On the grain mill question, I just replaced an old Nutrimill Classic with a Komo Mio, and I have to say that I love it so much more. The Nutrimmill was a bit of a process to get out and use, so I ground an entire can of wheat at a time and stored the flour. Now I grind what I need, and with the convenience and reduced storage needs I'm branching into other whole grains. So spendy, absolutely! But worth every penny I saved up for it.

My husband and I did 1week Las Vegas and 1 week Hawaii in 2012. It cost us £5000 from the moment we left home to the moment we got back. I am still proud of that.
Lost my Husband last year but we had 59 holidays together over 35 years. We did all we could just incase.

As a mother of triplets I can tell you that most of the time financially it’s really just like having 3 kids with the exception of braces and college. We survived $18,000 in braces in one year with lots and lots of creative saving and we are about to send them to college… deep breath!

The road to Hana is freakin AWESOME! Even if you just drive it. But you can for sure look up some stops. Go in the rain if you can.. WAY less people and it was warm and delightful. Wear bathing suits so there's no fussy changing. You can wear clothing over, but make it light and layered. Hats with attached ties in case there are winds.. there'll be winds!

Maui is my favorite island! Drive the road to Hana yourself. That way you can stop when needed. Get a really early start! Have Ginger chews and peppermints. Drive slow. It’s so beautiful!
Also- get the book Maui for Dummies. Great info!
Snorkeling right off the beach at the Fairmont- on point!!!!
    Have so much fun!!!

Being a single mom to 3 teenage boys is too hard on me. My husband was severely injured on the job by taking a really nasty fall and he hit his head. He had to have emergency brain surgery on 6/24/22 and he is now in rehab in Paramount Ca. He can’t walk, talk, eat, dress himself, take care of himself and he can’t come home. I have been alone for 9 months and sometimes I go to bed crying.

Loved visiting Maui! Took family on pineapple plantation tour and it was great - think it was Maui Gold? Best pineapple we ever tasted. Cost was about $75 per person but we kept checking until found them $20 off, so $55 per person when purchased in advance. Tour including going out in fields and eating as much pineapple as you could as they sliced it in fields AND each person received a boxed pineapple suitable for airline travel home. We continue to buy the pineapples shipped here for Christmas gifts too. Costco near airport is great but expect higher prices on everything.

Message for the DIY Surfer: Once you paddle out past the break, watch for smaller swells and just sit on your board and let them go by. After one or two, lie down and try to get up to speed as they approach. If your board nosedives, you were too far forward. If it passes, you were either too far back or didn't paddle fast enough. Teaching yourself can be done, but you have to be willing to get bonked on the head a few times and feel the thrill of it the first time you actually ride a wave (usually straight in toward the beach.) Go for it!!!

Braces shop around. We had one ortho tell us 8500 for my son and another tell us 6000. Biiiiig diff!!!
Also if you can wait. Kids mouths grow. We waited for my son till he was 16 instead of 13. He was going to need this massive set of braces at 13 but simple ones at 15. Wouldn’t have got them but his tooth was grinding against that tooth. Remember they ARE A BUSINESS!!!
Ask if they do family discounts. Make sure the quote covers the entire set of braces. Sometimes the quote doesn’t cover the removal of the braces, etc.

Pausing the video to say thank you for talking about balancing saving and actually living. I'm 34, hubby is 37. We have 8 kids, oldest just turned 18. We live about $10k/year under the poverty level for our family size. We have worked really hard and are 100% debt free including the house. Now, we're starting to enjoy life a little bit. We're taking a vacation this year plus taking our oldest on a "senior trip" (he's home schooled) with just me, hubby, and him. Traveling even on a budget isn't cheap and it's so hard for me to spend money after saving so strictly for my entire life. I really needed the reminder that balance is a good thing. And I keep repeating to myself, "this is why we're frugal."

Make sure you have a place for Hailey to come home to. 🥰 It is so hard when your kids start leaving. 😢

I’ll watch a fitness video over a dollar tree ANY DAY. I’d love some more fitness content if you’re willing!

You can totally do the road to Hana by yourselves. Ignore the rental car company warnings. There's only like 1/2 mile unpaved and that is gravel. It's fine. If there is a pull off with people selling stuff about half way, STOP. They are amazing people and so kind. Buy the stuff from them. I still have my woven basket 22 years later. It's the best vacation.

I literally applauded you when you spoke about motivation. I've learned that I don't have to like a thing in order to do it. I just gotta DO IT. BTW my dog came running when I clapped. Thank you!

Maui Revealed book! You can buy a used copy for pretty cheap too. We lived by it and did Maui so cheap and so fun.

I am laughing so hard at myself...when you were on your bike I thought you were wearing your suit backwards and I am CHONKY so I would stick out on both sides of that and look like a SPAGHETTI SPOON😂😂😂😂😂

My husband and I were able to retire at 55 thanks to some good planning and a small inheritance. We know too many people who kept working and then never got to enjoy retirement. It has been 15 years and we are still enjoying ourselves and our family. If you can afford to retire don't put it off.

    1. Books. Steve Berry ‘s Cotton Malone series, only one so far that I felt was a miss. Teaser, it wasn’t the first so give them a try.
    2. Haley’s Room. Totally impressed by her answer of considering it a waste to not used. That young woman has her head screwed on straight.
    3. Losing friend’s. I agree totally. Early in my improving financial journey, I had a job with lots of down time, several of us were friends and talked about everything, including money. I quickly learned to only discuss money with those that had what I considered to be good money habits. I remained friends with all, but I only talked money with those that re enforced my better habits. Now, that I am retired and comfortable with my life and decisions I would talk money with all. But early in my journey, I wanted the re enforcement of only good choices.
