I Had the honor of Meeting THE CAPTAIN , at SPORTSWORLD In Everett Mass. Back in the day. I was late getting there and I walked in the store and it ended up being Me , The Captain and Phil Castagnetti , the owner of the store. Phil introduced us and I’ll never forget Lou Putting his hand out and saying ( in that voice of his ) hey , how ya doin SMITTY ! ? He autographed everything I brought. Don’t forget he was the Manager of NRBQ , he signed there album for me. I’m guessing the only one in existence. Thanks Captain !!!
Lou Albano was the best on the mike, along with Fred Blassie and the Grand Wizard (Ernie Roth) RIP, Wrestling is dead ! .These men are severely missed.
Your typical Lou Albano "WTF?" moment. This is what made Lou so entertaining as a manager/mouthpiece - you quite simply had no idea what Lou was going to say next, and just as often Albano had no idea himself. He winged all his promos, and he was one of the greatest managers of all time (along with Bobby Heenan and the late Ernie ("Grand Wizard of Wrestling") Roth. Those three set the standard for all those who followed.
As someone who adores Lou Albano from watching him on the Super Show during my earliest years, I would also add Percy Pringle III/Paul Bearer to this list.
In 4th grade we were frequently given a writing assignment. The teacher gave us lots of flexibility on the topic. He just wanted us to write, period. So I wrote a 3 paragraph essay on why I thought the Samoans were gonna beat Ivan Putski and Pat Patterson. Essentially every word of my essay was taken from Lou's promo. "Putski and Patterson don't have the congenuity that it takes to function as a team. And Ivan Putski has the intelligence of a dehydrated BB!!" When I got my paper back the teacher said that 'congenuity' is not a word. And that it wasn't nice of me to say that someone has the intelligence of a dehydrated BB.
It was great when McIdiot used to kick the wrestlers with his foot to let them know the interview was over and one day Albano turned around and asked "why are you kicking me?, What's wrong with you?"
Vince Mcmannequin, was much better as the intreviewer and play-by-play guy. When he started getting into the storylines, beyond an occasional chair across the back, he lost me.
I remember an interview with Lou and George Steel regarding and upcoming title bout between Backlund and Steel. It went something like this: Lou: George! George: Lou: George!! Tell ‘em what you’re going to do to Bob Backlund! George: AYYYYE! Lou: Hurt Bob Backlund! George: Ayyyye! Lou: Hurt Bob Backlund! George: AYYYYYYYE!! Lou: Hurt Bob Backlund!! George: AYYYYYYYYYYE!!!! Lou: [walks away laughing taking his protege with him]
@Astraldragon1 Dusty made appearances in the WWWf for many years - especially in the 70's. Sort of like Andre. He came in, did some TV spots, worked some big shows and then went elsewhere. It was a common (and now sorelt missed) aspect of wrestling then when stars would pop in on territories, make some noise and leave. NWA was great at it. WWE now sucks at it.
Capt Lou Albano was fantastic so many ppl copied him including Steve Austin you don't believe me go back and watch about ten of capt Lou's interviews you'll see
Lou was the only manager that brought so much "Heat " outside the ring that one night he got chased into a bar by fans who wanted to kill him and they destroyed the joint. I think McMahon had to pay like 50k in damages lol
WWE today is a bore compared to this era. Lou was awesome. There was also an incident at MSG where Lou and Mcmahon threw water at each other. Lou knew how to get the crowd going. They got rid of managers. Mcmahon as the boss is nowhere near as good as Mcmahon the announcer. Back then I couldnt wait till Saturday came to catch WWF on Saturday nights. Now I can narely watch it.
That’s exactly the problem with the WWE. McMahon’s insistence that everything be scripted has destroyed the spontaneity and zaniness that the sport thrives on.
“Stand up when I talk, you look too short the other way!” Brilliant.
The best cross-examination delivered in the history of American Jurisprudence.
🤣 goddamn right
well-commented, sir
WELL SAID
Captain Lou was simply the best. RIP
Love Capt Lou....could listen to his interviews with Vince all day. Great stuff...hilarious stuff.

Albano was legit nuts look at vinces face
I would have loved to have seen Albano do this type of promo on Tuesday Night Titans when he was on the outs with Cyndi Lauper in 1984.
Captain Lou the grand wizard Fred blassie Superstar Billy Graham American Dream Dusty Rhodes handle the mic
I didn't know Dusty Rhodes was in WWWF, when Vince SR ran WWF. I thought he only came to WWF in the late 80's.
He would come in for a show Herr or therr usually at MSG maybe a shea show too but I don't recall

Couldn’t do that to Vince now or he will say your fired Lou. He did fire him anyway back in the 80s
joseph costello fired him about six times lol
Captain Lou mite b the greatest most entertaining manager 😂 of ALL time !!😊
That’s how you sell tickets
Took Lou less than one minute to sell an audience on buying tickets. THAT.....
is a promo 👌.
