! Lou Monti

How do you protect your desert king?
Hi! I don't protect my Desert King in 7-B. It is one of the hardiest fig trees that I have ever grown. Thanks for watching! Lou monti

Thank you!!! Appreciated advise! Lou Monti
