I think one of the coolest features on the ND3P is when you're sending MIDI back the other way to the ND3P. Because each pad exists on it's own channel you can send pitch information to each individual pad and get some crazy polyphony happening. Vastly increases the modules potential beyond just being a drum pad
I saw a cool post on the Elektron Forum yesterday and someone had removed the pads and put it into a nice custom wood case. I would absolutely grab one of those if they started selling them. It was tiny too! Looked like a big calculator 😂
Woah I didn’t realize how wide that Discovery Pro synth patch was. Gonna have to explore that and figure out if it was effects that spread it or if there is some panning modulation 🤔 more to…. Discover hehehehe
Thanks! When I figured this out my mind started to spin a bit with all of the possibilities. Really cool to map stuff life ND pad velocity to serum’s pitch or something.
Awesome video! If you think about it it's crazy what kind of hybrid patches you can create by using the internal engine, drum racks and external synths at the same time. It might get quite funky as well with random generative tools for melodies on a single pad. Definitely made me excited about trying out some stuff :)
I agree! I was thinking about some of my favorite SERUM presets that I'd love to control with the ND3P. Just scratched the surface with this video here, but I feel like I just got a firmware update or something 🤣
Do this in Bitwig with CV Hardware instruments with no latency when audio coming back into the Bitwig and use the modulators to have insane fun. Great Video.
Thanks! Your comment prompted me to actually look up Bitwig and learn the major differences from Ableton. Interesting they are both Berlin based DAWs with some ex Ableton folks. The Poly Grid, FX Grid and Note Grid stuff looks really cool.
Wow, now you have 6 separate audio channels which gives you enormous sound design / mixing freedom. I wonder if you can still use native synthesizers of Nord Drum with this setup? Maybe it‘s possible to layer Nord Drum‘s synthesizers with the ones that get triggered in your DAW by the respective pads?
Exactly! Because each drum rack channel can be routed to its own track for separate processing. Yes, you can absolutely layer the Nord Drum sounds with the other synths, however, you are limited to the left and right outputs on the ND for audio. You could record in midi and then solo all but one pad and record the audio to get separate tracks. Tons to explore here. I think the beauty is being able to create electronic music without being a good key player or sequencer programmer.
Good question, I think I can use Ableton's Note Length or Midi Envelope Midi Effect to modify anything coming in from the Nord Drum. Not 100% sure if the ND's gate control can control anything, however, I just used it to trig the other devices.
🤣 I'm sorry! I'm 2 months into my no new gear for a year and I'm currently on YT looking at synths I can't buy. Alesis Sample Pad Pro8 might be a cheaper move!

1:50 I’m a sucker for that stereo separation 😅

Sounds fantastic! It really opens up a lot of possibilities sonically when used as a MIDI controller.

Perfect! exactly what I wanted to do but never quite got it to work. Many thanks!
Awesome! I was grateful to figure this out too. Hope it works for you!

👌
Looks like you've built yourself a time machine (💭Ima jam for 20 minutes... 6 hours go by...).
Is there a midi gate control?

You’re not helping with my GAS… not even a drummer, but I sense I can create unique rhythms using 3P as a MIDI controller
