In this video I build a basic hand saw holder or till for storing all types of hand saws. The design is very simple yet elegant and functional. It has a very cool clamping function and holds any type of saw or flat object simply and securely with a roller and wedge mechanism. This design maximizes the number of saws that can be stored on a given surface area of wall by storing them facing out and away from the wall. This orientation also places the handle at the perfect angle for grab and go use.
A long time ago I started my quest to find the best hand saw holder out there. I've scoured Pinterest, UA-cam, and other's woodshops to find the perfect design for my own shop. I think I found it and decided to share it with all of you! This saw holder was inspired by the video on "Alan's Woodworking". • A clever DIY Saw Rack....
I thought the design was very intriguing and I couldn't quite tell how he made all of the components from his video. After I figured out the design I decided to share it with all of you with my own flavor. This hand saw holder is a continuation of my rolling tool wall project and can store any type of hand saw, or flat object up to 1/8" thick by simply clamping it in place with a roller. The best part about the design is the simplicity and it's made from Scrap. The only new material I purchased specifically for the project was a 3/4" dowel for $3 U.S!

Really nice idea. I built one for my smaller saws (dovetail, flush cut, razor saw, etc) that holds 8 saws. I also wanted to leave the little plastic teeth protectors on the saw when I hang the saws up in the holder. The problem I had was that the 3/4" wood dowels would not hold the saw robustly in the rack and I was concerned they might fall out. My solution was to reduce the dowel size to 1/2" diameter and then slip fit a 7/16" ID x 3/4" OD grommet (mine actually came from a harbor freight $4 set of grommets. This works flawlessly and hold the saws very well due to the increased friction. They can also pivot slightly to allow the plastic teeth protectors to remain on the blade. Hope this helps anyone else who wants increased friction hold.

Nice job with explanation of process. Quick question, did you put a top cover over the wedges to make sure the dowels don't come out?
I didn't, but it would be a great/simple upgrade. I have had a few get knocked out during transit when moving

Do you have a video on how you made the table? Just getting into woodworking myself, and looking to maximize the space I have. Love these wedges!
Richard, I don't have any videos on the base cart, but the construction consists of 2x sheets of 3/4" plywood and 2x4"s. If you look at the "worbench build" playlist you can see some of my videos adding different mounts for tools. I recommend starting with the cart/ bench and adding to it over time. I would be happy to answer any questions you have along the way. Don't hesitate to email!

Since we last talked, I've published my original sketchup on my Etsy page for $1. It's not the best representation of a actual dimensions, but it shows you the concept in a way that would allow you to build it. I've also got plans in the works for the main cart.

The dowels work fine, I haven't had anything fall. Rubber balls can be swapped too if for some reason there's an issue. Thanks for watching, Jeff!

I just made one after watching last night and my saws just slip right through. Any help.
What angle did you use for your wedges? Pulling down slightly when seating the saws helps but slightly. The steeper the angle, the higher the clamp force.
The only thing I can figure is that you don't have enough friction in your system. Maybe roughing up the wedges and rollers might help. Please let me know if that helps.

Unnecessarily long and - 3.57 minutes of ads in the first break. Makers should figure this in. I don’t give the time to videos with no hook in the first few seconds.
