The word last is in the subtitle, but that’s not an implication of the last movie. No one thought “The Last Jedi” meant the last Star Wars movie. Why is this any different?
I personally enjoyed this film. As a fan of the Insidious trilogy, I thought this brought things full circle in a pretty decent way and gave some more nice backstory. And despite some unneeded jump scares and it being slow at times, I enjoyed the more personal story they went with. Add in the creepy atmosphere from the previous films, a well designed demon, and another good performance from Elise, and I thought it was worth my time and money. Now hopefully we can move forward and see what actually happened after the second film!
Matt Granda this film lacks a lot of potential they could go for.. there's a moment when elise goes upstair & left behind that sidekick which I thought will get a hardtime facing the demon (did not happened). The sound from the thing that he use (as jeremy stated) I thought will caught something (like the ghost adventure team) didn't happened. You missed all the potential that is there. This film just failed to spooked the audience. Nothing scary & makes you at the edge of your seat. Like all insidious before.
Jace Carsonne i think they try to go that route in this movie. Cause there's a moment earlier in the film the lipstick face do appear... but sadly it just that. It just like they just go "nah.. that script is bullshit, we gotta make a new demon cooler than that"

Good build up. BAD ENDING. I feel they could of made the movie better and longer if they mentioned some background on the demon. New mexico is the setting. They could of said the house was build on a ancient native american/ old mexican cemitary. They could of given the ghost a dark.story

Corey Mack Horror can be both thriller and paranormal though. So both movies does belong in those section. IT was a mix of both cus Pennywise is a demon which is more paranormal but when he attacks and eats its more thriller

That Stuckmann has better taste. The first half is dominated by Lin Shayes excellent performance and effectively dramatic moments. The latter is more of where the horror movie is at, and it's good too, but the first half is very mature for Insidious. That's refreshing.

Bloodspilla2008 eat my ass, chapter 4 is a prequel but it’s still good at least it went more in depth with Elise’s backstory unlike chapter 3 where it was just some random girl. Also all I’m gonna say is that Chapter 4 gives a hint that maybe the next one will definitely end the original trilogy and continue after the end of number 2
I love your reviews man. But fast forwarding to the movie. This may have not been the best one but it served its purpose. One thing I can definitely say about all insidious movies. They make you think about everything that’s going on . It’s not a typical horror movie, with typical pointless shit jumping out to scare you. The back stories to every person that’s experiencing a dark wicked journey in these movies are amazing. I must say. Am I the only one that actually felt bad for Alice dad when the key monster gave the whip to Alice to beat him. Then she finally realized the whole time he was being controlled the monster (throbs off fear ).He really loved her and wanted to keep her safe. I guess that key monster attached his self to him through his drinking & getting drunk I’m assuming. But this was a great movie. I love Alice she’s always saving the day 🤗
Agreed completely, 3 was disappointing when I first saw it. I do like it now more than when initially watched it, but 4 made got me back into franchise and it solidified its self for me as be of the best horror franchises.

Saw this Tuesday, I was impressed. I liked this one better than chapter 2 and about the same as chapter 3. Less annoying than 3’s character that say”Like my mom listened to vintage records, like....” Insidious always has some cheesy moments / acting but was a really good time. A friend showed me these movies, this will be the first one I will own.
I believe this is the correct and logical order that makes since: A.) Did she take cases as a kid? NO; it was after she ran away; shown in part 4. B.) Did she take Quinn's case when she was an adult? Yes; shown in part 3. C.) Was Dalton her last case alive? Yes - shown in part 1 D.) Did she help fight for souls in the after life? Yes; shown in part 2. *Therefore the timeline is: Part 4, Part 3, Part 1, then Part 2.* I'm excited about the thrill of the movie. The writers are brilliant; psychologically. In the tunnel, to create in the audience, the belief that the ghost was behind the suitcase was done beautifully. The ghost breathing seemed to be further down the tunnel; she flashed her light down the tunnel, to enforce in the audiences mind that the ghost is definitely behind the pile of suitcases, then he pops out of the suit case! Brilliant psychological thriller. The girl in the bathroom turned out to be real!!! cold/twisted/plot and that was genius. The police station and interrogation rooms are naturally believe to be a place of safety, to the human mind, and at the part of the movie, it's common to let our guards down and sip some soda; so for the ghost to pop up in the interrogation room behind the detective was very clever. Oscar? hell yes.
I’ve just seen the latest Insidious. I’m a huge fan of the Insidious franchise and think it’s the best mainstream horror movie project of recent years, however I was a little let down by the ‘The Last Key’. Some thoughts. Beware of spoilers. The movie was good and had some standout moments, however it felt like a drop from the previous two movies. I think the first movie was good, second was better, third was fantastic then this kinda slipped. The film had a really strong start (although I missed the iconic violin title opening) and the strength throughout the entire movie was Lin Shaye’s portrayal of Elise. But the film couldn’t decide whether it wanted to be another standard haunting, an Elise backstory or a bridge to tie all the movies together; what we ended up getting was a bit of a mix of different ideas with lots of potential but none of them fully executing. The key demon was really cool and looked amazing, however there wasn’t any explanation as to what it was, where it came from and why it opens all the red doors. The link to the other movies and the concept that the key demon/Elise caused the Lambert family haunting was clever, but they really brushed over this and I actually think the entire movie could have been around the demon opening the red doors and causing all the hauntings from the franchise. I think they could have focussed a little less on comedy and more on horror, in some scenes a lot of tension was built and then vanished due to a cheap one liner. I like the comedy in these movies although in this film it worked against the genuinely scary atmosphere which was created by the opening sequence. Overall I think it’s still better than your everyday horror movie but it wasn’t quite on par with the other Insidious movies. Elise was really the standout of the film. Hopefully we get another movie on par with the third chapter!
It has happened with every single horror franchise in the history of cinema. Friday the 13th, Nightmare, Texas Chainsaw, Halloween, Chucky, Hellraiser, Scream, etc, etc. You shouldn't really be surprised nor bothered by it.
Well, you said over and over again this movie is unnecesary after the 'Insidious' trilogy, but to be honest, the third one was the 'GoW: Ascension' of 'Insidious'. This one at least, complete the circle between the first two movies. The third one is just an isolated case. 'The Last Key' too, with that only difference. So.. your kinda wrong.

Knew you'd rake this thru the coals so I held off watching til I saw it, myself. I loved it as a standalone movie and thought the family dynamic was powerful. Sobbed for several scenes and by the end I just wanted to hug my mommy. Keyface crawling towards her was super creepy but otherwise I agree the rest of the scares were jump scares. A few cheesy lines here and there but I still loved it so much I'm gonna see it again next week. I got a bit lost in the previous chapters so if someone could do me the favor of telling me if the end set up for a new chapter or if it closed the loop, that would save me from having to watch them all again. The mom was my favorite character. Did anyone else see Sandra Bullock in her?
Artic Vixen the chapters of the series go in the order of 3,4,1,2. Chapter 2 if you remember left of with a major cliffhanger which insinuated that the monster was gonna be the red face demon. The red face demon was shown at the end of chapter 4 because it was setting up the events of chapter 1. So technically that’s over with but maybe it could also be a hint that chapter 5 might finally continue off where number 2 left off meaning that red face demon is a serious issue that needs to be taken care of. Hopefully that makes sense lol

Honestly, if you had told me that _The Last Key_ was intended to be a pilot for a spin-off _Insidious_ TV show, and that it was instead just released a movie, I'd 100% believe you. It did some really cool filling out of the backstory, and introduced some interesting new characters with Elise's extended family... but it just felt kinda inconsequential. But if it was a TV pilot that was meant to introduce her nieces as the new leads, it'd actually be a nice way to start off.
Saw it last night. Wasn't bad but wasn't at all scary. Just a few jumpscares. Creepy at best. Not what I was expecting tho. Hate it when you go in thinking your gon be scared shitless and you leave without any of that enjoyment 😭

I've only seen the first Insidious film and I loved it. The whole concept of Astral Projection kinda grounded the horror element to some science reality which worked. Haven't seen the other installments yet, but might be worth looking into.

I am very surprised that the film makers did not branch off with the red and black faced creature from the first film. That was a freaky looking thing and could start a series of movies in the vein of Krueger, Pinhead etc..etc...
in insidious 2 at the end Elise's ghost goes a house and sees something I want to know when are they going to complete that story I have been waiting 4 years to find out then boom insidious 3 then now boom insidious 4 which has nothing to do with the end of part 2 do you know anything about this
Jasurian Moodley chapter 4 ending kind of hints at the red face demon from the first one and is also the demon she hears at the end of the chapter 2 so maybe that’s a hint that chapter 5 will definitely continue where chapter 2 left off
Where's my Darth Maul at? He was my favorite monster in this franchise and the REFUSE to bring him back. They teased him HARD at the end of 2 and I would like to see ghost granny have to fight or struggle against him in the sequel, but we got an entirely different movie instead. I am aggravated to say the least.

You can hate on jumpscares all you want but if jumpscares didn't exist you would never be scared because it's the anticipation of a jumpscare that's making you feel on edge.
I saw this movie last night and I'm in love with the Insidious franchise however this movie wasn't scary at all there were a few pop out scares but there wasn't anything haunting about this movie. There was one scene in the trailer I was looking forward to and it never happened in the movie so I'm not sure if they cut it out last minute but it pissed me off that they would put it in the trailer but not show it in the movie this movie is not worth seeing in theaters and that's coming from a big Insidious fan I was very disappointed... more of a background story of the main protagonist which is cool but still have some scary elements
Definitely should review the Creep movies, both are on Netflix and both are surprisingly good recent horror movies. The 1st came out a few years ago but the 2nd just came out and was as good if not better than 1. Found footage but done right. I hope you review them!
I’m definitely an Insidious super fan. Loved them, thought the first was the exactly what the horror genre needed. That being said, I was so so disappointed with this movie. Had such high hopes and was crushed. I should have seen this coming based solely on the ad campaign. Every single scary or thrilling moment was seen before I saw the movie. Those are my thoughts.
Stuckmann said the exact opposite thing about this movie, that the first 3rd to half of the movie was really good and hooked him and the last half kind of fell flat and you said the first half dragged and last half brought it together. Maybe that means there's good parts in both and I'll like both halves or it could go the other way and I hate both, hope it's the former because I like this series.
I don't really consider Insidious a trilogy though, more like a duology. The first two are related, but "Chapter 3" is a prequel and completely unrelated to the other movies, just like this one.
I gotta say, the marketing for this movie suuuuuucked. Like, they were REALLY banking on this whole "key fingers" thing to be scary, but it wasn't scary the first time they showed it in the trailer, so it wasn't scary the other 97,000 times they plastered it all over the marketing material

Less annoying than 3’s character that say”Like my mom listened to vintage records, like....” Insidious always has some cheesy moments / acting but was a really good time. A friend showed me these movies, this will be the first one I will own.

A.) Did she take cases as a kid? NO; it was after she ran away; shown in part 4.
B.) Did she take Quinn's case when she was an adult? Yes; shown in part 3.
C.) Was Dalton her last case alive? Yes - shown in part 1
D.) Did she help fight for souls in the after life? Yes; shown in part 2.
*Therefore the timeline is: Part 4, Part 3, Part 1, then Part 2.*
I'm excited about the thrill of the movie. The writers are brilliant; psychologically. In the tunnel, to create in the audience, the belief that the ghost was behind the suitcase was done beautifully. The ghost breathing seemed to be further down the tunnel; she flashed her light down the tunnel, to enforce in the audiences mind that the ghost is definitely behind the pile of suitcases, then he pops out of the suit case! Brilliant psychological thriller. The girl in the bathroom turned out to be real!!! cold/twisted/plot and that was genius. The police station and interrogation rooms are naturally believe to be a place of safety, to the human mind, and at the part of the movie, it's common to let our guards down and sip some soda; so for the ghost to pop up in the interrogation room behind the detective was very clever. Oscar? hell yes.
I’ve just seen the latest Insidious. I’m a huge fan of the Insidious franchise and think it’s the best mainstream horror movie project of recent years, however I was a little let down by the ‘The Last Key’.
Some thoughts.
Beware of spoilers.
The movie was good and had some standout moments, however it felt like a drop from the previous two movies. I think the first movie was good, second was better, third was fantastic then this kinda slipped.
The film had a really strong start (although I missed the iconic violin title opening) and the strength throughout the entire movie was Lin Shaye’s portrayal of Elise. But the film couldn’t decide whether it wanted to be another standard haunting, an Elise backstory or a bridge to tie all the movies together; what we ended up getting was a bit of a mix of different ideas with lots of potential but none of them fully executing. The key demon was really cool and looked amazing, however there wasn’t any explanation as to what it was, where it came from and why it opens all the red doors. The link to the other movies and the concept that the key demon/Elise caused the Lambert family haunting was clever, but they really brushed over this and I actually think the entire movie could have been around the demon opening the red doors and causing all the hauntings from the franchise.
I think they could have focussed a little less on comedy and more on horror, in some scenes a lot of tension was built and then vanished due to a cheap one liner. I like the comedy in these movies although in this film it worked against the genuinely scary atmosphere which was created by the opening sequence.
Overall I think it’s still better than your everyday horror movie but it wasn’t quite on par with the other Insidious movies. Elise was really the standout of the film.
Hopefully we get another movie on par with the third chapter!

It has happened with every single horror franchise in the history of cinema. Friday the 13th, Nightmare, Texas Chainsaw, Halloween, Chucky, Hellraiser, Scream, etc, etc. You shouldn't really be surprised nor bothered by it.

Well, you said over and over again this movie is unnecesary after the 'Insidious' trilogy, but to be honest, the third one was the 'GoW: Ascension' of 'Insidious'.
This one at least, complete the circle between the first two movies. The third one is just an isolated case. 'The Last Key' too, with that only difference. So.. your kinda wrong.

Knew you'd rake this thru the coals so I held off watching til I saw it, myself. I loved it as a standalone movie and thought the family dynamic was powerful. Sobbed for several scenes and by the end I just wanted to hug my mommy. Keyface crawling towards her was super creepy but otherwise I agree the rest of the scares were jump scares. A few cheesy lines here and there but I still loved it so much I'm gonna see it again next week. I got a bit lost in the previous chapters so if someone could do me the favor of telling me if the end set up for a new chapter or if it closed the loop, that would save me from having to watch them all again. The mom was my favorite character. Did anyone else see Sandra Bullock in her?
Artic Vixen the chapters of the series go in the order of 3,4,1,2. Chapter 2 if you remember left of with a major cliffhanger which insinuated that the monster was gonna be the red face demon. The red face demon was shown at the end of chapter 4 because it was setting up the events of chapter 1. So technically that’s over with but maybe it could also be a hint that chapter 5 might finally continue off where number 2 left off meaning that red face demon is a serious issue that needs to be taken care of. Hopefully that makes sense lol

Honestly, if you had told me that _The Last Key_ was intended to be a pilot for a spin-off _Insidious_ TV show, and that it was instead just released a movie, I'd 100% believe you. It did some really cool filling out of the backstory, and introduced some interesting new characters with Elise's extended family... but it just felt kinda inconsequential.
But if it was a TV pilot that was meant to introduce her nieces as the new leads, it'd actually be a nice way to start off.
Saw it last night. Wasn't bad but wasn't at all scary. Just a few jumpscares. Creepy at best. Not what I was expecting tho. Hate it when you go in thinking your gon be scared shitless and you leave without any of that enjoyment 😭
I like how the prevailing judgement of this movie from several youtube reviewers, seems to be the last phrase uttered by Jeremy. "This is January horror movie that's not complete shit".
Very much agree with this review walked out the cinema think was I actually properly scared at all during this film? I love the Insidious series but didn’t find the one as good as the previous ones.
It was ok. Not really scary, but had a couple good jumpscares. Cool to see an older woman in the main role in a movie mostly for teens.

I've only seen the first Insidious film and I loved it. The whole concept of Astral Projection kinda grounded the horror element to some science reality which worked. Haven't seen the other installments yet, but might be worth looking into.
I've seen most of the insidious movies, but if I have to make a new title for a follow-up movie, it will be either of the following:
Insidious: Paranormal Hell
Insidious: The Conjuring Chronicles
Insidious: Skull and Bones
I have not seen this most recent film in the series so I'm not sure if I'm wrong with what I'm about to say.... I am very surprised that the film makers did not branch off with the red and black faced creature from the first film. That was a freaky looking thing and could start a series of movies in the vein of Krueger, Pinhead etc..etc...

in insidious 2 at the end Elise's ghost goes a house and sees something I want to know when are they going to complete that story I have been waiting 4 years to find out then boom insidious 3 then now boom insidious 4 which has nothing to do with the end of part 2

Jasurian Moodley chapter 4 ending kind of hints at the red face demon from the first one and is also the demon she hears at the end of the chapter 2 so maybe that’s a hint that chapter 5 will definitely continue where chapter 2 left off

He was my favorite monster in this franchise and the REFUSE to bring him back. They teased him HARD at the end of 2 and I would like to see ghost granny have to fight or struggle against him in the sequel, but we got an entirely different movie instead. I am aggravated to say the least.

I loved the story of her family and background about "Anna". I agree with you this chapter 4 wasn't merge with horror very well and I assumed that the last key will explain me about lipstick-face demon but no LOL
You can hate on jumpscares all you want but if jumpscares didn't exist you would never be scared because it's the anticipation of a jumpscare that's making you feel on edge.
I saw this movie last night and I'm in love with the Insidious franchise however this movie wasn't scary at all there were a few pop out scares but there wasn't anything haunting about this movie. There was one scene in the trailer I was looking forward to and it never happened in the movie so I'm not sure if they cut it out last minute but it pissed me off that they would put it in the trailer but not show it in the movie this movie is not worth seeing in theaters and that's coming from a big Insidious fan I was very disappointed... more of a background story of the main protagonist which is cool but still have some scary elements
What I didn't liked bout the "movie" is that the "spooky theme" was not included when the "title" of the "film" appeared.
Mad-Max: Fury Road, Thunderball, & Harry Potter & The Goblet Of Fire are great fourth installments.
Definitely should review the Creep movies, both are on Netflix and both are surprisingly good recent horror movies. The 1st came out a few years ago but the 2nd just came out and was as good if not better than 1. Found footage but done right. I hope you review them!
I’m definitely an Insidious super fan. Loved them, thought the first was the exactly what the horror genre needed. That being said, I was so so disappointed with this movie. Had such high hopes and was crushed. I should have seen this coming based solely on the ad campaign. Every single scary or thrilling moment was seen before I saw the movie. Those are my thoughts.

Stuckmann said the exact opposite thing about this movie, that the first 3rd to half of the movie was really good and hooked him and the last half kind of fell flat and you said the first half dragged and last half brought it together. Maybe that means there's good parts in both and I'll like both halves or it could go the other way and I hate both, hope it's the former because I like this series.
I don't really consider Insidious a trilogy though, more like a duology. The first two are related, but "Chapter 3" is a prequel and completely unrelated to the other movies, just like this one.

I gotta say, the marketing for this movie suuuuuucked. Like, they were REALLY banking on this whole "key fingers" thing to be scary, but it wasn't scary the first time they showed it in the trailer, so it wasn't scary the other 97,000 times they plastered it all over the marketing material
